This is the Night The first moment that caught my attention in the video was the various reasons that people had for wanting to go through the steps of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults in order to become a member of the Catholic Church, and how their mindset changed over the course of the program. These “inquirers” wanted to join the Church mainly because of other family members. I remember one man was joining the RCIA because he told his wife he would do it with her. Another woman decided to join the Church because she didn’t have an answer for her son when he asked, “What religion are we?” The first man, however, was the one that really caught my attention. He started out the program, just participating in order to please his wife. But in the end, he ended up almost breaking down in tears when he finally received the Eucharist for the first time and becoming fully initiated in the Church. What struck me about this man was the way in which the program had such a profound impact on his faith. He came from having close to no faith in God, to having such an excitement to share in the Body of Christ, which is unlike anything I have ever seen or experienced myself. When I receive the Eucharist, I go through the motions of the ritual, but all I really feel is that I have just consumed a piece of bread. I do not feel or understand any sort of deeper understanding within the ritual. For me, all that exists when I receive the Eucharist is what is on the external level. This man on the other hand was able to experience the Eucharist in a way that I have never been able to participate. As I watched, I couldn’t help but feel a little but jealous at the amount of faith he was able to obtain through the RCIA program. Another moment that caught my attention was after the Baptism, when the priest told the elect to leave and change into their Easter attire. After they left the Church, the priest invited the rest of the community to come join him and cleanse themselves in the water. This is perhaps something that is just particular to this Church community, but I really thought that it was an effective way of showing that the entire Church community is involved with the process of initiating the elect. I also feel as though taking a part in the Baptism helps us restate our own baptismal vows and by cleansing ourselves with the baptismal water, we cleanse ourselves of any sins. In my mind, the Church should make this practice of inviting the congregation to join in the waters, a requirement for the sacrament of Baptism. I think the practice does a very good job of showing that the community is actively involved in the process of initiation, and not just witnesses to the event. This video helped me learn that the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is supposed to shape the individual into a true Christian. Prior to watching this movie, I always thought the RCIA was just an informative process where the catechumens were informed of the various beliefs and traditions of the Church, and then taken through the sacraments of initiation. However, the RCIA is more than that. The RCIA program is designed to shape the individual into a complete Christian by leading a life of faith, liturgy, and charity. The RCIA program sets out to change the individual through several stages. The first stage is known as the Precatechumenate stage, or the Period of Evangelization, and is a period for inquiry. This period can last for an indefinite period of time and is when the individual first sets out in conversation and begins to recognize the faith of the Church and the importance of turning from sin and towards Christ. After going through the first stage, the individual declares their desire to respond to God’s call and lead a life of faith, liturgy, and charity. The second stage is the Catechumenate and is a time for the individual to grow and strengthen their faith in God. During this stage the individual learns to live the Christian life, set new priorities, change their previous beliefs and behaviors, and pray to God. After the second stage, the individuals enter a period of purification and enlightenment. During which they prepare for the sacraments of initiation through spiritual reflection, obtain a deeper knowledge of Jesus and his mission, and repent. After completing these steps, the individuals go through the sacraments of initiation and become members of the Catholic Church. The video also helped me understand that the entire Church community, not just the individual, is involved in the process of the RCIA. In the first stage, the Church helps out by informing the individual of any questions they may have, and also providing an explanation of the Bible. The second stage, the Church celebrates the liturgy and presents the Church teachings. And the third stage, the Church prays for the individuals and explains to them the significance of what they are about to experience. One thing that this video helped me grasp about liturgy and sacraments is that everyone in the Church community is always involved. When it comes to the liturgy, it is not just the priest, the choir, and the lectors who are involved in the mass. It is the entire assembly who make the liturgy happen. When it comes to sacraments, it is the same thing. It is not just the priest and the individual that are involved. For instance, in the RCIA, it is not just the priest that initiates you into the Church, but also the entire community that initiates and helps you through the program. After watching this video, I really wish that my Church community could be similar to the one seen in the video. Their experience and participation at liturgy and through the sacraments is unlike anything I’ve ever seen or been able to experience myself. They really do live out the Church teaching that the entire community should be involved in directing and initiating the members in the RCIA.

Disguise Is the Main Precursor to All of the Dramatic Comedy Observed in Twelfth Night. How Far Do You Agree with This?

...Disguise is the main precursor to all of the Dramatic Comedy observed in Twelfth Night. How far do you agree with this? In twelfth night written by Shakespeare there are many elements of comedy. In the play disguise is seen as a crucial element of comedy used by different characters with different purposes. Disguise in the play causes confusion, complications, and Mix-ups. It could be argued that disguise may not be the main reason for all the dramatic comedy. Shakespeare uses a wide range of different styles of comedy which include comic duos, physical Appearances, use of language etc. These also have a big comedic role in twelfth night. In my essay I will be discussing whether disguise is the main precursor or whether there are other elements which are comedic? Firstly Disguise is seen as changing your physical appearance for many reasons. Characters in Twelfth Night have used disguise for their own use such as Viola and Feste. Viola at the beginning of the play is seen to be shipwrecked and is separated from her twin brother Sebastian. In the early 1600 where the play has been set women were not seen as important and they were underestimated because they were seen weaker than men. Viola believes that if she disguises up as a man and asks the man that governs the country Illyria which they have shipwrecked in if she could have a job. The man who owns Illyria is Duke Orsino. “Conceal me what i am and be my aid for such disguise as haply shall i become”. Disguise has been used...

‘the Reichstag Fire Was More Important Than the Night of the Long Knives for Hitler’ How Far Do You Agree with This Statement? Explain Your Answer.

...‘The Reichstag fire was more important than the Night of the Long Knives for Hitler’ How far do you agree with this statement? Explain your answer.  (10)  Both the Reichstag Fire and the Knight of the Long Knives were of great importance to Hitler in hi journey towards his consolidation of power. Whereas one can be seen as the straw on the camels back to Hitler's consolidation, the other can be seen as the framework towards the final triumph. The Reichstag Fire was an important turning point in Hitler’s consolidation of power. This incident brought the Nazis many advantages and some disadvantages. When the police managed to enter the building they found a man named Marinus Van Der Lubbe, who was a Dutch communist. The fact that he was a communist enabled Hitler to use this against the communists and have 4,000 communist leaders imprisoned days before the elections. During this period of terror for Germany the police could do anything, more specifically the Nazi police. Hitler made the most out of this situation; he used the police to intimidate voters and to disrupt communist party meetings. The fact that a communist was found burning the Reichstag building made all of this possible for Hitler, although it has been argued that the Nazis might have started the fire and that Van Der Lubbe was framed for the crime. Shortly afterwards Van Der Lubbe was tried and executed. In addition, it allowed Hitler to persuade Hindenburg to pass the “Enabling Act”, which suspended all...

The setting is one that viewers can relate to and van Gogh´s swirling sky directs the viewer´s eye around the painting, with spacing between the stars and the curving contours creating a dot-to-dot effect. These internal elements ensure fluidity and such contours were important for the artist even though they were becoming less significant for other Impressionists. Thus Starry Night´s composition was distinct from the Impressionist technique of the 19thcentury. The artist was aware that his Starry Night composition was somewhat surreal and stylized and in a letter to his brother he even referred to "exaggerations in terms of composition. " The vivid style chosen by van Gogh was unusual - he chose lines to portray this night scene when silhouettes would have been a more obvious choice. In Starry Night contoured forms are...

Fear In Elie Wiesel's Night

...To many people, night has the connotation of fear. In the night, one’s vision is obscured by the darkness, leaving behind only unease and uncertainty. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, night symbolizes the suffering of Eliezer in the nightmarish Holocaust which he lived through. During the hours of darkness, Eliezer experiences uncertainty in his ever-evolving situation, fear during his sleepless nights, and loss of those that he cares for. During the Holocaust, Jewish people are forced from their homes, forced from camp to camp, and forced to change against their will. Eliezer and his family anticipate their departure from the ghettos into the lethal uncertainty of this war against them. Eliezer’s mother instructs her children to “go to bed early [and] conserve [their] strength… [as] it was to be the last night spent in [their] house” (Wiesel 18). The night is expected to be a time of rest and rejuvenation; however, the nights proceeding a change are stressful and often represent the fleeting moments of security and consistency in their lives. Even when Eliezer spends his last night in Buna, he is fearful. He knows a change is approaching and despite his horrific circumstances, Eliezer knows it...

...This painting is called “Café Terrace at Night” by Vincent Van Gogh. It was created at 1888. This painting has the primary colors of blue, green, and a tiny bit of red. It also has a secondary color of yellow. The painting depicts the analogous colors of blue and yellow. The color temperature in this painting is cool and chill, but at the same time it is warm and cozy. The complementary colors of yellow contrasts with the complementary colors of blue and green. The contrast draws the attention to the focal point which is the café. There are a lot of vertical lines to show the stability of night. There are other buildings in the painting, but the audience’s eyes go toward the café. There are people sitting in the café eating, drinking, and conversing. There are also people in the streets wearing clothes with festive colors. The yellowish white stars in the night sky illuminate the ground. The pavement is reflecting the light of the starry sky and the café. The pavement also has a pattern going on. The light and dark values draw you to the focal point of the Café. I believe this painting has compositional unity, because the elements and principles are organized. The colors of harmonizing blue and the cozy café fits together perfectly. There is nothing out of place in this paining. In my opinion, the tranquil colors of blue of the night sky depict the calmness in the painting. For me, the café is the emphasis in this painting. The painting is mostly in dark and cold colors, but...

The Course of the Empire: Desolation Starry Night is an embodiment of the Post Impressionism period. The rejection of the Impressionists concern with natural lighting and color in favor of an emphasis on abstract qualities or symbols is seen through this piece as Van Gogh uses impasto to create vibrant, glowing stars in the night sky. There is a dynamic energy to this piece seen through the exploding stars in contrast to the quiet, sleeping village. Starry Night was created while Van Gogh was in an Asylum at Saint-Remy, France and was recreated from memory. There is a mixture of imagination and reality throughout the piece. How to Seek Laylatul-Qadar

...Adapted from "The Night Prayers: Qiyam & Tarawih from works by Muhammad Nasir ud- Deen al-Albani (and other scholars)" Compiled by Muhammad al-Jibali Laylat ul-Qadr is the most blessed night. A person who misses it has indeed missed a great amount of good. If a believing person is zealous to obey his Lord and increase the good deeds in his record, he should strive to encounter this night and to pass it in worship and obedience. If this is facilitated for him, all of his previous sins will be forgiven. Praying Qiyaam It is recommended to make a long Qiyaam prayer during the nights on which Laylat ul-Qadr could fall. This is indicated in many hadeeths, such as the following: Abu Tharr (radhiallahu `anhu) relates: "We fasted with Allah's Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) in Ramadaan. He did not lead us (in qiyaam) at all until there were seven (nights of Ramadaan) left. Then he stood with us (that night - in prayer) until one third of the night had passed. He did not pray with us on the sixth. On the fifth night, he prayed with us until half of the night had passed. So we said, 'Allah's Messenger! Wouldn't you pray with us the whole night?' He replied: 'Whoever stands in prayer with the imaam until he (the imaam) concludes the prayer, it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night.'…" [Recorded by Ibn Abi Shaybah, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmithi (who authenticated it), an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, at-Tahawi (in Sharhu Ma`an il-Athar, Ibn Nasr, al-Faryabi, and al-Bayhaqi...

Frost

...Acquainted with the night Have you ever watched a spooky bone chilling movie and had cold chills run down your spine? What about going into a withered old abandoned house by yourself on a stormy night? These are the types of feelings I had while reading “Acquainted with the night” by Robert Frost. In “Acquainted with the night” by Robert Frost he describes himself as being alone, depressed and he has no meaning. Robert may have related this poem to some of the tragedies he had in his life, whether it was the death of this father at an early age or the death of his children, he defiantly was dark and depressed in this poem. The poem starts off by saying “I have been one acquainted with the night”. He uses the word acquainted which means you have met something. So Frost is saying he has met the night which is a weird thing to say. Frost also states he is one, maybe the night and Frost are together or he is one out of others that are acquainted along with the night with him. In the next line Frost says “I have walked out in rain-and back in rain” Frost is saying he had went somewhere and later returned and both times it was raining. Whether it was a quick walk or it had just been raining for however long he was out for. But at the end of the first stanza he says that “I have out walked the furthest city light.” Which means that this was no ordinary short walk he either walked out past the city limits to where there is no light or to another part of the town where there is just...
