A process is a series of actions taken in order to achieve a particular end. The earth's processes are natural events that take place to finish an end goal. Most of the time, these processes change populations of organisms. A couple of examples would be, weathering, changing climate, and natural disasters. The earth’s processes have changed populations of all living organisms. Weathering is an earth process that changes populations of organisms. “If you have seen rocks that are cracked or split in layers, then you have seen rocks that are undergoing mechanical weathering.” (Science Explorer textbook) Weathering will break down the layers of the rock and change the color which then the organisms that originally camouflaged into don't blend in anymore. These organisms now have to adapt to their surroundings and many of them die off. “If we don’t adapt we die.”(britannica.com) For example, in the making of the fittest worksheet the dark mice didn’t adapt to the tan colored desert and many of them died off. For example, the giant panda is considered an endangered species, at the moment, because their natural food source, bamboo, is declining and they don’t know how to adapt. “The plant's unusual reproductive cycle limits its ability to adapt to climate change. One species studied by the scientists only flowers and reproduces every 30-35 years. Scientist questioned how three dominant bamboo species were likely to fare in the Qinling Mountains as the climate warmed.”(theguardian.com) A huge population of giant pandas live in the Qinling Mountains in China, along with other animals that use bamboo. Giant pandas, specifically are becoming endangered because of the earth’s process, climate change. The bamboo does not thrive when the climate is warming.
