...Current Market Conditions Competitive Analysis Principles of Microeconomics / Eco 365 John Bayer May 12, 2014 In today’s society everything we do is pretty much wrapped up in evolving technology as it constantly changes with time. This paper will discuss how Apple’s I Phone affects the demand, supply, and the equilibrium prices within a market. The analysis of its competitors as well as potential buyers along with customer base will be discussed. The cell phone industry is one line of business that will forever stay busy. According to Gartner in 2013 Apple sold 150,785.9 trailing right behind Samsung with 299,794.9. Most individuals have done away with the use of home phone or in other terms land line phones and starting to use cell phones. This has a lot to do with technology advancing. Cell phones are now equipped to be able to do things that you were once only able to do on a computer. They are used more now for business purposes, social networking, gaming and paying bills online. Thirty years ago Apple introduced Macintosh with a promise to put the creative power of technology in everyone’s hands (Apple, 2014) needless to say they have firmly stood behind their word. Apple’s supply and demand is factored by a number of things. When manufacturers introduce items to their customers or target customers it’s based off the demand of the customer which determines the supply that is later produced. When you have a demand in a product like you do with the I Phone, you...

The Self According to Brecht

...survive. He strives to show how it is possible to be moral, however in the struggle for survival within society morality often becomes the victim to what needs to be done. This conflict between morality and necessity is personified in Shen Te and Shui Ta. Shen Te, the good woman of Setzuan, is instinctively kind hearted and incapable of refusing to help anyone in need. In the beginning of the play, despite her poverty she gives up her client for the night in order to board the three Gods that need a place to stay. As a reward for her kindness, the Gods give Shen Te one thousand silver dollars “Isn't it true she might do better if she had more money?" (Brecht 1941) and she uses the money to buy a tobacco shop. She is immediately assailed by some of the townspeople for help, beginning with Mrs. Shin the previous owner of the tobacco shop and then by the elderly couple (who had first boarded her when she arrived in Setzuan) and their extended family who move into the shop. Being overwhelmed, Shen Te withdraws and Shui Ta enters. Shui Ta is able to impose his authority on the parasites that descended upon the tobacco shop in a way that Shen Te could not, “You won’t find Miss Shen Te. She has suspended her hospitable activity for an unlimited period. There are too many of you. She asked me to say: this is a tobacco shop, not a gold mine” (Brecht, 1941). He prepares the shop for business, negotiates an appropriate price for the...

Mark 5, Lord of the Storm

...Tell the story: Mark 5:21-43 Pray Central truth we can learn from today’s story: In moments of desperation: God is there listening and responding even if it’s not on our timetable Let’s look at these two people: Jairus and the nameless woman 1) Jairus’ desperate situation Leader of the synagogue- had declared Jesus to be public enemy #1 So Jairus coming to Jesus shows his desperation- this probably will cost him many of his friends and maybe even his job, but he doesn’t care because his daughter is dying We know from Luke’s account that this girl is his only daughter- she’s 12 years old- so they’ve had 12 years of joy together and her life is about to begin- in this society, 12 was when you might get engaged and should’ve been an exciting time, but she’s sick- she’s dying. She needs Jesus. And so does her father. 2) Woman’s desperate situation Woman is complete opposite of Jairus- she was a social and religious outcast because of a disease- most likely a uterian cyst- that has caused her to bleed for 12 years- so she’s had 12 years of pain and disgrace- in this society, she didn’t have a life because of her illness OT law said she was unclean so that means she couldn’t partake in any religious ceremonies at Jairus’ synagogue. But it also meant that if she was married- she couldn’t have sex with her husband and if she wasn’t married, she probably wasn’t going to get married because she wasn’t supposed to be touched Not just sexually- any touch. That means...

New Urbanism

...because of the way they lend themselves to both oversimplification (unfinished sur faces) and open- ended abstract ion (“Memorabilit y as an Image”), Brutalism is often employed today as nothing more than a vague epithet lobbed at vast expanses of postwar institutional building; its associations with art practice are, more frequently than not, left out entirely. The purpose of dedicating this issue to New Brutalism, then, is both to reconsider its theses and to reevaluate its work and writings, while at the same time amending and supplementing earlier histories of the moment, which have emphasized the pop aspects of the work. 2 In doing so, we hope to recapture something of New Brutalism’s latent critical potential. As Theo Crosby wrote in the January 1955 issue of Architectural Design, New Brutalism positioned itself against the “contemporary”—“its veneer of ‘modern’ 1. Personal Style Inventory

...an extrovert has been a great asset to me at my work at Target. On a normal 8 hour shift I come into contact with well over a hundred guests and will most likely interact with at least 30-40 asking where something is or if we have a particular product. As it is the Christmas season now I need to be extremely helpful with guest as well as be outgoing enough to ask a puzzled looking guest if I can “help them find anything today?” As well as the many guests I help, I have many coworkers; we have many new hired on because of the holidays, and many I don’t know their names. In order to work most efficiently and effectively, I need to introduce myself constantly so there is no confusion with “hey you’s.” Being an extrovert definitely helps with this kind of working environment. Of course, with how many guests and coworkers I come into contact there are plenty who are introverts and slow the process. Although being extroverted has helped me greatly in my retail job, it hasn’t helped me so much in day-to-day talking with people and a lot of sales associates. I know I tend to ramble a lot and when I’m making a purchase I tend to think aloud and give out more information then I really intend or need too. I recently purchased a laptop computer at best buy and the sales associate there had asked me what I would most likely be using it for, and instead of giving him a simple answer I instead told him a story about what kind of computer my friends at work were talking about and whether...

Molecular Gastronomy

...same? Many believe it represents a new culinary genre that those “out there” chefs do. Reactions to this new culinary movement range from enthusiasm, buoyant with foam sauces and bubbling liquid nitrogen, to perplexed looks or mutterings of disapproval. Some people’s understanding about molecular gastronomy appears to be free-form dots scattered over the culinary map, perhaps it’s time to connect those dots. Molecular gastronomy can be defined as the fusion of food science and culinary arts. New technologies and natural texturing agents can now be used to deconstruct any dishes and cocktails, enabling one to serve mojito bubbles and martini bites, as well as balsamic vinegar pearls and chocolate spaghettis. Molecular Gastronomy has become the name of the scientific discipline co-created by Nicholas Kurti and Herve This, based on exploring the science behind traditional cooking methods. Herve This identified five goals of this new science: “(1) to collect and investigate old wives’ tales about cooking; (2) to model and scrutinize existing recipes; (3) to introduce new tools, products, and methods to cooking; (4) to invent new dishes using knowledge from the previous three aims; and (5) to use the appeal of food to promote science.” Molecular gastronomy was born in 1988, when two scientists, Nicholas Kurti and Herve This, decided to investigate culinary transforma¬tions. This described molecular and physical gastronomy as the physics and chemistry behind the preparation of...

The Black Death

...blood. Nurses are madly dashing around from person to person, trying to aid them as much as possible, while our top doctors are desperately racing against time to find some sort of remedy; the hospital is in mass chaos I tell you, mass chaos! I just can’t take it anymore, seeing so many faces that were once smiling and laughing all of twenty-four hours ago to now being masked with such desolate fear and misery. I want to leave this place, just like Dr. Kamish and Dr. Maveroh and about ten more of our staff members that deserted our hospital did. It would be better than hiding in this old closet that I’m in now, which reeks of must and unused cleaning supplies. Although, the stench of dirt and Windex couldn’t possibly smell as bad as the vile odor of the sick and decaying people outside; I don’t want to go out there. I’m petrified. If I go back out there, I could get sick myself, and leave behind my husband and kids. But I can’t stay in here. It’s wrong. I’m going to go out there right now and try to do my best to help the people that have fallen ill during this grave time, the grimmest time of my life. -Sue * * * Dear Journal March 20, 1348 Yesterday at work was one of the most horrifying sights that I have ever had to witness.
