TGI Friday's is a franchise restaurant that serves a variety of food items (like burgers, pasta, wings, salads). The TGI Friday’s, in Rancho Cucamonga, has a large amount of traffic with weekly sales of 90 to 100 thousand and about 60 employees. Anthony has no college education but has read many manger books like the One Minute Manager and Good to Great. Before becoming a General manager of TGI Friday’s, he uses to be a server for a different Friday’s. The purpose of the interview was to determine how a manager plans their day-to-day operations and how they motivate employees. Planning is a very important for managers since it helps them understand their overall task with steps needed to accomplish such task. However there is not right way to plan so everyone has his or her own ideas of planning. For Anthony planning means creating a list of his entire task. This was while he was at Harvard he had the idea to write a book that specifically focused on the role of high school football plays within American society. This happened to take place in particular rural societies. Bissinger returned to the Inquirer for a short amount of time, received a Pulitzer Prize, and then decided to go out in search of a community in which high school football was prevalent. Bissinger then settled on Odessa, Texas. In Odessa, Texas Permian High School and its football team, the Permian Panthers, had a long history of winning in Texas' 4A and 5A divisions. This earned Permian High School winning championships in 1965, 1972, 1980 and 1984. Bissinger moved himself and his family to Odessa, Texas and spent the entire 1988 football season with the Permian Panther players, their families, their coaches, and even many of the townspeople in an effort to understand the town and its die-hard football culture. ...A Summer to Remember Over the summer earlier this year I got some community service hours working as a camp counselor at a summer camp. It was a 4 week program and I was really enjoying it. All I had to do was help kids with activates like archery, hiking and canoeing. It was a lot of fun even though I was the youngest counselors there. The second youngest counselor and I quickly became friends but because we were the youngest we often got stuck with the jobs that no one else wanted to do like washing the restrooms and cleaning dishes after meals. His name was Ryan and he was a native who lived with his parents just down the street from the camp. I had fun and made friends. Before I go farther into the story I need to explain to you some things about the camp. Back in the days before the camp was built a small river ran through the property. This river powered a wheat mill that was used to grind wheat for natives in the surrounding area. As the number of natives decreased so did the need for the flour mill. It was soon abandon and left to rot. But then some entrepreneurs came along and say the land had potential for being a summer camp. So they dug a manmade lake, built some cabins and activate centers and converted the wheat mill into a power source. They built a reservoir to increase water flow and increase the amount of electricity that could be produced.
