Camacho Vera United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 65 The Wounded Warrior Leadership Challenges One of the most challenging assignments that I have experienced was working as a First Sergeant at a Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) at Fort Hood. The central mission for the Wounded Warrior Unit is to heal, recover, and reintegration Soldiers back to the Force or back to the civilian communities as Veterans. Placement in the unit can be rewarding, but at the same time it comes with great challenges. The health and welfare of soldiers placed under the commanders authority is the units First Sergeant responsibility. One question to be asked when taking over responsibility would be how am I going to fulfill those responsibilities without the proper training and knowledge to identify the individual needs of a Wounded Warrior? Due to the absence of training, and knowledge on how to identify the needs of a Wounded Warrior a First Sergeant must learn and understand the Triad of Care and the Triad of Leadership techniques, followed by learning how to deal with other challenges that may present itself while on assignment. Triad of Care First and foremost the Triad of Care element of the Warrior Transition Program is the foundation of knowing the needs of a Wounded Warrior. Leadership Challenges

...There are many challenges and frustrations facing leaders today that are internal or external. These can include not having enough authority to carry out responsibility and being perceived as unethical by others outside the company. Internally, there are times when people in managerial positions have continuous issues with being blamed or held responsible for things that they have little or no control over. There are times when they have an ill-performing team member and they don’t have the power to discipline them or let them go. There are also times when they “might be expected to produce high-quality service with too small a staff and no authority to become fully staffed” ( Dubrin, A., 2007). This can lead to frustrations and a decrease in the drive to perform at top capacity. In response to this obstacle, leaders can develop different training modules for those that follow them to improve their output. Externally, a challenge that many corporate leaders face is that they are seen as unethical individuals or focusing only on making money. “The many corporate financial scandals made public in recent years have led to extreme perceptions that CEOs, in particular, are dishonest, unethical, and almost criminal in their behavior” (Dubrin, A., 2007). This stereotype makes it difficult to be viewed as leaders who care about their customers, employees, and their environment. A good way to overcome this challenge would be to get more involved in the community so they...

The Challenge of Leadership Development

...Point of view What the future demands: The growing challenge of global leadership development B What the future demands: The growing challenge of global leadership development Companies worldwide seem to be seized by a new enthusiasm for innovation and growth after a sobering period of retrenchment and downsizings. Fast-moving technologies, rapid global expansion, shifting business models, mergers and acquisitions all hold out dazzling possibilities. But in order to capitalize on these opportunities, corporate leaders are confronting a serious need for new kinds of talent and leadership. One has the sense that CEOs all over the world are emerging from strategy sessions and turning to their HR leaders with the same questions: How will we get our company from here to there? And do we have the leadership to make that transition? Among the outstanding questions for HR executives: ■ How fast must we be prepared for change throughout the organization and change at the top? What leadership skills are required for the future? Leadership Challenges and Opportunities

...Leadership Challenges and Opportunities Rita Ludeman Grand Canyon University PSC-410 February 23, 2014 Companies today face a number of issues or challenges that can have drastic effects on the company if not handled correctly. Two of the issues are; finding the right staff and keeping up with the changing regulatory environment. According to Conner (2013) one of the biggest challenges faced by organizations today is, “finding the right staff, retaining them, and ensuring they buy into the vision of the organization” (Finding the right staff). The key is to figure out how to deal with individual personalities, what motivates each employee, and develop the management accordingly. The other problem is the changing regulations regarding environment. According to Conner (2013), “the problems to be solved are to understand the meaning of regulation in your industry, its implications for your business, and to develop the skills necessary to deal with it. Two key areas are taxes and health care” (Regulation). The hiring process within an organization is one of the most important tasks to be fulfilled. The difference between good employees and great employees can make a huge difference in the effectiveness of the company. Great employees possess a habit of success and find ways of completing their jobs where good employees see an obstacle as a dead end. Competency is a must for a great employee. Leadership Challenges to Change

...5. LEADERSHIP CHALLENGES TO CHANGE Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to • Relate carefully to the soft issues that affect individuals who are faced with change • Suggest and evaluate methods to overcome the high resistance to change • Steer and identify methods for working with teams on change initiatives. 5.1 INDIVIDUAL RESPONSES TO CHANGE During times of significant change to organizations in strategies and structures, employees can experience high levels of stress as their jobs, areas of responsibility and roles also change. Yet research is curiously silent about how people react to organizational change, especially towards promoting healthy responses to change. Prior to the implementation of these strategies, however, organizations must empower employees to adopt the role of change agent and encourage them to take action to solve the problems that stress them. At the individual level, employees can respond to the stress created by organizational change by using problem- and emotion-focused strategies. Also important in coping with change are the personal resources of employees, including a sense of hardiness, beliefs about having control over their work environment, and the availability of social supports within and outside the organization. Although few organizations fully acknowledge their role in helping employees cope with change, there are a number of initiatives that organizations can pursue.- http://www.informaworld.com ...

Cio Challenges – Preparing for It Leadership

...CIO Challenges – Preparing for IT Leadership ITM T 6:00pm-9:30pm SPRING 2012 Date: 03/28/2012 ------------------------------------------------- INTRODUCTION (5 Points) Jim Barton, the former head of Loan Operations, is appointed the new CIO of the IVK Corporation as the new CEO is attempting a turnaround following a period of slowing business performance1. Barton has no IT background and the serious challenges gave him very little time to learn what effective IT management is all about. The story narrated to us three events Barton had experienced in the weekend before he entered the new office. On Friday evening, in the bar, he mysteriously encountered a wise kid who gave him a surprisingly good advice and inspiration by telling him it is important to know what you don’t know. On Sunday morning, during his jogging, Barton met with Bill Davies, the former CIO ad IVK. Bill told Jim that he “won’t last one year” in the job of CIO, which reminded Jim of the harsh truth that he would be judged on his performance, regardless of the lack of experience in the area that was his starting point. On the afternoon of the same day, Barton’s consultant and girlfriend Maggie made a very good suggestion that Barton should arrange meetings with CIOs, analysts, investors, customers, and other IT movers and shakers to help him better understand the role of a CIO. ------------------------------------------------- ISSUES/PROBLEMS (20 Points) * In taking on a new assignment, how can...

Unfortunately, as whole, the Federal Government has been unable to achieve any of the PBSA targeted quotas as set forth by the Office of Management and Budget. BACKGROUND Performance Based Service Acquisition is a procurement method of contracting. It is structured around performance outcomes, objectives and measurable goals. The strategy of PBSA arose as a result of evolving Government practices to align with commercial business practices. PBSA employs a number of techniques, strategies and frameworks for the definition of program requirements, acquisition planning, competition management, performance measurement, contract structure, payment structure, and post-award contract monitoring and management. (“SARA Panel Draft Report,” 2006) In PBSA, the contractor is provided a Performance Work Statement (PWS) or a Statement of Objectives (SOO) in which the Government describes the end result. The contractor is also provided a Quality Assurance Surveillance Program (QASP) which specifies how and when the Government will assess the contractor’s performance of the tasks set forth in the PWS or SOO. Leadership Challenge Ch 3

...I. A major turning point in my life was when I learned how to play tennis. Secondly, I found out later that I could study in the U.S.A. Third turning point was when I completed my first semester in college, and last was when I transferred to another college. I believe the pattern is here is when opportunities and challenges are imposed to me, I took the most of it, overcame it and learned more about myself. With that being said, not only the feeling of having accomplished something, but what you face along the way to accomplish this something as well is what creates meaning for me. As an old quote says “it is not about the destination, it is about the journey”. Likewise, challenges is what makes me move forward. Proving to myself that I can do better and better is what makes me want to keep going. II. For my project, my end goal is self-accomplishment; knowing that I did my best and learned from it. This is important because is what everybody should realize and go for when planning and working in anything. In order to find a common ground so others share the same vision is by inspiring them along the way, be an example of determination and make sure they understand the main goal and what we can get from it if we put our best effort on it. After all is done, I would like to hear how our work have increased their knowledge even a little and how it makes them feel better about themselves. I also would like to hear if their visions have changed while working on the project...
