The Importance of Revision
EN1420

Imagine that you are reading a book and you find a typo, you disregard it and continue to read and low and behold you find another typo. This goes on for about five paragraphs and now you are livid and very distracted from the story line because of all of the errors. I believe that it is extremely important to revise documents that you have written and I’ll explain why. It is extremely important to revise and re-read your own writing for several reasons. One; we are all human and therefore we will make mistakes. By re-reading something that you’ve spent several hours writing you will find that you might have made a punctuation error or even left words out. This allows for chances to correct any issues that may take away from the fluidity of the document written. By revising a document it allows the author a chance to change a document if new information comes to light or if while revising the document and it gives the author another chance to re-think the way they choose to deliver the information to the public. Imagine looking at a picture of a beautiful sunset and your best friend standing next to you is looking at the same picture. Your friend notices that there is a small camera on the edge of the picture frame, a feature that you cannot see because of you point of view. I know that this is a very random example but the point is the same. The benefit of asking for input from others gives the writer several different perspectives on a particular view. If for example the writer feels strongly about a topic and approaches it from only one angle then it does not allow for a very objective view. If however the others are allowed to give feedback then the author can get several ideas on how to approach a topic from several different perspectives and this will add depth to the paper that they (the writer) is writing. Jane Aaron The Little Brown Fact Analysis

...Jane E. Aaron gives a good insight on revising writings in The Little, Brown Compact Handbook Ninth Edition. Aaron presents the importance of revision upon an essay or organized text. Revision processes are done both alone and by peers of the writer. It is often a great idea to ask a peer to review and respond to one’s work. When editing by one’s self, it is good to step away from the text after finishing the draft. This gives the writer a chance to look at the writing with a new point of view, similar to asking a new pair of eyes to look at the paper. Often, it helps to look over the paper in a different context. Arron correspondingly proclaims that transferring a written essay to a computer and transitioning a word document to paper is also...

Together with Shell and the Union we have put together a team to mandate revisions that will have the best interest of the employees. The overtime policy was developed by BP in a response to their Texas City explosion that was later recognized as negligence. Refineries along the ship channel have adopted their response into their company to show that they are willing to negate the possibilities of an incident. While this was a great show of what the company is able to do for the environment and community, this has negatively impacted all hourly employees. When it comes to revising your essay there are key questions that you want to ask yourself and make sure that they are answered. You want to make sure that the topic sentence of each paragraph addresses your thesis statement; such as different types of weight loss methods, each paragraphs’ topic sentence should be a different method. Revision Letter

...Dear Professor Dockter, The essay that I have chosen to revise for assignment #4 is the profile essay. In this particular essay, the objective of the writer was successfully interviewing and presenting a member of a community. A member is a small part of an identity to the community. The community I selected was the Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and the specific member was Daniel Vega, a director of the language and culture department. In revising this essay, I feel that a principal global factor that the paper lacked was organization. Organization is a key component that molds an essay. According to Rules for Writers, “these patterns (sometimes called methods of development) have different uses, depending on the writers subject and purpose” (35) explaining that it depends on the type of essay I am trying to convey to the audience. The essay was short of an appropriate organization as far as an outline. I went back to the basics and rewrote my topic sentences, as well as my support and details briefly. It provided me with a basic knowledge of exactly what my paper was going to look like and consist of. With this exercise, I was able to recognize the details and the evidence that belong to other sections of the essay. Since this is a profile essay, it contains a mix of organizations to utilize: description, narration and includes a slight bit of process. It relies on what you are including in the profile. With these organizations, I am able to combine the essence of their...

...This revision was necessary for the comprehension of that sentence as it would have not made grammatical sense before the proofread. Another instance that included outcome four in SA 2.3 was in my revisions tailored to my peer’s comments in, ” "Water For All" is a mission statement of an MIT project that claims that clean water is paramount to a successful society and that there are consequences to inaction toward this problem.” A peer suggested, and I changed, the use of more sophisticated word choice in this sentence as it is a meaningful topic sentence. This was done to create a more profession topic sentence which I much more interesting with more complex synonyms. On the same hand, I used clear and intentional writing on multiple levels in, “The author of "Water" develops their claim by giving their argument, stating water-related challenges, arguing the right to water, setting goals, and lastly, explaining the importance of water to hygiene and sanitation.” This sentence was revised multiple times to achieve the most concise and purposeful sentence possible at both the word and sentence level in describing the goals of the subject...

Continuous Disclosure: Social Media and the Two Sides to Trading Halts

...Michael Quilter The Conversation, 21 January 2013. In this article, the author has highlighted the importance and the need of increasing awareness and policing in the area of continuous disclosure by Australia’s corporate regulators. The framework of Continuous Disclosure act was introduced in 1994. However, disclosure requirements are certainly not new in corporate law and are dated back to the late 19th century where companies were required to announce promptly any alteration of market material information. However, in the 21st century, where technology enhanced the efficiency to facilitate the multiplied market information through social media, the disclosure act has never been as important as it is today. The recent revision of the listing rule by Australian Securities and Investment (ASIX), which is backed by the litigation Chapter 6CA, highlighted the need to respond to the world today. Any single piece of information is able to upset the fragile share market. The general area where the disclosure act is regulated in Chapter 6CA (ss674-678) Corporations Act as well as through Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) Listings Rules (Chapter 3). The listings rule is supported by Section 674, which requires disclosure of information that is not generally available (and that a reasonable person would expect if it were generally available) and accordance with listing rules, to have material effect on the price. The general principle behind ASX continuous disclosure...

Personality Overview

...Personality Overview Theories of personality are truly amazing as each theorist speculates from his or her own point of view. All theories are a reflection of their author’s personal background, childhood experiences, interpersonal relationships, philosophy of life and the way they look at the world (feist & feist, 2009). In the following document strengths and limitations will be discussed in relation to underlying assumptions, deterministic versus free will, and awareness of self through conscious and unconscious motives for behavior. The psychoanalytic theory presented by Sigmund Freud paved the way for future psychoanalysts to add their own theories. According to McLeod (2007) Psychodynamic approach assumptions include our feelings that are powerfully affected by unconscious motives. Our behavior and feelings as adults are rooted in our childhood experiences and all behavior has a cause, even slips of the tongue. Therefore all behavior is determined. Personality is made up of three parts and behavior is motivated by two instinctual drives. Parts of the unconscious mind are in constant conflict with the conscious part of the mind. According to Berryhill, (2011) one major concept and underlying assumption of Freud’s theory subdivides the human mind into three distinct categories. According to his theory the components of the mind include the conscious, preconscious and the subconscious areas. The conscious mind also includes our current thinking processes, behaviors and...
