The Heart of a Champion

Electronic Sports, simply abbreviated as eSports, can be explained as a sport that is just in electronic from. When we think of Sports, we think of activities involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others. Although eSports may not offer the same type of physical exhaustion that real life sports provide. The mental aspect of eSports is just as competitive, if not more so. At first thought, one will assume that the common reason to play Video Games, is to simply have fun, to get away, without truly getting away. Both true to a degree of extent. Say for instance you play basketball, you play for fun with your friends; after a while you realize not only are you having fun, you’re developing skill. With skill comes competition, and with competition comes self improvement. So, how do you improve upon one’s self, the answer is simple, you compete against others who too, wish to better themselves. You know the saying, you are only as good as your competition. That is true with any sport, or anything you do. One cannot compete at the highest level unless he/she has competed against the best. Casual competition alone will not make you a great player, a good one, sure. This is the part where the parents begin to question, they are upset because the Champion is spending most of his daylight indoors. The reason for this, is that the Champion, wishes to reach a new level, a level that opposes a threat to the competition. The Champion will soon realize that their goal is not wanted by him alone, it’s shared with countless others. When you meet your match, you will know if this is what you want. This is the foundation that drives eSports, the defeat of losing produces the drive for winning. The Players that endure, and accept their failures, faults, and

Into Thin Air

...entire senior year, award ceremonies always seemed to turn out that way. It was the running joke of our senior class; we had taken on the title of Second Place Academy. First place kept escaping our sports team’s grasps, including my own. As a cheerleader and avid sports fan, I attended basically every game, match, and meet during my senior year. That year some of the recipients of those second place medals included the hockey team, cheerleaders, boys soccer, boys basketball, girls lacrosse, volleyball, gymnastics, football, and so on. Through the tears, disappointment and many upsets, I learned bitter sweetly how much my high school community really means to me. La Salle Academy is a large, private Catholic high school located in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island. We are known for our sports, our arts, and of course the education you receive while in private school. With private schools, come a variety of unwanted factors. One is the hate you receive from public school students, I learned quickly that it doesn’t matter who you are, and they just love to see you fail. Another is the rich group of students who have all been friends since kindergarten, and have climbed the ladder of private schools together. This group’s bubble is almost impossible to break into. Now, don’t get me wrong I learned to love this school. I transferred from a public school La Salle after my freshman year, and this was anything but easy. Private schools sometimes get stereotyped, wrongfully and...

How Did Parlap Influence Australia

...The Colt look anything but a champion, warts covered his face and there was awkwardness about his present that didn’t inspire the least amount of confidence. One of Pharlap’s many vets, Dr Stewart from the early 1930s, wrote “Pharlap’s head was just a plain head, nothing small or mean about it, it also lacked that beautiful moulding characteristic of the thoroughbred.” Not only did the general public and race enthusiasts think that Pharlap had no features that portrayed a champion but his own vet even thought this too. Harry Telford was infuriated with such comments because he truly believed that Pharlap’s breeding would come through so he wanted to name him, lightning, and the Thai word for lightning is ‘Farlap’ but Harry insisted it have 7 letters as the last three Melbourne cup winner at the time had 7 letters in their names so the ‘F’ was changed to ‘Ph’ and so the name Pharlap came. Racegoers thought that the name was an absolute joke as the horse ran anything but like lightning. Considering...

League of Legends

...League of Legends (LoL) is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games for Microsoft Windows[1] and Mac OS X. It is a free-to-play game supported by micro-transactions and inspired by the mod Defense of the Ancients[2] for the video game Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. In League of Legends, players assume the role of a "champion" with unique abilities and battle against a team of other players or computer-controlled champions. In the most popular game modes, the goal is to destroy the opposing team's "nexus", a building which lies at the heart of a base protected by defensive structures. Each League of Legends game is discrete, with all champions starting off each game fairly weak and progressing by accumulating gold and experience over the course of the game.[3] League of Legends was generally well received at release, and it has grown in popularity in the years since. By July 2012, League of Legends was the most played PC game in North America and Europe in terms of the number of hours played.[4] As of January 2014, over 67 million people play League of Legends per month, 27 million per day, and over 7.5 million concurrently during peak hours.[5] League of Legends has a large, active competitive scene. In North America and Europe, Riot Games organizes the League of Legends Championship Series, which consists of 10[6] professional teams in each continent. Similar regional competitions exist in China, South Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast...
