The following essay focuses on aspects of research completed within an OFSTED rated ‘Outstanding’ Staffordshire special school. The small scale study uses a questionnaire to identify areas of Multi-agency working and the positives and negatives of such working in this context. The study highlights that a number of agencies were dealt with more favourably than others. Another area of research that highlights an individual showed the specific transition difficulties and issues when pupils move from an 11-16 context to a 16+, Further Education context and beyond to adulthood. The researcher considered further the implications and effectiveness of communication and the needs of young people to express their genuine desires and thoughts and the …show more content…
Multi-agency working is something that is increasing due to the need for ‘better and faster’ results, outcomes and strategies for children, young people and their families (Collett, p.1, 2010) and involves five different models of multi-agency working that Atkinson (2002, p. ii.) highlights, whilst Collett also expounds that there is extensive difficulty initially at pinpointing exactly what ‘multi’ or ‘inter’ or ‘collaborative agency’ truly is (p.3-4).
Pettitt (2003) shows the importance of working with others, she highlights the difficulties in different working ‘cultures’. (p.7-9) She fails however to identify what is meant by ‘culture’ in the context of CAHMS she is researching. The Ministry of Children and Development in British Columbia identify that there are a number of ‘cultural’ issues(p.14) when considering ‘transition’ for young people. One main aim of inter-disciplinary working is what Cartwright and Wind-Cowie (p.2, 2005) identify as ‘continuity’ between effective programmes of study and daily practise. This was identified as a real area of strength from the research questionnaires for school X.(fig1) The viewpoint that the government takes is that groups and agencies should be working together to protect children from harm. Their assertions are correct that safeguarding and keeping children safe are everyone’s responsibility (HM Government, March 2013, p.8). However as the government themselves
