The Yellow Wall Painting Analysis

The top of the armor consists of a helmet vaguely reminiscent of Roman style. A curved metal cap that covers the hair and the back of the head, the helmet is made primarily of metal and has a metal fin at the top. The body armor covers the chest, shoulders, and waist but does not go any further. It seems to be composed of a shiny substance, either horn or leather, covering the chest and chainmail covering the rest, but the actual material of the armor is beyond me. The body armor is mainly yellow and silver. Accompanying the armor is a spear and a round shield with a symbol of the sun painted on it. The armor doesn’t really remind me of anything personal, but it does remind me quite a bit of European design, which is very strange considering this was created in the Philippines. My theory is that people in the Philippines took inspiration from European styles. Regardless, there are still clear Philippine designs in the armor. The shield, in particular, does not seem to …show more content…
One of them, looking distinctly Native American, has his arm draped across the shoulder of the other man. The army uniforms are painted an olive green, and a disturbing-looking mushroom cloud surrounded by black atmosphere is present in the background. A roll of what I suspect is toilet paper sits at the very front of the painting. The mushroom cloud in the background of the painting obviously never existed. There was no atomic bomb dropped on for war purposes after World War Two, and there definitely was no atomic bomb dropped during the Vietnam War. Instead, I believe the mushroom cloud represents the danger of war and especially its destructiveness in an era where weapons have increased exponentially in power. I can sympathize with that a bit, as I’ve also grown tired of seeing interventions in countries around the world, and I’ve long lost the illusions of grandeur I somehow had as a kid of

Milkmaid Analysis Essay

...The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer Johannes Vermeer, is well known for his painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring” which we first see in our textbook. Vermeer is known for his use of contrast, value, space, and color. In his painting,“The Milkmaid” Vermeer uses those 4 elements to depict the painting and show emphasis on the important details within the masterpiece itself. In this essay I will be doing an analysis on Johannes Vermeer’s painting known as “The Milkmaid” to show the elements of art he used to emphasize the qualities of his art. If you look at the painting, the left side of the wall is much darker than the right. You might ask yourself “why is one side darker than the other?” Well, the reason for that is because of contrast; contrast is a drastic difference between such elements as color or value (light/dark). Vermeer uses contrast to create a shadow within the painting itself creating an illusion of the light entering from the window. Not only is contrast present in the wall but also in the teal blue table. If you look at the surface of the tablecloth the table fabric seems to have more of a light contrast, which...

...owner, his strong language ridiculing the owner’s “filthy old place” illustrates at least some mixed feelings on his part. These mixed feelings towards the night café’s owner bleeds through to his painting, which clearly contains a slight tint of yellow and green mixed within the owner’s otherwise white suit. The sharp contrast between the owner’s white suit and the laborers’ dark ensemble accentuates their socioeconomic differences, while the small flashes of yellow and green infused within the...

Jonathan Dedecker Performed Analysis

...Jonathan Dedecker’s created artwork “Unidentified” at the Lawton Gallery consist of wall size murals that cover one large section and two smaller sections. The large section will be discussed in this formal analysis. This portion consists of two separate, side by side, and a vertically view for the viewer. The use of either house or acrylic paint medium was used on the wall surface and added a graphite medium on poster size paper, that is placed on the wall. There is corresponding formal elements and principles relationship. The mural (1) on the left, painted portion’s, line quality has a jagged hard edge, giving movement from one size of the painting to the other side. The hard edge lines much like stairs or buildings repeat under about six times covering little more than half way up. Within each layer, which is the foreground, have a different solid straight from the tube painted color of white, black and the primary colors. A solid black with some transparent areas are in the background, giving the appearance of the night. Just under the mural yellow,...

Analysis of Morisot Versus Caillebotte

...Analysis of Morisot versus Caillebotte Impressionism is an artistic style of painting that originated in France in the 1870s. This style of painting attempts to capture an experience or emotion opposed depicting a scene accurately. Every impressionistic painter has a distinct method of rendering as well as their own distinct set of qualities that reflect the artist themselves. For instance, The Basket Chair by Berthe Morisot and The Orange Trees by Gustave Caillebotte are two impressionist works of art of oils on canvas that contrast in many ways. These two paintings will be compared side by side with an in depth approach comparing the artist’s personal status in society, modernism’s role in the piece, and the execution of composition. Through this process, a better understanding of why the male artist is more effective at this time will be discussed. Firstly, personal status in society accounts for gender and class. The two artist’s social statuses play a major role in relation to their subject matter. For instance, Berthe Morisot was one of the few female painters at this time. As a female during this time, their job is to be in the home with the children. The two impressionistic painters were of middle to upper class, bourgeoisie. Female painters were in small number as they did not share the same freedom men had. Women had to be accompanied by a man or they were thought to be a prostitute. Women had unequal rights. Men were able to be the flanuer, but if women attempted...

It was painted and exhibited in 1826 however its current home is at the Frick Collection in New York. Like many other paintings of the 19th century Romanticism Movement “The Harbor of Dieppe” illustrates a painting of nature and city landscape that is captured in its true existence. In this painting Turner captures an amazing natural phenomena, which is the rising of a powerful sun that embraces together the city of Dieppe. “The Harbor of Dieppe” is an enormous painting, measuring a 68x88 (inches) rectangle. The painting represents a busy French port in the city of Dieppe. Numerous ships are docked along the shore and people represented in the painting are all busy, getting ready to accomplish all of the work that the day light brings. On the right side of the picture plain, there are hundreds of people lined up along the docks. Some can be seen trying to get their goods loaded onto the ship and others trying to get a glance at the merchandises that has arrived from around the world. The two women on the right foreground are working together to bring goods out from the ships and into the city; they seem to be unloading cooking dishes, picture frames and other valuables. A Report on Oscar Edmund Berninghausa’s Painting

...to me What attracted me to this painting by mere looking at it was actually its size and what I thought it represents. By size I mean the visual size of the four outstanding images in the painting. The force of attraction with which the images are featured in the painting seem to draw my feet and eyes closer for a more critical view and my hands for a reach to feel its surface. The size of the frame is pretty large and towering if one faces it. Images in the painting include a beautiful, young lightly made up lady gracefully leaning by a majestic, strong looking, white saddled stallion as if for support. These two figures were standing under a four branched rich green leafy oak tree. A little farther behind them were a high twin- like rocky mountains. I admired the natural and wholesome appearance the painting exudes. The lofty mountains which form the main background of the painting stand imposing over a flowing stream by its foot, and a green valley. They seem to call a viewer’s attention from a distance father away from the woman, horse, maize field, house and tree. I was mostly attracted to the figure of the woman. Her figure to me is an embodiment of gracefulness and tenderness. She radiates strength and confidence. As a woman I took away from the picture a feeling of completeness. The entire landscape of the entire painting looks lively and healthy. Although Edmund uses more of dark colors for the vegetation, his mixture of red, yellow, and a shade of orange on the woman’s...

Art Museum Project

...art, including two pieces by Morris Louis titled Dalet Kaf and Beta Mu. Dalet Kaf is made from acrylic resin (magna) on canvas and takes up the entire wall of which it is hung, as it is about one hundred inches tall and nearly one hundred and fifty inches wide. The wide range of colors which seem to flow from side to side, is what makes this piece so inviting to the eyes. The piece consists of lines of dark borders that are enlightened by bright rays of color, which makes this piece hang ostentatiously drawing the viewer in. The way the bright colors seem to push the dark colors to the outside of the piece creates the illusion of a flower blossoming in the spring, pushing the sun worn pedals outward, displaying a radiant glow from within. Beta Mu, another large painting by Morris Louis that inhabits the entire wall from which it hangs, with an alarming one hundred inch length by over a one hundred and fifty inch width, is almost the opposite of Dalet Kaf. Beta Mu is made up almost entirely of a bare white canvas, aside from thin vertical and horizontal lines that make up the side of the canvas and vary from dark and light hues. What might pique someone’s curiosity in this piece is the way that it is formed completely contradictory of Louis’ other work of art. The large V shaped white capacity that is the focal point of the painting creates a sense of endless space. The lines that vary...

Analyzing Fete Champetre

...Analyzing Fête Champetre In 1730, the painting titled Fête Champetre was created by Jean-Baptiste Pater using the medium of oil on canvas. This work of art depicts the visual elements of color, light, line, composition, and space, all of which correspond to the conventions of its Rococo artistic movement. After Baroque art lost its popularity, it was replaced with Rococo art. The French Monarch named King Louis the XIV, who lived at the Palace of Versailles, was very interested in classical styles and classical conventions before Rococo art became known (Rococo lecture notes). When the king passed away in 1717, the Rococo style came to light. Because his son was too young to rule, a Duke relative took over as the temporary ruler, and moved the aristocracy to Paris, France (Rococo art lecture). By doing so, more French conventions were established and their art moved away from classical styles to the Rococo style. The Rococo style depicts the well-dressed French aristocracy doing leisurely things in a park or country setting, which is known as fête galante (Stokstad, 1141) Color plays a role in this two-dimensional artwork. Like many other Rococo paintings, Fête Champetre shows the use of pastel colors. One of the key Rococo conventions was pastel pinks and greens (Rococo art lecture), which acts as the overall color scheme in this panting, though there are other colors, too. The pastel pinks and greens can be seen in the trees and some of the clothing on the people. Another...

Art Analysis Paper

...Art Analysis Paper The Joan Brown’s “Noel In The Kitchen” is a painting. The medium of this art work is oil on canvas. The technique she used appears to be heavy brush strokes. The size of the painting is very large, approximately 8x5 Ft. It is a representational work, which displays a small child, two dogs and some regular attributes of a household kitchen. The image can be broken down into the few blocks. On the front, there is a little child, assumingly named Noel, reaching the top of the kitchen cabinet. He is surrounded by two dogs, one of them seating and looking away from the boy. Another dog is positioned next to Noel, towering over the child. The second block includes the floor of the room and the kitchen cabinet with dishes on the top. Third part of the image is the wall behind the desk. It appears to be shaded and out of focus. The overall intensity of colors happens to be fading towards the right side of the paining. It gives balance to the image by counterweighing the representative images on the left. The large kitchen cabinet is painted brightly red, immediately focusing viewer’s attention on itself as a center of composition. All figures are placed on the various levels, which provide space effect in relationship to the floor and vertical axis. The floor is painted with clear lines distinction in yellow, black and blue colors. By looking at the painting from some distance, the relationship between shapes is very thin and objects are highly recognizable. However...

...Salvador Dalí is known for his surrealist paintings and his innovative techniques which instills an illusional vision upon his spectators. Two of his paintings that have made an huge impact in mass media and pop culture today are called Old Age, Adolescence, and Infancy (The Three Ages) and the Ecumenical Council. These paintings serve as the epitome of Dali’s career that has allowed him to gain such a high recognition as a surrealist painter and an influential artist. The fine artwork known as Old Age, Adolescence, and Infancy (The Three Ages) was painted by Salvador Dalí using oil on canvas during 1940. The dimensions for this painting measure 19 5/8 by 25 5/8 inches. It seems that Dali uses texture to depict his dreams and subconscious mind. Texture is utilized as an illusionistic form in this painting because of the way the objects and humans form to create spaces. As a surrealist, Dali often used subversive texture in most of his works especially this one. Texture is used to tell a story in this painting while the juxtaposition of the objects, the landscape and the people within the spaces leads the eye to visualize three humanistic faces. It seems that Dali intentionally used subversive texture to allow spectators to engage in his artwork, always making us reconsider our prejudiced world and its ideas. Dali applies value by creating a contrast between light and dark in his painting. Without value it would be hard to understand the emotional stages of this artwork...
