The day I got to skip school

It was a cool Tuesday morning when the sun peaked through my window at 6:30 A.M. I woke up frightened thinking I was late for school, knowing I have a final exam first hour. I was a normal senior with the thought of graduating on my mind, and nothing else. Waking up late became part of my schedule once the second semester of school started. I became used to rushing and making it in the class with a couple seconds to spare. I hopped up out of bed and headed for the shower. Cold showers were becoming a normal thing because if I let the shower warm up, by that time I would be late. By this time my mom is in my room wondering why I wasn’t out the door. I then get out of the shower and let my mom know I’m running late. She then realizes I need to eat and makes me some food to eat on the way. But that day was different, that was the day she got sic of making me food and rushing because I was always late. Knowing I had an exam first hour meant if I didn’t show up before the bell had rung I would fail and I would not graduate. This made me fear being late, and at the rate I was going, late seemed like a very possible situation. At the time I owned a Cadillac CTS. This was a decently fast car and I liked going fast. I’ve drove anything I could get my hands on from when I was just a little kid. Cars have always been in big interest to me. I knew how to do a lot with cars from drifting in the snow, to speeding around back roads, all the way to blowing cars up for fun also learned to respect what could hurt you, and cars can definitely become dangerous in a snap of a second. The day I learned my biggest lesson was today, Tuesday October 2nd. This was the lesson my parents drilled in my head time after time. They would say, “Respect what can hurt you”. I

They sent me to the school that is very close to my house. So, I can go to school by myself. They didn’t ask any about my school or grade, they even don’t go to any of my back to school night, just because they don’t have time. One day, I was running around at the school with my friend. Then the teacher came up and asked ours to stop it. She said the one of our school rule is cannot run around at the school, need to use walk. Also, she asked me and my friend to buy a...

Reaction Paper

...I agree on most of the suggestions on becoming the consummate gentleman scholar. Like in my highschool years, I wore neat uniforms and brought extra clothing if ever my clothes were spilled or wet, and I was polite to my teachers and staff. Bringing of cellphones was not allowed but I would bring it but I would hide my phone inside my bag for the rest of the day. I also participated in class, focused on the subject and didn't do things that were not related to it, and I didn't skip classes. I really loved to listen to what our teacher would teach us, which was why I didn't skip classes and I recited if I knew the answer. However, there were also things stated in the ekek that I disobeyed, like I would talk to my friends even during quizzes. I arrived at my school at 7:15 a.m. even though I needed to go to school by 7:00 a.m. which is why I almost got a probation due to my tardiness. Sometimes, my teachers caught me yawning and looking sleepy. Also I disagreed on the suggestion, "Don't dominate the discussion or question asking" because it is said that you deny your classmates opportunity to participate. In my own opinion, it's like war in class. If you don't participate, you lose. It will be their fault not answering the questions of the professors because they are shy. It is best to be more confident and participate more for you to understand the lesson well. Some thoughts in this paragraph, "Don't dominate the discussion or question asking.", I strongly agree like don't ask...

Senior Week Analysis

...another when were not so found of one another at some point. The last of being around our favorite teachers. When we were having a bad day, and nothing seemed to be going right, we all had that one teacher to go to. There were no more, “Oh I’ll tell you Monday” when we had a laundry list of gossip to tell. There were not going to be any more of those dreadful Mondays that put an end to our weekends, or skipping school to go to the mall, or skipping class to go to the gym. This was the last year for the Class of 2015 at Crispus Attucks High School. Before we knew it, all we’d have left of high school would be our diplomas and our many memories. That’s why it was so important to make the most of our last week at our historic school on the North-West side of Indianapolis. Everyone has a senior week...

My Life Before Being a Candidate Coast Guard Officer

...I don’t know how to swim. I would like to relate my life to this weakness that I had before that became my strength when I entered the service. Before entering college, during the final interview I was asked “Why do you want to study in UP?” without a doubt, I readily answered “To be able to study in the premier university of the country is my childhood dream and I don’t want it to be just any other dream.” So I got in and I can clearly remember the my first day in UP, I am wearing my best that day because of mom reminded me to always dress as if you’re going to see you worst enemy. I was wearing elephant pants, wedges and a vintage tight fitting top while most of my classmates are just wearing shorts and slippers. It is really a great feeling that I am at my dream university, I really can’t imagine myself graduating from any other school except UP. I took up Bachelor in Sport Science, a pre-medical course because I wanted to pursue medicine at that time. I love science and how the human body works so I worked hard and studied well to become a university scholar each semester. I would skip gimiks and parties because I have a goal and I have to meet those. I am thinking that, I am already here so why not make the most out of it. During my sophomore year, I got invited to join the UP Dragon boat Team, my friends are joining and because of peer pressure I joined. I am not the strongest of the team, but since I wanted to be on the line-up I did not skip any training day. My mom would...

Online Versus Traditional Education

...a chance to go sit in a traditional classroom in order to advance your education? This was the main reason why people did not try to get a college degree, just a decade ago. Now days, there are two types of education, the traditional setting and the online setting. There are many different advantages and disadvantages to both online and traditional education. First, there is the issue of time constraints. Many people have very little free time to which they can devote to an education. One of the disadvantages of traditional education is the time that has to be set aside at a specific time. This makes it really hard if your spouse is at work and you do not have a babysitter. In this case, maybe pursuing an online degree is best for you. It will allow you to attend your classes when it is most convenient for you. Another aspect that people look at when deciding which type of education is the best option for them is location. With today’s gas prices, most people do not want to drive back and forth to school. Therefore, they choose online education. Some people would have to drive a long way to get to a college campus, because they do not live near one. This is when the benefits of online education, being able to be done at home, outweigh the advantages of a traditional education. The third thing I am going to talk about is personal learning style. There are some people out there that learn best with the face-to-face interaction with other students and teachers. This is when...

...the honour to be here on this special event The School Entrepreneurship Day. It is my privilege to stand here and share with you about “Why Breakfast Is The Most Important Meal of The Day?” How many of you want to be healthy? How many of you find it a challenge to eat healthily because you are always running late! When I was a kid, my mom always told me that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. It turns out she was right. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, not just for nutritional benefits, but for mental benefits as well, and there is no excuse not to eat it. You would be shocked at how many people skip their first meal. According to Adirondack Sports and Fitness, nearly one fifth of adults don't eat at all in the morning and many students don't eat breakfast either. Twenty percent of elementary students skip breakfast and sixty percent of students ages between 9 to 15 skip breakfast. A lot of people, especially children, go through the day without having breakfast. Many people believe that it is not necessary, or they say that they are not hungry or don’t have time for that and begin their day with no meal. I believe that everyone especially children should eat breakfast before going to school. The purpose of this talk is to show the importance of breakfast, especially for school children. Studies show that eating breakfast everyday is important in maintaining a healthy body weight. Starting your day with a healthy breakfast will also make you less...

Confession of a Former Drug Addict: Learning the Value of Family

...Confession of a Former Drug Addict: Learning the Value of Family Misguided Youth “Oh now that I think back about it, I was really stupid when I was young and that my mother is really unfortunate to have a son like me!” Kong said as he ended with a short embarrassed laugh while he recounts the past he isn’t exactly proud of in mandarin. Kong, 36 , had spent most of his youth in and out of the drug rehabilitation centre and prison. His parents separated while he was still young and their mother decided to bring him and his younger brother along to move into their grandmother’s place at Ang Mo Kio. Kong was the eldest among the grandchildren left in his grandmother’s care. With his mother busy at work to support the family and his grandmother busy attending the younger kids, the mischievous boy always finds the chance to sneak out of the house. It was then when he got acquainted and started hanging out with the older kids around his neighborhood. These are the friends that very much influenced and helped mold him into a teenage delinquent. “I was encouraged by them to join their gang, to skip school and hang out with them. And it was then when I learn how to shoplift, cutting chain off bicycles to steal, extorting money from other kids and getting into fight for the most minor reason, just for the sake of getting into trouble and seeking thrill out of it.”, Kong explained how he was a wayward boy that followed whatever his peers instigated. “And it felt really good to be part...
