Lots of people complain about breaking their nail or losing a soccer game, but there are people who’ve pulled through much more difficult situations by accepting their flaws, learning to adapt, and being determined. Most people on this planet feel like their flaws are unacceptable and they make them seem terrible, but people like Aimee Mullins have different views of life. Mullins did not like the fact that the people in her life were not accepting of her prosthetic legs and felt like they were a bit unfair to her. She drew the line when her father demanded she changed her dress so that no one would see the legs. Since the dress was “the nicest this she owned”, she took it upon herself to defy her father and went on wearing the dress. I …show more content…
Hamilton- much like Mullins- had lost a limb and could not do things as easily as she used to. The difference between Hamilton and Mullins is that Mullins took her misfortune as an excuse to joke around and be funny, while Hamilton continuously felt sorry for herself to the point where it seemed like she didn’t even want to try any more. It seemed as if all Hamilton wanted to do was wallow in her own self pity. And yet, in the end she was convinced that she could get better. She attempted to surf again and eventually got the hang of it, finding a new sense of balance. She is now an award winning surfer. Finally, the last, and in my opinion one of the most important parts of facing adversity, is being determined, much like how William Kamkwamba was determined to create electricity for his village. Using only blue-gum trees and bicycle parts, Kamkwamba has successfully created windmills to generate power to his entire village. He’d even offered to rebuild a man’s failed windmill attempt, showing how generous and selfless he truly is. He’s even managed to earn enough money for him to finally attend school. In conclusion, not all “problems” are considered problems when compared to situations like these. If these people can pull out, there is no excuse for giving up on any of the menial tasks that we have to do every day. So think twice before you decide to stop
