...There were movies that came out when I was growing up that for some reason I thought I was not allowed to watch. I blame miscommunication, for a few months my mom literally thought that PG rated movies meant a parent had to watch it along with their child. That is, until I saw it in class one day in the fourth grade. As a child I thought a teacher counted as a “parent” (in that they’re in charge of you), so watching a movie about kids playing baseball couldn’t be the worst thing in the world. For being a nine-year-old, it was the best. Truth be told, I haven’t seen The Sandlot since that day. When we counted our blessings, our class had saved up enough pop tabs to have a pizza day/movie combo. But do you know what? I learned something. I know that. I learned several things that have had a profound impact on my life just from watching that movie, and here they are. We are all “Smalls”. Smalls is the underdog, and honestly, so are we.
