Today computers are an integral part of everyday life in America. There's hardly anywhere you can go without seeing a computer in use. It has simplified the hard task of everyday life and left more free time. Many people spend that free time playing video games. Video games are a good way of stress relief, a way to get away from the realities of everyday life and into a virtual world. Some will say that video games have lead to kids being more obese because they don't get outside and play. They say that video games contribute to violence, because acts in games are reenacted by individuals. Video games have also lead to addiction like those from drugs and alcohol. Games have done more to benefit society, than harm it. Video game simulations are used in many fields from the military, education, medical, and the science field. What was once just a break from tedious task on the job has now turned into a billion-dollar industry that doesn't have any signs of slowing down. Some of the negatives of gaming are now being overshadowed by the overwhelming positives. With introduction of the Nintendo Wii we now have interactive video game system that requires users to interact with the game. Gamers no longer sit back and play games but now they are required to interact with them. With games becoming a more integral part of everyday life, the real potential and benefits are now becoming realized. Games are being put into use as educational training aids, that making learning fun and seamless. They are blurring the lines between virtual and reality. With an industry with so much potential, where is it headed?
History of videogames The first electronic games were not played at home or even at video arcades. Instead, research departments at universities, labs, military installations and defense

Between Resorts, cruises and just the casinos themselves, there are many positions that need to be filled to keep these establishments running. Gambling Through the Years There is no exact date of when gambling was started. There is record of the Chinese doing it in 2300 B.C (casino-hstory.org). There are also stories of the ancient Greeks, Queen Elizabeth and the Romans gambling in some way as well. A lot of the games that are played in recent times actually have a history of starting in Europe and China. Gaming...

Gaming Graphics

...Evolution of Gaming Graphics Abstract This research was done to demonstrate how gaming graphics have evolved from the 1980s to the present. Third and fourth video game generations involved, “single game creators”. Present day video games have become much more sophisticated and require a “multifaceted production staff for every creative discipline” (Porcino). Graphics, storylines and complexity was researched in minor detail to compare how technology has developed from past, present and future. Creators used the most advanced technology of their time to create a video game for gamers to enjoy. Evolution of Gaming Graphics The evolution of gaming graphics has progressed from the initial creation of gaming consoles, such as Atari and Sega Genesis, to more sophisticated consoles, such as Xbox and PlayStation. Former game generations provided the use of basic colors, shapes and complexity. Present-day game generations provides sprites or characters that display crisp scenes and facial expressions, which lead the gamer to experience an exceptionally realistic gaming atmosphere. Past To understand gaming graphics one must be aware of few terms involving the process. Two dimensional or 2D is a plane of existence moving either vertical or horizontal. Gaming Industry Trends

...as an owner/operator of multi-business units. I am not currently in the casino industry, but I have a very big attraction to the industry as an owner. I want to do more research on the industry and there is no better way than identifying the current trends in the industry. After a lot of research, it has been noted that there are many trends that the casino industry has to keep a look-out for. These trends touch many different areas in the industry, ranging from the changes in the technology, the different types of policies and regulations as well as a shift in demographics and how they have influenced the industry. The first trend I want to identify in the gaming industry is the fact that online gaming is becoming real competition for the traditional brick and mortar casino. Some of the main competitors in the gaming industry that have a brick and mortar casino have also launched websites where people can gamble online. These are people who are catching onto the trends and will be around for the long haul because of it. There are...

...1089/cyber.2012.0034 Online Gaming Addiction? Motives Predict Addictive Play Behavior in Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games 1 Daria J. Kuss, M.Sc., M.A., Jorik Louws, M.Sc.,2 and Reinout W. Wiers, Ph.D. 3 Abstract Recently, there have been growing concerns about excessive online gaming. Playing Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) appears to be particularly problematic, because these games require a high degree of commitment and time investment from the players to the detriment of occupational, social, and other recreational activities and relations. A number of gaming motives have been linked to excessive online gaming in adolescents and young adults. We assessed 175 current MMORPG players and 90 nonplayers using a Web-based questionnaire regarding their gaming behavior, problems as consequences of gaming, and game motivations and tested their statistical associations. Results indicated that (a) MMORPG players are significantly more likely to experience gaming-related problems relative to nonplayers, and that (b) the gaming motivations escapism and mechanics significantly predicted excessive gaming and appeared as stronger predictors than time investment in game. The findings support the necessity of using measures that distinguish between different types of online games. In addition, this study proves useful regarding the current discussion on establishing (online) gaming addiction as a diagnosis in future categorizations of psychopathology...

Social gaming that is playable within a social networking site especially Facebook has exploded the gaming industry as trendsetter in the last decade.Because of that, not only Facebook game's have a lot of gamers, many companies have a lot of users. In consequence, the fast moving gaming companies turned into multi-million powerhouses and at the same time CPA (cost per acquisition) went up and gradually started leveling up with ARPU (average revenue per user). Concurrently social networks especially Facebook became as big as a virtual earth entertaining thousands of millions of people with so many services. ...How does Online/Video Gaming affect its Players and Society? North Carolina State University. “Online gaming augments players’ social lives, study shows.” ScienceDaily. 27 Mar 2014. Web. 21 Jul 2014. The new research shows that online social behavior is not replacing offline social behavior in the gaming community. Instead, online gaming is expanding players’ social lives. This article shows several tracking results to prove this point. “Gamers are not the antisocial basement-dwellers we see in pop culture stereotypes, they’re highly social people,” says Dr. Nick Taylor, an assistant professor of communication at NC State and lead author of a paper on the study. “This won't be a surprise to the gaming community, but it’s worth telling everyone else. Loners are the outliers in gaming, not the norm.” Indeed, in recent years, a lot of players of massively multiplayer role-player games such as War of Warcraft (WOW) took an in-depth survey about their offline social lives. At the same time, researchers tracked the offline behavior of these players. The result showed that most of these players had high social skills both online and offline. It means online gaming do not affect players’ offline social behaviors, however, online gaming can even improve players’ social ability. As a WOW player, I do absolutely understand reasons of this situation. First, massively multiplayer role-player games almost create real social environments to let players talk, drink and chat online....

Case Study: Zynga

...case study highlights the success of Zynga in online games. This forms an excellent basis for assessing the relationship between durable and virtual products. The continuous over- reliance of Zynga on Facebook is also another essential aspect of consideration in paper. Finally, the case study addresses the various implications of Zynga on the existing video game business.  Overview Zynga is among the world’s most popular online gaming firms. The firm has been operational since 2007. During this period, Zynga’s popularity has increased because of its unique approach to online gaming. Whereas most gaming companies produce games with innovative features, Zynga relies on customer analytics (Laudon, 2012). This involves the assessment of trends evident among the gamers. For instance, Zynga analyzes the most popular game features among the users. Facebook forms the platform for more than 90% of Zynga’s games.  Question a: Among the most notable strategies used by Zynga is the development of “durable” and virtual products. From the context of gaming, “durable” products encompass online goods whose lifespan is considerably longer compared to the “nondurables”. The phrase “virtual” comes into application because they are sold and used online. An example of a marketing relationship between the durable and virtual products is the use of sale of virtual real estate property (Hill, 2012).  This approach would attract many users and thus enhance the generation of revenues. The durable...

Future Statement

...Unit 5: Future Statement Problem Solving Theory Mr. Hall By: Zachary Taylor April 13, 2015 What does the future hold? I believe that the future is going to hold much advancement in technology that will continue to change how we live everyday life. Just look at our civilization 100 years ago. At that time the automobile was just starting to become popular. At that time the computer did not exist, and when humanity finally invented it, it was the size of an entire room. Now we can basically carry small computers, called smartphones, right in our pockets. In this paper I will discuss a technology that I believe is going to take over the video gaming industry. There is a misconception on what the first videogame actually was. Most people would when asked would say Pong, Pac-Man, or Asteroids. These games came about in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The first actual videogame, however, was created in 1958 by William Higinbothan, who was a physicist in the employment of the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Since then, like all of the other technology we have, the video game industry has continued to be revolutionized, with new consoles coming out that can perform faster, and with higher graphics than its predecessor. We are at the point where current video games have such high graphics, that they literally look like real life. Now that we have hit that threshold, a big question for many gamers was what is next? Where do we go from here? I believe the answer is Virtual Reality Gaming...

Loving something so much that it gives you the empowerment to go out into the real world and try to make it happen, can give people a sense of hope for a better future. Through McGonigal’s personal research, at the University of California, Berkeley, it has been shown that video games provide some main ingredients for a happy meaningful life by offering the hope of success with strong social connection and a satisfying work environment, with a chance of becoming a part of something bigger. According to an article written by Drea Christopher titled “The negative effect of video game addition”, gamers who spend endless amounts of time gaming may cause relationships with friends and family to suffer. Gamers as tend to argue more about the...

...Introduction The gaming industry is reported to be a concurring next-generation technology that consumers are consciously paying into. The most recent video game release – Grand Theft Auto V – has proven to be an example of this consumer scenario. Video games cost a lot of money to develop and produce and in return, they are expensive to buy. However, the projected sales are almost six times the amount of marketing and developing costs in the first year. Not bad for a gaming system and its supporting technologies when they are close to obsolete in the gaming world. According to the article, “Rockstar Games (TTWO) reportedly spent $150 million on marketing – and the game is expected to make almost six times that much in sales over the course of the first year” (2). This goes to show that the consumers of this new game are not concerned with its shelf life. The consumers are drawn in by the successful marketing strategies the gaming companies use. Grand Theft Auto V is marketed through its advanced hardware that allows the gamer to play in a fictional yet realistic atmosphere. The gamers can take part in a fictional gaming world that replicates real life graphics – such as “convincing daylight.” The plausibility of these gaming systems make the success rate of them high throughout the constant change of processors in the industry. As discussed in chapter one of our text, the gaming industry practices sales orientation (5). The industry is constantly pushing new gaming systems...
