Gifts

Gift is defined as the transfer of something from a one to another person without the expectation of a payment from the receiver. The idea of gifts is to make others happier or to erase sadness from their face. This essay will include the reasons of giving a gift, the anniversaries that’s required a gift and how I felt about a gift that I received.

First, gifts are a wonderful thing. It makes relationships get fonder and ease the pain. Gifts could be given for forgiveness or a way to show kindness. Also, it motivates people to achieve their goals if they were promised to receive a present due to their efforts. As an example, my dad used to motivate us to focus on school and do our best to achieve high grades. He knew that if he promised us with something that we want to have eagerly, the result by then will be success for both of us.

Second, I have grown up in a family that appreciates the meaning of gifts. There are many anniversaries that`s required a gift. For example, my sister has got married, I bought for her a beautiful necklace and then she got pregnant and gave birth to a little angel, so I gave her a little lovely dress for her daughter to show how much am happy to be an uncle. Also, graduation from high school is a huge thing towards a one future. Therefore, every person graduate from high school, his family blows a nice party for him and he receives a lot of nice gifts from the people who loves him. My dad got me the best gift ever, it was a car.

Third, by the age of 18, a guy dream is to have a nice car. Therefore, I spent a lot of time in the last year of high school to make good grades. Finally, the year has been over and I got my certificate with great GPA and got my dream car that I was promised to have from my dad. But the greatest gift I have been given is certificate that will help make more progress in my future.

Finally, gifts are a clever way to show how much you appreciate friends and family members. It could be given in a lot of anniversaries to add a flavor of forgiveness or kindness. Gifts could be a great element of motivating people to do the work they need to do. A one could also give himself gifts by focusing on the things that make his future brighter.

In Matter of Ferrara, 7 N.Y.3d 244 (N.Y. 2006), the New York appellate court stated that an attorney in fact could make “gifts to the principal's spouse, children, and more remote descendants, and parents, not to exceed in the aggregate $ 10,000 to each of such persons in any year.” However, Matter of Ferrara also states that “such gifts may not exceed $ 10,000 unless the statutory short form power of attorney contains additional language…such gifts may not exceed $ 10,000 unless the statutory short form power of attorney contains additional language.” The case also went on to say that the gift-giving authority means that “the principal authorizes the agent to make gifts either outright or to a trust for the sole benefit of one or more of the specified persons only for purposes which the agent reasonably deems to be in the best interest of the principal, specifically including minimization of income, estate, inheritance, generation-skipping transfer, or gift taxes.” In In re Estate of Rice, 8 Misc. 3d 1001A (N.Y. Business Ethics Decision

...However, nothing in life is free. Although the sales rep said the trip would be a way of building a relationship, I think the sales rep would expect me to choose his company. I would not only feel guilty, but also unethical taking the vacation knowing that I would not choose Computer-Whiz, as they are not the best option for Zircon. The best solution I believe is to not accept the offer and to objectively choose the supplier that has the best technology for the lowest price. By choosing the supplier with the best technology for the lowest price, it would set up our company up for long-term success. If you choose a company that is cheaper, but does not have the best technology at this point, you are going to have to upgrade the technology sooner rather than later, thus costing the company more in the long run. While choosing the company with the best technology, you will not have to upgrade the computing facility for a longer period of time. I would also not want to risk my boss knowing that I took an offer. He could look at the offer as a reason I decided to to pick Computer-Whiz, even though I know that it would ultimately not influence my decision. By picking the best supplier, hopefully Zircon would recognize the success of the decision, and therefore they would reward me with a bonus or a raise down the line, for which I could then go on my own vacation with a clear conscience that it was...

Spiritual Gifts

...Sherri L Hull CHMN 201-D05 04/07/2014 Spiritual Gifts Paper Part One: What are my top 2 spiritual gift? Do I agree with the results? Why or Why not? The top two spiritual gifts from my assessment were Administration and Teaching, with Pastor/Shepherd receiving the same assessment score. Based on my background in Purchasing and Job Costing, I would have to agree with the Administration score; however, Teaching and Pastor/Shepherd has me somewhat confused. The descriptions of each of these, and how they appear to go hand-in-hand does; however, make sense. According to the assessment descriptions, if a person scores high in Teaching but not in Pastor/Shepherding they probably would not make a good Sunday school teacher; therefore, receiving the same score arouses my curiosity what does God see something in me, that I do not. My position as a job costing supervisor has taught me to account for each material being used in the manufacturing industry. Along with my former purchasing responsibilities, both positions back up the assessment score in Administration. The assessment further defines my score in Teaching/Shepherding, as a person who enjoys research. At times this person can be technical. This would represent the details of any given work or research being done, everything needs an explanation. It also defines the person as one who needs to be accommodating when deadlines near and pressure increases. This skillset may become beneficial to the calling I believe...

I have to believe that until we are saved and in a relationship with the Lord that we don’t fully Understand our gifts. For example, I was raised in the Episcopal Church were we were christened and Confirmed into the church. We didn’t speak much about relationship. I thought that if God wanted me To know something, he would tell the Reverend and he would tell me. After being saved and developing a relationship with God, I started noticing how I felt about certain Things. Also I was drawn to certain areas of service in my church rather than others. My top two gifts are evangelism and showing mercy. I agree with both these results completely. When God called me back to school so I could help others I was somewhat surprised. I truly believe I could be On a street corner yelling about the Lord. Of course I have done it more subtle than yelling. Perhaps, Free coffee and donuts on a cold morning downtown. My second highest gift is showing mercy. This is also an accurate gift. My heart is for the lost, the Broken the ones that feel forgotten. God many times in the Bible showed mercy to his followers and Others. He chose to trust the untrustworthy and hangout with thieves, liars and murders. Are we Suppose to believe he would not want us to welcome everyone? So this also...

The Gift of the Magi

...“The Gift of the Magi” (1906) remains one of the most recognizable and frequently anthologized stories in American literature. In its time the tale was extremely popular, both commercially and critically, and O. Henry was called the “Yankee Maupaussant.” Today the story is considered juvenilia and has not garnered much serious critical attention. “The Gift of the Magi” initially appeared in one of O. Henry's best-known collection of stories, The Four Million, which was published in 1906. Plot and Major Characters On Christmas Eve, a young married woman named Della has cut and sold her long, beautiful hair to earn the rest of the money she needs for her husband's Christmas present: a platinum chain for his treasured watch. When her husband, Jim, returns to their apartment, he is shocked to see her hair gone; he has sold his watch to buy her a pair of tortoise-shell combs for her long hair. Touched by his thoughtfulness, Della assures him that her hair will grow back and she gives him the watch chain. When he sees the gift, he lovingly tells her that he has sold his cherished watch to buy her the combs for her hair. The story concludes with an omniscient narrator praising the sacrifice and love of the young couple. Major Themes Critics have noted the irony of the young couple sacrificing their most treasured possessions—Della's hair and Jim's watch—in order to buy each other gifts related to those same possessions. Poverty is also a prominent theme, as Della saved her...

Literary Analysis

...of a story, as well as how the reader interprets it. The short story, “The Gift of The Magi”, there are several literary elements included in the story that would affect the theme. The overall theme of this particular short story is love. “…Mr. James Dillingham Young came home and reached his flat above he was called "Jim" and greatly hugged by Mrs. James Dillingham Young, already introduced to you as Della. Which is all very good…” (Clugston, 2010). The couple loved each other so much, that the two of them always had the best interest of the other at heart. They would nearly do anything for the other, if able. The symbolism shown in this particular story shows that because they loved each other so greatly, and even with their living conditions not being at best, they still sacrificed the little things that they thought to be so precious to them, just so they could both purchase gifts for the other during the holidays. “…Now, there were two possessions of the James Dillingham Youngs, in which they both took a mighty pride. One was Jim's gold watch that had been his father's and his grandfather's. The other was Della's hair…” (Clugston, 2010). The wife in this story loved her husband so much, that she cut her hair and sold it, only for the ability to purchase him a gift. The husband in the story sacrificed his gold watch, which was his prized possession, so that he could purchase his wife a gift as well. The symbolism described, simply shows that because of the love the...

Gift Giving

...Gift Giving The human service field is a field of helping. When people are helping people, it is natural and in some cultural cases, required to offer gifts of appreciation. There are many fine lines that divide the boundaries of gift giving within the helping industry. The value of the gift must be considered, the policies of the agency that a helper is employed by as well as the expectations that could potentially be attached to that gift. Some agencies have policies that avoid this dilemma all together and state absolutely no gifts will be given or received from clients. Other agencies will state that in order to avoid any insults or culture disrespect, a helper is allowed to receive a gift and ensure the client that the agency thanks them and the gift will be shared with the staff. Gifts from clients can have many or no strings attached. Some gifts come genuinely from the heart and are simply a cultural way of thanking someone for their help. Other clients however could have an ulterior motive behind the gift and consider the acceptance of the gift from the helper an indication that their relationship just took a step in a different direction. Whether or not a helper has permission to accept a gift, they must have the knowledge and capability to identify the boundaries of each client and the gift. In the revised version of the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, it states in section A.10.f. “Counselors understand the challenges of accepting gifts from clients...

A Complaint Is a Gift

...Introduction A Gift is a Complaint is a book that will challenge you to rethink complaints, complainers, and your approach on handling, what is a usually, an unpleasant situation. Complaints, as stated in the book, are ”statements about expectations that have not been met. They are also, and perhaps more importantly, opportunities for an organization to reconnect with customers by fixing a service or product breakdown,” (Moller & Barlow, 2008, p. 22). The surface message of the customer doing the complaining often comes across as abrasive and as an attack, but really the customer is willingly giving the company an opportunity to respond and fix the problem, or more appropriately put, giving the company the gift of a second chance. The authors of the book have redefined complaints as gifts, but to do so those receiving the complaint must learn to separate the gift from the medium, the complaint from the complainer. Being able to separate yourself from the emotion of being blamed is most important to being able to successfully handle all complaints. In other words, we need to stop taking things so personally and learn to portray confidence and consideration. This means gaining empathy for the disappointed and frustrated customer, all a while moving forward as a company. The very fact that the person is showing interest in the product/service and making an effort to complain signifies some form of commitment to the company. A Complaint Is a Gift reverses the traditional...

The fun about winning one of those gifts is that it’s not something that you expected, for example, a tissue box or maybe even a candle because it can be random.
