...computers from a company who might not last a year. Jobs needed to change this image. Therefore the “Think Different” campaign was an attempt to change to consumer’s perspective for the company. With the “Think Different” campaign, the writers wanted to remind both their consumers and their staff, how Apple thinks differently, using rhetorical appeals of logos, ethos and pathos. It also symbolized the return of the genius that was removed from the company. Apple had lost the “creative” touch during his absence therefore it was very essential for him to create a campaign that would remind the consumers what Apple brand was all about. Through the campaign they hoped to gain their cool, hip image back. The writers used reasoning (logos), rhetorical appeal to stimulate audience’s common sense, beliefs and values by honoring revolutionary heroes and rationalizing that creative thinking produces positive change. The writer used pre-existing simple facts that drew conclusions in their favor. The visual elements included a set of historical influential people having certain common traits regardless of their diverse impact on the world. A few of the common traits were to disagree with the norms of the time, question the status quo, thinking differently and a strong will to change the world. The message of the piece is to honor those who think differently. Since the people who think differently, like Apple are the ones who change the world. The...

...differences between my sister and me that you could never imagine. We are just so different that if we did not have the same blood, I would think that we were not sisters. We are the total opposite of each other. We are not just different physically; we are also different in personality. We think differently. We have different types of hobbies. We enjoy different things. In other words, we are just two different types of person that apparently do not have anything in common. My sister name is Aracely. She is younger than me by four years. She is white and tall. She is the kind of person that is always in a bad mood. She gets mad really fast and sometimes for nothing. It is lie she is happy being mad. I don’t know why she is like that; to me she is just weird. My sister is the girl that always wants to be alone. She doesn’t care for going out or making plans for the weekend with her friends. She prefers to be in our room alone without being bothered. I am the opposite from her. I am older than her but I actually look younger than her. Physically I’m morena, and short. I am the kind of person that is always happy and laughing about everything. I do not like to be alone; I am not used to it. I’m the kind of person that always wants to go out on the weekends; I’m always making plans for going out, I just can’t survive being at my house a whole weekend without going out. My sister has a lot of different interests. She is the person that loves to spend time on the computer. Her hobbies...

Diversity and Inclusion at Oberlin

...socioeconomically and racially. The town has a large number of very wealthy people living alongside people with average incomes. Although, I moved away when I was only 8 years old, I remember playing in my neighborhood with people whose parents were from different parts of the world and spoke in languages other than English in their homes. This was my start to realizing that people can be different and still be the same. When I moved to Shaker Heights, OH. My parents said they had chosen this town because, it was just like Montclair. The town had lots of old pretty houses with people who looked different from one another from diverse backgrounds - some poor and some rich. It was exactly what they had described to me except for one thing. The people that I met, many seemed to have similar views on politics, racial issues and life. Although they were different, they weren't really. Living in Shaker Heights, they had lost something. My parents said that people in the Midwest were nice people and that everyone was simply trying to get along. I felt like that was not right. Why should I need to give up a portion of who I am to fit in. Although everyone looked and seemed like the people back home, a bunch of them were working to fit in locally. I think a diverse community means that we should celebrate differences and find things in common, not give up those differences trying not to stand out. I am not saying that everyone here is practicing this; but more than I would have expected based...

Control In Wallace's This Is Water

...with yourself. Wallace is trying to bring control to these students he is giving the speech to with the “old fish explaining what water is to you younger fish” (Wallace 1), story because you lose control when you live in the fantasy of you being the “absolute center of the universe” (Wallace 2). How Baldwin tries to get his point across of having control is how he concludes what you can do when there seems to be an unchangeable injustice by giving the options of “the acceptance, totally without rancor..”(Baldwin 64) or “that one must never... accept these injustices as commonplace” (64). Even though they have the same idea of having control when it seems they achieve this through different examples and philosophies in their...

Just Do It

...were buying exercise equipment at high levels and also aerobic had recently been introduced in the society, which caused a general enthusiasm about exercising mostly amongst women. So Nike took advantage of all this and launched this campaign to challenge all kinds of demographic. The "Just Do It" phrase was a wakeup call and criticism to does that did not exercise and was lazy. Target audience The target audience of this campaign is generally people who can actually do fitness or different sports, so the older generation 55-60 and above is not the aimed target audience. The reason for that the older people is not the main target is probably because this generation of people are unhealthy, old and weak as it is. Instead I think that the most important group of people for this campaign to succeed is the younger generation, (16-25). The campaign target younger people who both practice sport as well as those who simply need or wants to be fit. The target audience is those who want to feel hip and usually buys the most modern sports gear. The characters in this campaign tells us that it is not a special sport or activity they are advertising instead it is celebrities of all kinds of sports which almost everyone know about and I would say that especially the young people probably feel more associated to these athletics. Mostly young people have some sort of high performance athletes as role models which can influencing them to buy products they otherwise would not. I think...

Individual Counseling Techniques - Mindfulness Exercises Journal

...Individual Counseling Techniques, Mindfulness Exercises Journal Week of Jan. 25th – 10 minutes observing breathing This was pretty easy to do, just hard to stay awake for! I often use this to fall asleep when I need to relax first. It’s also a part of qigong, so it was sort of hard not to just begin a routine, because I’m used to associating guided meditation with conscious breathing. Sometimes wandering thoughts intruded, but they were not too hard to push away. My place is quiet, so as long as the cat is (He yowls and chases the other cat at inconvenient times.)so it is easy to relax and be uninterrupted. This is also something I have done to try and minimize an asthma attack, though not with meditation as a goal! I guess there were a number of associations that I have which are ingrained, and that was something I had to deliberately redirect to keep the exercise simple. I did notice that when I have more on my mind, that it is harder to make myself be physically still, and my mind is similarly resistant to slowing down. Week of Feb. 1 – progressive relaxation I didn’t really like the speaker, because he sounded fake, like someone narrating a children’s bedtime story. That was one distraction. It required a deliberate effort at non-judgmental observation to get past this, which I suspect the average listener isn’t trained to do. The relaxation was hard to do because I normally feel some degree of physical discomfort throughout the day, and the tensing-relaxing directions...

Discussing Animal Research

...1. Research Question or Problem The purpose of this article was to identify the different arguments made in regards to the use of animals in behavioral and biomedical research and the benefits of facilitating classroom room discussions amongst psychology students concerning this controversial topic. 2. Introduction Herzog H.A, (1990) believed that since the publishing of Singer’s book, Animal Liberations, in 1975, public concern over the ethical treatment of animals has significantly risen (p. 90). According to Rollin (1981, as cited by Harold, 1990) experimental psychology was “the field most consistently guilty of mindless activities that results in great suffering.” This debate has caused psychology students to question the use of animals in behavioral research. According to this article there are three reasons why discussing animal rights is crucial to psychology students. First, students should be conscious of political and social concerns associated with psychology that could have an effect on their lives. Second, animal rights issues raise questions related to psychology such as, “can animals think?” or “What are the essential differences between humans and animals?” Third, the use of animals in laboratory courses has received lots of censure (p. 90). To facilitate students to think about these issues, the author has designed a classroom exercise that has students making decisions about whether or not a series of theoretical proposals, pertaining to animal...

...the larger average shell thickness, the population from 1871, or the population from the 1980s? Answer: The population from the 1980s has the large average shell thickness. [Question 1.2] Which snail population has the larger range of variation in shell thickness? Answer: The snail population from 1871 has the larger range of variation in shell thickness. [Question 1.3] Was Seeley’s prediction correct? In other words, is the average shell thickness and/or the range of variation in thickness different for the 1980s snail population versus the 1871 population? Answer: Seeley’s prediction was correct, because the average shell thickness and the range of variation in thickness are different for the 1980s snail population versus the 1871 population. Exercise 1: A Model of Evolution by Natural Selection [Question 4.1] First, make a prediction. What do you think will happen to the shell thickness distribution in this population of snails as you eat some of them? Answer: We think the average shell thickness will increase. [Question 8.1] Do you notice any differences in the histogram of shell thickness now compared to the staring snail population? If so, explain why this change happened. Answer: The snails with thinnest shells are decreased (almost disappear), and the average shell thickness is higher. Because we have tried to maximize crab happiness score so that the snails with thinnest shells were eaten first, conversely, snails with the thicker shells are harder to...

Learning Journal - Best Books

...Learning Journal Best Books CE The Best Books exercise was consist of two parts. Students formed group of two for this exercise. First portion was to conduct negotiation and the second portion was to calculate points for comparing. We were given two different role information, one for Paige Turner’s Agent and one for Bestbooks. The negotiation between the Agent and Bestbooks was hinged on the 8 points. They included royalties, contract bonus, number of print runs for the book, numer of weeks that Paige has to promote the book, number of books, advance, number of countries where the book will be sold, and the number of bookclubs that will adopt the book. After the negotiation, we calculated points according to the “Confidential Success Table” that was provided. For this exercise, I was Paige Turner’s agent. As we started negotiating, both of us didn’t know where to start. Therefore, we simply decided to negotiate in sequence from royalties to number of bookclubs that will adapt the book. However, we soon realized that it was not going to work that way. Naturally, we started offering deals on several points without telling each other what we were after. I think we both were trying to figure out what each other was focusing on. During this process, we also figured out that we had some common interest on several points. It took us about 25 minutes to complete our negotiation. When we were done with our negotiation, we signed each other’s paper and calculated...
