It is necessary to have social skills. In today’s society, the number of phone calls people make has declined the last 5 years. While texting has many good uses such as a way to quickly communicate and spread information, it takes away from the human interaction you get from a face to face conversation and even a phone call. Today you see way too many fatal deaths from texting and driving just because someone could not wait five minutes. Texting has led to more forms of bulling, because now that you can screen shot a message, something you say can be taken and never deleted. I can say from personal experience that the majority or people who say mean things over text would never say it in person or on the phone and in most cases act completely different that who they seemed to be over text. Most of those who use cell phones also use the SMS text messaging that these phones feature. This study takes a look at some of the effects and potential problems arising from the use of this text messaging. A survey of students and instructors at Lane Community College found that 70% of those surveyed believed that texting had harmful effects on students writing skills. However, studies that were analyzed found that texting is actually beneficial.
