When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, it changed my life. I knew that I would never be the same, even after a cure. I knew that I would have to check my blood sugar and take shots every day. I would have to go to the nurse three times a day. I thought that everyone would make fun of me and not like me anymore. When I found out on September fifth 2014, it was very scary. My stomach was hurting a lot and everyone didn’t even think that it was diabetes. I went to the doctor and they took my blood sugar and at that point I was over 300. People without diabetes sugar is 70-120. I started freaking out and crying. I didn’t know what was going to happen to me. I then got rushed to the E.R. and at that point I was 410. When I got to the hospital, …show more content…
This includes Mama’s health, cutting down the trees, and Papa’s life. The author wrote, “‘Yes’m’ ‘Well that’s how sick I am.’” Reading this tells me Cassie overcame her fear of .Mama not being okay. In the beginning, Cassie thought that Mama wasn’t going to be okay because she didn’t have the medicine. In the text it said, “‘They just can’t cut do that.’” They were scared about them cutting down the trees. “‘Will you ever sing again?’” Then it shows that they didn’t cut down all of the trees because Cassie is talking to them and is not afraid that they will not cut them down again. The author stated, “‘Could possibly have.... an accident.’” This shows that everyone is being scared, but in the end Papa came back. So, everyone wasn’t scared that Papa didn’t have an accident. One example of a similarity is we both were afraid that our lives and others live were in danger. This includes when Cassie was afraid for Papa when Mr. Anderson said that he could have an accident and Mama not having her medicine. Also, I was afraid when I was in the hospital. I thought that I was not going to be fine and that I would be in the hospital for a long time. Another similarity is the way that we persevered through our struggle. Cassie just waited for the time to come when she was sticking up for herself. Also, she talked to people to make sure that they are okay. I, on the other hand, kept telling myself that everything was going to be okay. Also, I talked to people to make me feel better. A difference is the struggle. Cassie was afraid of the trees being cut down and I was afraid of me not being okay. Another difference is that Cassie was a young girl that was afraid of other people and things. I was afraid that I was never going to be the same. I learned that I can do anything since my life was in danger. I now know that I can persevere through a lot even though I have struggled. My ability to persevere is when I have to take four shots a day or getting blood taken but I know though that it will save my

...The twelve adventures refer to the delays and the obstacles that Odysseus had to overcome in order to return home from the Trojan war. First, they arrive at Ismarus, the land of the Cicones. They sack the city, killing the men and taking the women and treasure as bounty. They are later attacked by the Cicones. Second, They arrive in the Land of the Lotus-eaters. Here, his men eat lotus flowers. The flowers cause the men to lose their desire to return home, so Odysseus must force them back to the ship. Third, at the Cyclops' cave, his men escape being eaten only by Odysseus blinding the one-eyed Polyphemus (son of Poseidon). He does so by claiming that his name is "No One." When Polyphemus screams, he says that "No One" is attacking him, so his fellow cyclopes do not come to his rescue. As a result, Poseidon threatens Odysseus with much suffering and the ultimate loss of his men. Fourth, King Aeolus gives Odysseus and his men a place to stay for about a month. Upon their departure, Aeolus puts winds in a bag and gives them to Odysseus, instructing him not to open it. The crew get close to Ithaca, but while Odysseus sleeps, they open the bag of winds and are flown back towards Aeolia. Fifth, at the Land of the Laestrygens, giant cannibals eat all but one of Odysseus' ships. Sixth, at Aeaea, the enchantress Circe turns Odysseus' scouting party into pigs. But Hermes, the messenger of the gods, gives Odysseus an herb against a similar fate. Odysseus sleeps with...

Nothing

...BELOVED Toni Morrison ← Analysis of Major Characters → Sethe Sethe, the protagonist of the novel, is a proud and noble woman. She insists on sewing a proper wedding dress for the first night she spends with Halle, and she finds schoolteacher’s lesson on her “animal characteristics” more debilitating than his nephews’ sexual and physical abuse. Although the community’s shunning of Sethe and Baby Suggs for thinking too highly of themselves is unfair, the fact that Sethe prefers to steal food from the restaurant where she works rather than wait on line with the rest of the black community shows that she does consider herself different from the rest of the blacks in her neighborhood. Yet, Sethe is not too proud to accept support from others in every instance. Despite her independence (and her distrust of men), she welcomes Paul D and the companionship he offers. Sethe’s most striking characteristic, however, is her devotion to her children. Unwilling to relinquish her children to the physical, emotional, and spiritual trauma she has endured as a slave, she tries to murder them in an act that is, in her mind, one of motherly love and protection. Her memories of this cruel act and of the brutality she herself suffered as a slave infuse her everyday life and lead her to contend that past trauma can never really be eradicated—it continues, somehow, to exist in the present. She thus spends her life attempting to avoid encounters with her past. Perhaps Sethe’s fear of the past is...

Short Story

...BEHIND THE MAN Behind the Man by YDR Sometimes it is better to pretend that we are not affected by what’s happening around us than be hurt with the truth it brings on us. This morning he will open the shop and spend most of his time talking to customers with his life’ s adventure as well as his problems he surpassed lately. He talks like a parrot in every person he meets and tells the same story that he had recently. He projects so well that he is a good provider with all the people he has talked to. He pretends to be humble with all the things he has. He can go to shopping mall whenever he wants. If he wants to eat something exotic he can go to Subic. He can travel locally and internationally. With all these , people thought that his business proliferates. How fortunate! His daughter, LJ is enrolled in a well known private tertiary school taking up Photography, a course that he never approved . Short Stories

...Bienvenido Santos: The Day The Dancers Came AS soon as Fil woke up, he noticed a whiteness outside, quite unusual for the November mornings they had been having. That fall, Chicago was sandman's town, sleepy valley, drowsy gray, slumberous mistiness from sunup till noon when the clouds drifted away in cauliflower clusters and suddenly it was evening. The lights shone on the avenues like soiled lamps centuries old and the skyscrapers became monsters with a thousand sore eyes. Now there was a brightness in the air land Fil knew what it was and he shouted, "Snow! It's snowing!" Tony, who slept in the adjoining room, was awakened. "What's that?" he asked. "It's snowing," Fil said, smiling to himself as if he had ordered this and was satisfied with the prompt delivery. "Oh, they'll love this, they'll love this." "Who'll love that?" Tony asked, his voice raised in annoyance. "The dancers, of course," Fil answered. "They're arriving today. Maybe they've already arrived. They'll walk in the snow and love it. Their first snow, I'm sure." "How do you know it wasn't snowing in New York while they were there?" Tony asked. "Snow in New York in early November?" Fil said. "Are you crazy?" "Who's crazy?" Tony replied. "Ever since you heard of those dancers from the Philippines, you've been acting nuts. Loco. As if they're coming here just for you. Tony chuckled. Hearing him, Fil blushed, realizing that he had, indeed, been acting too eager, but Tony had said it. It felt that way--as...
