In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch tells this to Jem when he gets angry at Mrs. Dubose for yelling at himself and Scout. My dad told me the same exact thing before every single baseball game I have ever played. He told me “This is a gentleman's game it should be treated as such.” The first time he told me this was after I had gotten hit by a pitch and started yelling at the pitcher
When I finally got to first base and my dad told me “You just be a gentleman, son,” I just shrugged it off. I was not thinking of anything other that how to get at the pitcher. I could not think of anything else. So when I got the sign to steal from my coach, Coach Perry, I just stood there like a bump on a log. Coach Perry gave me the steal sign again, and again, I stayed at first. After that pitch my dad pulled me aside and told me to put my head on straight and watch Coach Perry. This mean that you just control yourself and your emotions. It means, as my mom would tell me, maintain your lane. Take care of yourself; be the most polite you can be. No matter what anyone says or does to you. They are fighting their own battles every day just like you and I are. You have no clue what their battles are; so don't be short with them. Just let it roll off your back and keep moving forward. As my favorite band, the Grateful Dead, would say, “Just keep on truckin’.” This changed my life because, I was always angry at other people for the wrong reasons. I would get mad at people very quickly for the smallest of things. It changed my life for the
