...Newman Jr. Prof. Grix Art Appreciation 4/23/11 Analysis of Dylan James Art “Nomadic” They say art is the way the artist perceives how the world is or its issues and that we are to understand it as they want us to. In most cases that’s true but sometimes, in some art it puts you in your own little dream world. That work of art makes you forget all that’s going around you and you immerse yourself into the art, or should I say dreamland. To me when I really like a work of art I have to connect to it, I must feel the connection they are trying to make but also create my own. Once the art pulls me in that’s when it becomes my dreamland and brings about a certain peace that only art can do. This analysis will discuss the different mediums, purpose and personal perception on what makes it my dreamland. The first thing you recognize in a painting is the medium. This piece was a little tricky because it seemed to be a mixture of water color and impasto. Since that is never or rarely done I’ve come to the conclusion its kind of a lite impasto. The work of art was done it looks like on paper but its not the paper that brings this work out, it’s the use of the oil paint. Dylan James made this piece, “Nomadic” by drawing a family of three with an unusual but simply brilliant impasto technique. He draws the borders of the figures thick so you would know that they are figures and how they look but shades in the bodies kind of lightly and puts the family in a hierarchic scale...

...present one side of the argument or another. That is not the point. Many scholarly sources for example, are likely to provide you with arguments that you will use for both sides of your controversy. While you don’t have to worry about choosing the same number of “for” articles and “against” articles, it is important to make sure you have a balanced number of arguments for each side of your debate. Finally, you also don’t need to separate your popular and scholarly sources as they are likely to examine similar issues. You don’t want to be repetitive when describing various arguments, so think about a way of effectively organizing the arguments you will presenting. Your paper is essentially going to be divided in two parts. The first part will be about describing the arguments on either side of the debate. I call this the descriptive component of your paper. The second part of your paper is the analysis. You will be analyzing two things. First, I want you to compare and contrast how your topic is presented in scholarly versus popular media. Think of areas like language (simple versus complex), use of references, and length of article as a starting point for your analysis. Make sure to use examples in your analysis. For instance, if you tell me that scholarly sources are harder to understand than popular ones because of language, provide an example of this from your own sources. The other thing I want you to analyze is how your topic relates to any one or two of our course themes and/or...

It is described as integrative because it has elements of psychoanalytic, humanist and cognitive approaches. TA was developed by Canadian-born US psychiatrist, Eric Berne, during the late 1950s. According to the International Transactional Analysis Association,[1] TA 'is a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and personal change'. 1. As a theory of personality, TA describes how people are structured psychologically. It uses what is perhaps its best known model, the ego-state (Parent-Adult-Child) model, to do this. The same model helps explain how people function and express their personality in their behavior[1] 2. It is a theory of communication that can be extended to the analysis of systems and organisations.[1] 3. It offers a theory for child development...

...learned a lot through out the semester. I learned how to write different kinds of papers, how to do research on a topic, and how to manage my time to where I can efficiently do my work by the due date. At the beginning of the year we had to write a literary analysis and in that analysis I said that me, and writing never really had a strong relationship and I was not exactly a fan of writing. Months later and I still feel the same way… I may not enjoy it but I know I have grown stronger in the writing department because of this class. My teacher being very involved with our work helped tremendously. It was so helpful to receive our drafts back with comments on how to make our papers better. It most definitely improved my writing. When we would free write in class I felt challenged, because it is hard for me to just think on the spot, but the more we free wrote the better I got it. I also enjoyed when we got to present our issues that our issue analysis was over to the class. It was interesting to hear all the research people did and what they focused their paper on. Getting chocolate cake wasn’t so bad either. I will admit that I was very nervous when it came to me presenting my issue. Being in front of people is one of my flaws that get in the way of assignments like that. The books that were required for the class really helped, especially the FY book. The step-by-step instructions that the book gave helped me get through every one of my papers. It was also pretty cool meeting...

Micro Aggression in Daily Life

...Muslim Chinese. Han and Hui have different living customs. For example, Hui are forbidden to eat pork while pork is the most common meat consumed by Han. In my high school, there were two dinning rooms: a big one for Han students, and the other small one for Hui students. I had dinner with my friend-Qian, who was Hui, but stayed with me in Han Chinese dinning room on that day. I enjoyed my pork dish, and wanted to share it with her but she refused. Qian explained, “I am Hui people, we do not eat pork.” I did not give up and said, “Come on, I have known you for ages, we are the same, we are all Chinese people. I can not see any differences.” My friend began to keep silent, and I kept persuading her, “just try one slice of the pork, they are really delicious”. However, my friend frowned and said “I can not eat it. The smell of the pork makes me sick”. After hearing her words, I stopped persuading her to eat pork because I did not want to make her uncomfortable. Then we began to talk other topics. I was unaware that what I committed was a microaggression at that time. Microaggressions are verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional happening in daily life, conveying communicating hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults toward people of color (Sue et al., 2007). In this case, I did not see ethnic differences and persuaded my friend to have same food with me, communicating the subtle derogative...

What key concepts or “constructs” are used to explain your personality? I believe one of many key constructs that I would use to explain my personality, is that I’m an observer. I’m constantly observing the environment around me. I feel like I need to know what’s going on around me. I may be in a situations where I might need to assure I’m protected. I observe to see if I’m in a situation or place where I can just relax and let lose. I observe to get a vibe or a feel for where I am so that maybe I can fit in or just walk away.
