Against all odds, oppression, torture, slavery, exile, and genocide the Jewish people defied the world’s intolerance. May 14, 1948 the state of Israel came to life, Golda Meir remembered this bittersweet hope of all Jews, “‘The dream’ had come true, but too late to save those who had perished in the Holocaust” (Hunt, et. al., 932). The year 1882, 66 years from Israel becoming a state, no Jew on earth could have ever imagined this to be true; Leon Pinsker a Ukrainian physician had only hopes of uniting his people let alone the birth of a Jewish State. The document: Leon Pinsker Calls for a Jewish State reflects the Jew’s endless struggle for survival, illustrating the dire importance of staying united, and the greater need to find a land of their own.
Since the beginning of western expansion Jews had to fight against resistance in the form of hatred by others who shared the same land. Hatred is a disease, knows no bounds, and can be found in the hearts of all men; strangely however, it seems to prefer Jews. Pinsker writes this hateful intolerance “a fear of the …show more content…
The Bible, specifically the Old Testament, contains the words of their prophets and the promises of a new state, Leon Pinsker writes, “we shall take with us the most sacred possessions which we have saved from the shipwreck of our former country, the God-idea and the Bible. It is these alone which have made our old fatherland the Holy Land, and not Jerusalem or the Jordan. Perhaps the Holy Land will again become ours. If so, all the better…” (Hunt, et. al., 817). It was Yahweh, the god of the Jews who called upon Abraham and gave him a promise, “Now the Lord said to Abram: get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation, you shall be a blessing. I will bless you, I will curse those who curse you, in you all families will be blessed” (Gen. 12: 1-3

International Cooperation Against the World Drug Problem

...TOPIC: INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AGAINST THE WORLD DRUG PROBLEM I. INTRODUCTION Today it is generally recognized that drugs, along with organized crime that comes with it, jeopardize the development of many resolutions in our world. It is now clear to several organizations that drug control must become an essential element of our joint efforts to achieve peace, security and development. At the same time, we must reinforce our commitment to shared responsibility and the basic principles of health and human rights. The 2011 World Drug Report documents developments in global drug markets and tries to explain the factors that drive them. Its analysis of trends and emerging challenges informs national and international drug and crime priorities and policies, and provides a solid foundation of evidence for counternarcotics interventions. Drug markets and drug use patterns change rapidly, so measures to stop them must also be quick to adapt. Thus the more comprehensive the drug data we collect and the stronger our capacity to analyze the problem, the better prepared the international community will be to respond to new challenges. Drug use affects not only individual users, but also their families, friends, co-workers and communities. Children whose parents take drugs are themselves at greater risk of drug use and other social problems that harm communities. In some regions, illicit drug use is contributing to the rapid spread of infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis...

...geographical divisions are becoming increasingly irrelevant. Friedman himself is a strong advocate of these changes, calling himself a "free-trader" and a "compassionate flatist," and he criticizes societies that resist these changes. He emphasizes the inevitability of a rapid pace of change and the extent to which emerging abilities of individuals and developing countries are creating many pressures on businesses and individuals in the United States; he has special advice for Americans and for the developing world (but says almost nothing about Europe). Friedman's is a popular work based on much personal research, travel, conversation, and reflection. In his characteristic style, he combines in The World Is Flat conceptual analysis accessible to a broad public with personal anecdotes and opinions. Friedman defines ten "flatteners" that he sees as leveling the global playing field: Archie Weller, “Going Home” Going Home deals with the complexities of the Aboriginal identity in Australia.
