...A definition of Language is “a body of words and the systems for their use common to a people who are of the same community or nation, the same geographical area, or the same cultural tradition.” Language can become a sort of barrier between people and different communities. The more languages you know the fewer barriers you have between each other. Globalization has made languages that much more important. Along with Language comes culture, you might know the language but it does not mean you can really fit in to that culture. Within the same language there is different dialects, accents, and traditions. I believe you can learn a lot about a culture through its language. The example that I have experienced has been with the Spanish language. The Spanish that I speak is not the same Spanish as all other Spanish speaking societies. The biggest difference within the language has to do with the variety of cultures. I am from Guatemala, Central America, not the same Spanish as South America (many different Spanish’s there), the Spanish speaking Caribbean Islands and Spain. About a year ago I took a Spanish course in Spain, and that is where I noticed how much the language can vary. There is no “perfect” Spanish, because of the variety of different cultures, Spanish has evolved and has caused this interesting diversity. Because of its vast diversity we can learn about the different cultures. In Spain I learned, just from listening to people conversing, some of the culture there....

...Abstract This research paper will discuss Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). The SEC is now requiring companies to submit financial statements in the XBRL format. (XBRL) is a language for the electronic communications of all sort of businesses and the exchange of financial data that is transforming business reporting around the globe. First in this research, I will discuss the definition and origins of (XBRL), and then I will summarize how (XBRL) works. Later, I will emphasize the main gains that XBRL provides in terms of cost savings, better efficiency and enhanced accuracy. Finally, it’s important to debate the disadvantages of Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL). History and definition Presented in the 1990‟s by Charles Hoffman, Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is a reforming business reporting throughout the world. This language has being used for reporting financial data around the globe, and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is serious about transforming corporate filings into an XBRL-based electronic reporting system. SEC started to get involved and requires (XBRL) to be phased in for U.S. financial reporting over the next few years (Hannon, 2005). The three year schedule phase-in plan is as follows: * 2009 – “Large accelerated filers”: (1) Use U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and (2) have a market capitalization of $5 billion as of the end of the most recent second fiscal quarter. (Estimated to cover...

...concept of Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) was conceived by Charles Hoffman, a CPA in the state of Washington, USA. Since then it has grown to become a global phenomenon. In 2009, the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) mandated the implementation of financial statements in XBRL format. Since its implementation, XBRL benefits where to reduce cost, improve data accuracy, flexibility and increase transparency. The purpose of this paper is to give a brief history on XBRL, XBRL’s implication on auditing, and the different challenges faced when implementing XBRL. HISTORY Charlie Hoffman is who coined the idea of Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) in 1998. Brands (2013) stated that Hoffman saw the way to “how Extensible Markup Language (XML) could be used to share financial and business information in computer systems by employing standardized tags to define the information” (p 56). XBRL enables business information to be electronically shared, communicated, interpreted, and reused without human manipulation. With XBRL, users are able to tag or establish taxonomies to an individual item whether numerical or textual data. The use of tagging or taxonomy has made it easier to understand how the information is related to each other and how the information is calculated (www.xbrl.org). Based on AICPA.org, XBRL is able to provide the following benefits to its users: • companies and other producers of financial data and business reports can automate...

...1.10 Factors to consider when globalising Factors Description Language Maldivian language factor has to be kept in mind. Well knowledge and language skill staff need to be recruited to adjust according to the local language Culture Countries are different from one other in terms of language spoken, religion practiced, and food eaten and in many other ways. These differences are very real and significant, and HNB should consider how these differences can hinder or facilitate the marketing efforts of the company in the Maldivian market. Market Attractiveness The attractiveness of a market can be assessed by evaluating the market potential in terms of revenues that can be generated, access to the market in terms of the host country being warm...

It is not sufficient in business for foreigners to understand only the general culture of the target language, since culture and language cannot be separated (King), yet language study by itself is inadequate. Language is constructed with a strong influence exerted by the culture. Indeed, when studying language, it is incumbent upon us to study the culture of the target language (Bloch). Even though culture cannot explain everything (Fallows), and the business world shares a common ground regardless of culture (Bloch), fundamental features of the...

...Re: | Official Language of Financial Statement | Comments: | I believe that there should be an official language for the Financial Statement. Using only one language in business world is easy for business people to communicate with each other. There are translators and translation software; however, those methods cost money and there is no guaranteed that those methods don’t have any flaw. Small flaws in business world could cost lots of money. Business people are expected to be ethical but among those people, there are some people that are tempted and will commit unethical act. Using translators and translation software could give those people an opportunity to commit an unethical act. Learning a new language is not an easy task, but to be among those people in the business world is not an easy task either. If they could be there in the business world, then learning a new language shouldn’t be that hard. Some companies might just satisfy with what they have and don’t want to seek to expand internationally. However, if there is a chance for them to do so, then they will not throw it away. Because to be in that position today, they must always have that desire to move forward and take risks. People that has no desires and are not willing to take risks wouldn’t be in that position today. Even if there is a small group people who are tired of taking risks after they took so many risks, then they could just learn a new language just in case they will change their minds in the future...

...the costs/benefits of such a policy? Rakuten’s decision for “englishnization” of the company is 100% in line with the trend that “English is now the global Language of Business” Englishnization of global corporations: Strategy is Needed by Sebastian Reiche blog.iese.edu It still doesn’t mean an easy transition. People naturally oppose any changes and that can lead to higher costs especially in the beginning stages. The way Mikitani announced the “Englishnization” policy, without consulting with his management team did not prepare any employees for this change. The employers were immediately put under a lot of stress and experience a lot of pressure. Also linking the worker’s salaries to their English results and improvements increases the stress and uncertainty among employers. Higher stress levels normally have a negative impact on your efficiency and result in lower productivity. Poor communication (because of the immediate ban on any other language) also leads to lower productivity due to misunderstandings and waste of time. Despite these original costs in the short term, this Englishnization policy will have a lot more benefits for the company in the long way. As mentioned above English is the Global language of Business and this policy will lead to better communication between all international business. Being English efficient, managers will understand their competitors strategies better and will also be able to communicate this better to their workers. ...

Every society, for example, has its own daily routines and rules, codes or social relations, language, and the show of emotions—even concepts of luck” (Daniel, 2011). Therefore, some sort of study of the culture should be done. The Journal of Management & Marketing Research states, “Since the entry mode is crucial for the success of a new business in the overseas market, various studies should be made on the relationship between cultural distance...
