Applying Old Testament Laws Today

by

Derrick Burney
November 6, 2014

Christian and the Old Testament Laws (1) J. Daniel Hays approach is to give a principle factor to the Old Covenant laws which makes them practical for today’s believers. Hay’s believes that the New Covenant takes believers up from under the rules of the Old Covenant Laws (Romans 7:1-6), except when the laws have been restated by Jesus. One of the laws Hays gives from the Old Covenant laws which he use as an principle in today’s practical purpose is “Thou shall not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Hay’s believes when Jesus stated “You have heard the commandment that says, you should not commit adultery”. But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Mathew 5: 27-28 NLT). Hay’s believes since Jesus restated this law in the New Testament that makes it a practical law for today’s purposes.
My understanding of the article is we have to understand the differences between the Old Covenant laws and the New Covenant laws. Believers must understand through Jesus teaching which ones are to be practical for today’s living purposes.

Reconciliation of the Old Testament
(2) When you look at the scripture Jesus states, the Old Testament laws are eternal and will never pass away (Mathew 5:17) and compare it with, believers are no longer under the law stated in (Romans 7:1-6). You may think the bible is contradicting itself, but to put this in proper perspective to get the proper understanding without contradiction you have to look at it from a righteous stand point. Jesus gives the answer that connects the two

As the semester ends I find myself reflecting not only on how I have survived the first semester but also what I have learned. Writing is hard work. There is so much more to it than just writing an interesting story. I also learned another important lesson; just because I worked hard on an essay before presenting it and reviewed the daylights out of it did not mean it was ready for submission. Every time I went back to read it I found new changes, typos and other mistakes I had missed before. Reviewing and revising an essay is an essential part of writing. Reviewing allows me to rewrite and make changes in the essay’s content, organization and sentence structures. It allows me to add, remove, move or substitute words to make sure it communicates effectively the purpose of the essay. The task of reviewing the essays I wrote for this course allowed me to learn...

Different Leadership Style

...A Brief Summary Of The Situation At Vidsoft Management Essay Since going public Vidsoft Technologies has witnessed rapid expansion and revenue growth. Its CEO, Keith Nash, has created and maintains a strong customer-responsive culture. To uphold levels of motivation employees are given a high degree of autonomy over their work. Teamwork is incentivized and promotions come quickly to those who fit the mold. Alaji Babatunde - in his third year of employment and already a senior manager - manages two product lines and eleven staff. Unable to allocate his time effectively, he contemplates introducing a new layer of management to the organization structure. Babatunde identifies one suitable candidate among his staff and settles to look outside the company for the second. With the consensus of James White, Babatunde offers a management position to Jennah Li, a conscientious and admired member of the group. Soon after, Alex Hsu, a young engineer and a direct report of Li, cites irreconcilable differences and requests to be transferred to the group without a manager. Li, concerned that Hsu’s transfer may be seen as a sign of weakness on her part, insists he continue to report to her. How can this situation be best resolved? Babatunde’s first challenge is to understand why the problem manifested itself in the first place. The second is to match his managerial approach to the situation without further negatively impacting the equilibrium of the group. The solution requires a combination...

Enlightenment of Society and the Death Peantly

...capital punishment. It became a tool to help reform individuals instead of punishing them, and capital executions became a private practice. It also evolved from being an arbitrary punishment against minorities, to a consistent and steady punishment for anyone who broke the law, eventually morphing into the punishment system of today. As history has progressed, a complete difference has been seen in regards to the rights of the minorities and the poor in the courts of law. The stark difference in the courts opinion toward minorities can be seen if you compare the way that they were tried during the colonization of Mexico with the way that they were treated in English society after the Enlightenment. As Martinez talks about in her essay, blacks were heavily discriminated against. This social tension carried over into the High Courts of Spanish society, which caused them to be extremely biased against the blacks. The courts bias can be easily observed in the Translated Documents from New Spain, in which the courts, under the façade of a trial, punish a group of blacks simply to make an example of them. The effect of the deterrence was undermined by the fact that these punishments were often inconsistent. These punishments were especially cruel, as Martinez describes when she says, “They were being paraded on horseback, shamed before the residents of the vice-regal capital, before all were summarily hanged in front of a large crowd in the [1]central plaza facing the church...

Farm Girl

...to be hard working, responsible, and humble. I believe her intent is to show that hard work and determination pay off favorably. Early in the essay the writer explains how she could not be involved socially at school because of her chores. Once she was finally allowed to join the basketball team, she learned time management skills because she was still responsible for doing her chores. The author writes about her times in high school as she became even more involved and was eventually elected class president. This shows that hard work and persistence pays off. She balanced a job, social activities, and school work and was still able to achieve many goals. I think the writer of this essay was attempting to be somewhat of a motivation for young girls. In my opinion, her purpose was to show how hard work and dedication payoff well for those that apply themselves. This was written as a reflection of her own life and what has made her who she is today. The audience of this essay spans many generations. Young girls may enjoy reading this to learn from her experience. Someone older may read it as inspiration to not quit because things are too difficult in balancing work, school, and life. An adult may read this and reflect on their own life experiences and what has influenced them to be the person they are today. The tone of the essay is very positive. She feels good about who she is and how she got there. She enjoys...

To avoid total non-representation, characters are, instead, martyred. In many cases, which will be briefly explored in this essay, gay characters are victims of other people. In other cases, which will also be explored in this essay, gay characters experience a slow and torturous victimhood before ultimately taking their own lives or succumbing to some disease. The latter type of martyrdom in film and television can be more dangerous than the former because it normalizes the self-inflicted plight of the gay man. This sends a...

"Choose a Medical Condition That Interests You and Research It. Write About the Possible Uses of Hypnosis in the Treatment of the Condition as You See Them.

..."Choose a medical condition that interests you and research it. Write about the possible uses of hypnosis in the treatment of the condition as you see them. Induction I have choosen to look at eczema for this essay. It is something that affects me personally. Eczema is a fairly common skin condition. It is an innflamation of the upper layers of the skin. It is seen mostly in children and affects around 1 in 12 adults. There does seem to be a link between eczema, hay fever and asthma, and as yet there is no known cure for it. Atopic eczema is a genetic condition based on the interaction between a number of genes and environmental factors. In most cases there will be a family history of either eczema or one of the other ‘atopic’ conditions i.e asthma or hay fever. The symptoms of ezcema can vary from being dry, itchy and inflamed to being broken and bleeding and raw. Ezcema is linked to stress levels in people and people who suffer with ezcema can develop anxiety around the way it looks and disfigures the skin, which in turn creates greater stress levels and ultimately leads to the eczema getting worse. It can be a viscious cycle. There is not a lot of research done into the power of hypnosis and other therapies such as meditation linked to eczema. The word eczema comes from the Greek word “ekzein” which means “to boil". The most successful treatment with eczema is steriod creams and ointments, one of the main problems with eczema is its extrememly itchy and this...

Habits of a Rich Girl

...Assignment 1.2, “Facing Poverty with a Rich Girl’s Habits” by Kim: Revised Brionica Leary ENG 115 Professor Rachel Hays November 18, 2012 Suki Kim is the author of “Facing Poverty with a rich girl’s habits”, by Kim. In the essay she talks about how she learned to adapt to a new way of living after losing everything that her family once owned. She explains how she began to accept who she had become, and how her outlook on life changed after this transition had taken place. Kim realized that no matter where she was geographically in this world, that she was still the same person within her soul. Not only was she still the same person from within, but that her cultures and beliefs did not have to change because of where she resided in this world. Kim also came to peace with knowing that there were more people of her culture, who shared the same beliefs living in America as well. Kim’s main purpose in her writing was to explain to her audience that she had experienced a great deal of challenges adapting to different beliefs and cultures living in America, versus living in Korea. She stressed to her audience that it was challenging accepting a new way of living compared to what she had been taught, and was already accustomed to believing. Kim’s genre in this writing could be classified several ways. Overall, her genre was narrative. It was very explanatory. I would also consider it to be a memo. Her audience consisted of people of her race (Koreans), who had...
