The Case of the Software Proposal

After hearing about an expert system that analyzed an application and said to write it at substandard when the company's best underwriter had decided it was standard, Chief information officer, Dennis Devereaux, and vice president of information systems planning, Max Vargo, are about to request $1 million to develop an expert system for Linda Peterson's property and casualty (P & C) underwriting department.

They've discussed the expert system with President Bill Hayes, CFO Hal Atkins, and other members of the capital expense committee and for the most part felt it would be approved, however some members of the CEC, including Bill Hayes, are leaning against the expert system project.

After much discussion, it boiled down to putting together some fancy slides of the data to show how expert systems make fewer mistakes than human experts and how much time it takes to process an application with and without the system.

The expert systems proposal is intended to make a fundamental change in the way the company does business, but it is being presented and judged as an information technology project. Only the line organizations can justify investing in the expert systems proposal by projecting improvements in their operating performance, and they do not appear to be partners in the proposal.

The mere thought of Integrating the various expert system into existing databases and other systems will be problematic, and agents will face chaos rather than a single interface when they are trying to give customers quotes.

He is convinced that the patch that was applied to remedy the specific tests in the simulation did not address the underlying problem. But, when George brings his concerns to his superiors, they assure him that the problem has been resolved. They further inform George that any major redesign effort would introduce unacceptable delays, resulting in costly penalties to the company. There is a great deal of pressure on George to sign off on the system and to allow it to be flight tested. It has even been hinted that, if he persists in delaying the system, he will be fired. Nutrition Day-Project Proposal & Plan

...Team 4 - Your Way to have a Nutritious Day Project Proposal and Plan 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction Everyone wants to grow high and achieve more, along with fulfilling their dreams and responsibilities. For achieving a dream or fulfill our responsibilities we should be planned, have resources and over the top we should possess Good Health. Here comes the Motto of our project How to be healthy ? In today’s fast-paced life, where people are busy in achieving targets take less care to our food habitat which adversely affect our health.we tend to eat food that is readily available and food that can be prepared quickly. For example, we have pizzas, french fries, and other eateries whose products are harmful to our long-term wellness. Most of us don't think about the state of our health until we're sick, but being mindful of small choices and paying attention to the way you feel can help optimize your health. Healthy living is more than simple daily habits – it's a lifestyle. There are variations to any single individual’s weekly/monthly/yearly income, and so they must budget their moneys accordingly in...

They conduct a cost-benefit analysis and examine available products and services only after they ensure that a project will meet business requirements. If the project does not directly support the business, it is not pursued. The Bank of Boston had a goal: improve sale and customer service and increase the range of products, such as mutual funds and small business loans, in the bank’s branches. Given their resources and availability resources, they found that it would be more cost effective to outsource much of the work. So they developed two comprehensive requests for proposal (RFPs). The first was for procurement, and installation of the system. The second was for support and maintenance. There were 11 responses to the two RFPs, which were reviewed by more than twenty of various technology and business committees within the bank. IBM and Anderson Consulting were chosen to help with the procurement, deployment, and installation, and IBM was chosen to help with the support and maintenance. The Bank of Boston Branches will be getting a complete facelift: new client/server-based local area net works, new customer service and sales applications software, electronic mail, and remote software distribution, as well as automated data backup and recovery...
