A provocateur that is the street artist Banksy is. Powerful he is too, even though his identity is unknown, which is indicated at the list of the 100 most influential people in the world, where he is in company with some of the big guns as Barack Obama and Angela Merkel.
Why is Banksy so influential?

The simple answer is because he is a provocateur, but he is much more than that. Besides being a street artist, he is a film director, painter and a political activist. Combine these four elements and you have a provocateur.

Through his work he has the ability to dare stand up and speak the peoples word. Due to his street art he dares practice what one preaches, what the people preaches.

Intertextuality refers to a situation in which one text refers to another trough loans, quotations and other references, which in this painting are the pond and the bridge. By looking at the two paintings, with a history oriented sight, you can draw the fact that they in the 19th century had a much cleaner and more safe world than we do today, which the traffic cone and the shopping carts indicates.

It is no joke that Banksy uses a cone and two shopping carts in his painting these symbols have a meaning. The cone symbolises danger, and the shopping carts shall be seen in the light of the westerns society’s massive pollution and overconsumption. There is a broad agreement that the world does not want the idyllic places such as Greenland and the Maldives to disappear due to pollution, and neither do we want to pollute the pond, so by placing these symbols in the pond he indicates, he provoke to the people that they should make a change, or otherwise the traffic cone and the shopping carts can be a common sight.
Overconsumptions are the reason to the society’s massive pollution, and Banksy do want the people to stop that. He indicates this in the title …show more content…
They are neither green, brown nor any other natural colours; no they are red, not just a symbol for danger, but also a signal that this specific topic is a relevant topic, which solution cannot withstand any other delay.

Without the cone and the shopping carts the picture would have been very idyllic, with round shapes and an undisturbed picture showing a fine little pond.
The 21th century’s danger signals are indicated with sharp edges, danger, and the bars on the shopping cars could indicate prison-like conditions.
The prison-like conditions are where another two of postmodernisms main concepts are shown. People, living in the 21th century are living in a prison-like condition, where people constantly live under several questions that they have to make a decision to. This reflexivity indicates that it is not just the single person, who has to take care of the situation, but the whole humanity to, the whole globalization.

In this image is monochromatic the only color that is used is black; using implied motion, the artist finds a way to give a lifelike feeling.
