The World Ending in 24 Hours

An extremely loud sounding siren is going off and nobody knows why. Therefore we turned on the news to realize that there is a massive asteroid heading for earth and will hit us in 24 hours from now. As soon as everyone heres the news panic and screaming erupts. Many are crying or just simply sitting in shock of what is happening.

As soon as I here the news I gather with my family. I would start by going out to a nice breakfast with everyone and talk about the good times we've all had. We also would forgive one another if we ever put someone through a hard time. After breakfast we would do things that we had put off before, such as going to church. We would all pray to god to forgive our sins and hope for a peaceful afterlife.

After church I would then contact the rest of my friends and family to thank you for all the things they have done for me and the kindness they have shown me. After contacting everyone I possibly could, I’d take my family out to the best and most expensive restaurant around. I would tell each person how much they mean to me and how important they were to me in my life. After dinner I would take my family outside to look up at the stars to enjoy a beautiful view before the end. When the asteroid was in sight we all just hugged, shut our eyes and waited in silence.

Is This Country Music?

...sings Brad Paisley on the renowned Nashville stage. With its world premiere at the 2010 Country Music Awards, Brad Paisley’s new hit single, “This is Country Music,” has taken the likes of millions of fans across the world. While referring to several of the past and present faces of country music including George Strait and Johnny Cash, it is no wonder this song has soared up the music charts. Numerous covers of “This is Country Music” have been posted to YouTube at a high rate and their view count number is getting bigger by the hour. Paisley, who was is also the Country Music Award’s entertainer of the year, shows his heartfelt sincerity in this song by singing about country music and how so many songs can be related to everyday life. Not every song will relate to every listener, but there is sure to be a country song that relates to your life in one way or another. Whether it’s an upbeat song like “Country Boys Can Survive” or a slow song like Dolly Parton’s “Stand by Your Man,” Paisley covered the bases for everyone’s personal soundtrack. Approximately two minutes into the song there is a thirty second guitar solo before he discusses country music’s strong point of view on freedom in America. The melody coming from fiddles and banjos is reduced to showcase Paisley and his showy electric guitar solo. Although I was able to reveal several memorable parts of the song, I cannot do the same for the ending. With over one minute left in the song, Paisley begins rattling...

Battle of Berlin

...European Theatre of World War II. The Soviet offensive central had two objectives. Stalin did not believe the Western Allies would hand over territory occupied by them in the post-war Soviet. But the overriding objective was to capture Berlin. Another consideration was that Berlin itself held useful post-war strategic assets, including Adolf Hitler and the German atomic bomb program. On 20 March, General Gotthard Heinrici was appointed Commander-in-Chief of Army Group Vistula. He immediately started to lay defensive plans. Heinrici arranged to fortify the Seelow Heights which overlooked the Oder River. German engineers turned the Oder's flood plain, already into a swamp by releasing the water from a reservoir upstream. The engineers built three belts of defensive emplacements reaching back towards the outskirts of Berlin. These lines consisted of anti-tank ditches, anti-tank gun emplacements, and an extensive network of trenches and bunkers. After a long resistance, East Prussia finally fell to the Red Army. This freed up Marshal Rokossovsky's 2nd Belorussian Front to move west to the east bank of the Oder river. Marshal Georgy Zhukov concentrated his 1st Belorussian Front, which had been deployed along the Oder river from Frankfurt in the south to the Baltic, into an area in front of the Seelow Heights. To the south, Marshal Konev shifted the main weight of the 1st Ukrainian Front out of Upper Silesia and northwest to the Neisse River. In the early hours on 16 April 1945...

The Life of the Sperm and Egg

...Week 1: Fertilization Fatimah Myers PSY/265 March 15, 2014 University of Phoenix Instructor – Dr. Zaleski In fertilization, the organs that make up the reproductive system in males plays the role of producing and discharging sperm within the female reproductive tract. The penis, scrotum, testes, sperm, epididymis, and accessory organs make up the reproductive organs in a male. In addition to being used for sexual intercourse and the pathway for semen, the penis is also where urine is passed through. The scrotum is a pouch located below the base of the penis, with two compartments. The compartments of the scrotum hold the testes. Each testicle is held in place by a spermatic cord. The spermatic cord is a structure that contains the vas deferens, blood vessels and nerves, and the cremaster muscle. This muscle controls the movement of testicle within the scrotum when there is a change in temperature and sexual stimulation (Rathus & Fichner-Rathus, 2011). The testes are responsible for the production of mature germ cells and the secretion of sex hormones. The epididymis is a tube that stores sperm and lies against the back wall of each testicle. The accessory glands of the male respiratory system include the seminal vesicles, the prostate and Cowper’s gland. Seminal vesicles are 2 inches in length and located behind the bladder. The seminal vesicles open into ejaculatory ducts and secrete fluids that combine with sperm to keep...

Synthesis Essay

...Synthesis Essay Different kinds of websites and books argue on the idea of whether the world is going to end in 2012 or not. All of them give reasons to persuade their readers as much as they could. When I went over some of the articles that talk about 2012, I asked, won’t those articles confuse people? Therefore, I have chosen two articles to see their effect over the readers. The first one is by Dr. Dr. Morrison David who is NAI senior scientist who answers a lot of questions that has been asked to NASA about 2012. The second one is by Dr. Archana who talks about different kinds of reasons why the world will end in 2012. Dr. Archana and Dr. Morrison have different opinions about 2012. Dr. Morrison says there is no evidence which proves the ending of the world is in 2012. According to him, people use this idea to make money out of it by creating different kinds of stories to persuade people (Dr. Morrison 7). In fact, He believes these kinds of concepts are products of Hollywood (Dr. Morrison 3). In the other side, Dr. Archana argues by saying “several experts are predicting that the earth is likely to end by the year 2012. The reason could be a human effect or natural disaster. From Chinese theories to scientific predictions the most likely date is the year 2012.” (Dr. Archana 1) Although Dr. Archana and Dr. Morrison agree in the presence of magnetic field, they give different view of what the earth’s magnetic field might cause. Dr. Morrison argues that there is slow movement...

Pheadra and Tartuffe

...requirements in order to fall under neoclassical. Phaedra and Tartuffe both embodies this idea in their own kind of way. There always had to be Five Acts and the play was also told in French Rhyme, that’s why some of the English translations seems like it doesn’t rhyme. It has three unities, time (24 hours only), place (same place), and action (only one plot). I will go in to greater detail on how each play does keeps to these requirements. “Poetic Justice” the evil guy gets what he deserves, and the forbearances of mixing comedy and tragedy, are major contraption on these neoclassical requirements. The plays have to feel real in neoclassical plays. Phaedra and Tartuffe both have perfect examples that show off how these plays are neoclassical. Each play must have 5 acts, that all must be done in one scene. In Tartuffe it was all done in Orgon house. In Phaedra it was done all in the royal palace at Trezene. Everything must be take place in a 24 hour span, it started when Orgon was talking about marrying his daughter to Tartuffe, then he gets arrested the following day by the king. In Phaedra it all starts when Hippolytus is talking about leaving in order to search for his father and then ending when everyone is pretty much dead and when Theseus pardons Aricia and adopts her as a his daughter. These rules must be followed to an exact or the play would not be pure. There must be one plot line, in Tartuffe, he is trying to achieve the estate of Orgon by cunning and acting. In Phaedra...

To Be Violent and Not to Be Violent

...Samuel Cruz Professor Charlie Veric Literature 13 24 July 2014 To Be Violent and Not To Be Violent The 1986 People Power Revolution in the Philippines, Occupy Wall Street, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Gandhi’s Salt March, and Martin Luther King Jr. are well-known examples of nonviolent movements. Although they are not completely peaceful, these movements have a cause and people did not use violence to solve the problem. But how are we supposed to deal with psychopaths randomly killing innocent people? In order to protect peace and order, authorized people (i.e. military, policemen) should use reasonable violence to protect those who are vulnerable. Violence and Nonviolence are indeed ways to solve conflicts within the society. In an article by Max Fisher (2013), he stated that political scientist Erica Chenoweth showed that nonviolent revolutions have been more successful than violent once because violence caused by the participants will only make the government use violence to fight back, and it will also discourage participants to join because of the danger of being harmed in the crossfire. The story “The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel García Márquez showed how the crowd already resorted to violence to make the Old Man respond to them; but even so, the Old Man remained nonviolent throughout the story. This is all right because the Old Man had no one to protect except himself. If you can tolerate a bit of violence without being violent in return, then...

Travel to Jeju Island

...Jonghoun Lee Jann Jansen-James English 122 24 September 2014 Travel to Jeju Island Many people enjoy traveling when they have a long break. Through traveling, which is an escape from their repeated daily boring life, people can have a fresh experience and get energy to stand their humdrum life, like we take a ten minutes break time after we study for one hour. I also love going on a trip. Of all the trips I had been on, my most memorable journey was to the Jeju Island with my family. Even though the island was a small area, such as millet, in the world, the family vacation showed me unforgettable beauty and gave me precious memory, such as landscape and coastline road. My unforgettable memory began as soon as I arrived at Jeju Island. I took an airplane to visit Jeju Island from Incheon airport. After about one and a half hour, I arrived at the island. The Jeju airport was not particularly different, but when my family went to out to reserve a rent car, we could not hide our surprised looks. As soon as we stood at the outside of the island, I could not forget the feeling of the cool wind, like a cold sprite in refrigerator, rushing through my whole body, the sunshine that caressed me, and the salted air smell which pleasantly irritate my nose. Also, after we got the rent car, driving on route gave me a strong impression, because there were tall trees like giant and straighten road like airplane runway. It made me recall Guam Island which is a famous tourist attraction...

Mayan Predictions

...For years and years people all over the world have tried to predict the end of the world. There are multiple dates every year that are possible winners, some more popular than others. This world will come to an end, but of that day no man can predict. Of the many apocalypse predictions, a few stick out more than others. One being the Mayan Apocalypse of 2012, or December 21, 2012. The name gives off the impression that the Mayans were the people to predict the world ending on this day, but it was not actually them. In fact, the Mayan never actually predicted an end to the world. The Mayan Apocalypse was simply a misunderstanding between the Mayan and the rest of the world. The Mayans believed that this world was not the first world created,...
