In Toni Morrison’s the novel “The Bluest Eye”, it provided a comprehensive understanding of how whiteness is the preferred beauty standards, which misleads the lives of African American women and children. Morrison is a master at examining the relationships between the races and genders. She also talks about the struggle between civilization and nature, despite the fact that if it is myth. It is complicated for the African Americans to own homes because they are African Americans. During that time in society, if African American family own a home shows then it shows they have value and getting established in society. In the 1940s, it was very uncommon for African Americans to have status in society. When African Americans owned a home, they felt superior to the other African American families. For example, the Breedlove had an abandoned storefront as their home and it shows that they have the bottommost sense of self-worth. The two African American families are the Breedlove and the Peals. The Breedlove is not financially stable and represent an oppressed African American family. The parents of Breedlove family are Pauline and Cholly. Cholly was left by his mother as child in the trash which caused him to be damaged and violent man. Pauline thinks that she is ugly because of her disabled foot. Cholly and Pauline are broken, angry and self-hated that caused it to be transferred that their children. Pecola shows that she has strong hatred about being black because she was inspired by her mother, Pauline. Pecola got raped by her father, Cholly Breedlove which symbolizes how family dynamic has the absences of family worth and morals.
