Reflection
This is the first team project in this term and I am a little bit worry because in the last two projects, we do our work by ourselves and this time we have to work with the others. I wonder if I can communicate well and explain my idea clear, as I am international student. Moreover, we have to meet a lot to discuss about our work and I have to manage my time very well. However, finally we have work it out and finish our assignment on time and I am proud of our postcards. It is better to work with the others because your partner can give you command on your work and you can do it better. Moreover, we can choose our work and finish it before next time we meet, which persuade me to finish my homework on time.
In the first part of the assignment, after discussing three pairs of words, we finally decided to choose reality and perception as we have a lot of ideas about it and we choose the object that represent this words and cut it from the magnizine. Then, we choose some of our favorite collage and paste it together. There is a lot of fun as we talk about our ideas and the poster we paste together shows the characters of both of us. I can learn the new idea from Joyce that I have never think about before.
In the individual part, after going to the lecture, I learn about three forms of placing the collage, symmetrical, asymmetrical and radial and I tried to do it on illustrator at home. I chose the radial pattern because it makes the poster look tide and I change the color of it as Joyce told me that there are too many black and white color in my poster and I need to make it colorful, which I think is very useful.
In the postcard design, we did together in the mac lap. First, we did our postcard individually and then we met and exchange ideas and gave commands. We chose some of the collage from others’ poster and add it to our own one. Then we

Reaction Paper: Gone Girl

...Mxxxxxxxx Oxxxxxxx ABMC Gone Girl was a film adaption of Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same title. It is a thrilling mystery about Nick Dunne’s wife, Amy, going missing and the way the events unfolded that results to a flurry of heavy evidences against Nick, how the media works, and a carefully crafted crime. Analyzing it from the attribution theory, when it comes to perception of the action, where the behavior is observed, the case got the attention of the media because Amy was famous for her parents’ children’s book series named Amazing Amy. Nick’s media appearances got the public misinterpreting his socially awkward, wary demeanor. The judgment of intention, the way he hesitantly smiled at the cameras rubbed off the wrong way, that his emotional responses weren’t normal for a man who just declared his wife missing. The media judged this as a telling signs of a sociopath. The attribution of the action, they connected his behavior to a sociopath therefore jumping to the conclusion that Nick might have killed his own wife. Spiral of silence was when he was plotting his next move. Internalizing all the things Amy hurled his way. He didn’t stand up for himself. He just let the media lashed out and tore his name apart. He didn’t protest when he was being called a sociopath, didn’t voice out how hard it was to be constantly hounded by the reporters and photographers. It affected his so much he started to isolate himself from everyone he knows, even his sister. But when he...

Why Is the 2011 Ge Considered to Be a Watershed Election?

...“Why is the 2011 GE considered to be a watershed election?” ForDr. Lee Lai To Nanyang Technological University | | By Ng Wei Qiang U1010722H Word Count: 2805 words (Excluding Cover Page) March 3, 2012 To understand why GE 2011 was considered by many to be a watershed election, we must first take a look at the historical context of Singapore’s political scene which has been dominated by the People’s Action Party (PAP) since its independence in 1966. In fact, from 1966 up to 1981, there was not a single opposition Member of Parliament (MP). Among other reasons, one compelling fact was the boycott of the Barisan Socialis in the 1968 elections, allowing the PAP to sweep the polls, capturing all 58 seats and garnering 84.4% of all votes. Since then, the PAP has not looked back, dominating all Parliamentary General Elections while the opposition has failed to make any significant inroads in the political scene. However, it should be noted that over the years, the PAP has had a few upsets along the way with J. B. Jeyaratnam breaking the PAP’s monopoly of the Parliamentary seats with an unexpected victory in the 1981 Anson by-election. The next 3 elections in 1984, 1988 and 1991 then saw a downward swing in PAP’s popular vote, culminating in the PAP garnering only 61.0% of votes and losing 4 seats in 1991. This was significant in the fact that firstly, it was the lowest percentage of votes garnered by the PAP and secondly, it was the most seats lost to the opposition...

Lim Goh Tong

...(Genting Malaysia 2012). This self-made magnate is no other than Malaysia’s highly praised Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong. Goh Tong’s humble take on life and strong entrepreneurial qualities is the epitome of a true rag to riches story. Today’s his multinational empire is worth at RM $23 billion (AUD $7 billion) as of 31st December 2011, making it one of Malaysia largest and most respectful listed company (Genting Malaysia 2012). Goh Tong’s diverse business empire thrived slowly year by year because he believed in the simple approach of success through determination, perseverance, hard work and self-conviction (Lim 2004). His entrepreneurial qualities bloomed from a tender age of 16 and evidently the qualities became more apparent with age and experience (Lim 2004). His admirable qualities and success prompted Malaysia then Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad to correlate the country’s economic development during the economic boom of Southeast Asia to the success of Goh Tong’s story. Mahathir implied entrepreneurs such as Goh Tong will benefit the country’s economic development and growth in a long run, encouraging more Malaysians to looked up to Goh Tong and his story of success (France-Presse, 2007). Goh Tong’s entrepreneurial qualities are nothing of the extraordinary, they were qualities that many taken for granted when seeking success. Life would have been very different for Goh Tong if he didn’t have the courage to take the big leap of faith to leave his homeland...

In 1986, the Murrell family began Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Arlington, VA, with the mission statement, “We are in the business of selling burgers.” ; simple and to the point (Byrne, 2008). Their beginning philosophy, which still fuels their business today, is to serve simple quality food that will meet the needs of their customers. The focus will not be on fast food but on quality food (“Grand Opening”, 2011). Five Guys’ determination to give fresh quality products has gained them lots of success over the last two decades. The 80/20 beef used in the burgers come from the same vendor that the Murrell family has used since the inception of the business. Entrepreneurial Leadership

...2012 Five Guys Burgers and Fries Restaurant Jerry Murrell and his sons opened Five Guys Burgers and Fries in 1986. Its first store location was in Arlington, Virginia. The whole story started when Jerry Murrell and his wife gave the choice to their four sons even to go to the college or start a business, and the sons choice was to have their own business then they make it grow year after year. Sell a really good, juicy burger on a fresh bun, make perfect French fries and Don’t cut corners, That’s been the business plan that Murrell and his sons follow in their restaurant from their first day. The Five Guys philosophy is that if you're going to sell hamburgers and french fries in a restaurant industry that is crowded with hamburger-french-fries chains, you'd better do hamburgers and french fries better than anyone else. What makes Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant special and different from other fast food restaurants is that their burgers are made to order within a selection of 17 toppings, the buns are not toasted in a bun toaster but it’s toasted on a grill for better taste and the potatoes for the fries are soaked in water so when they are refried the water boils, forcing steam out of the fry, and a seal is formed so that when they get fried a second time, they don’t absorb any oil and they are cooked in peanut oil. Not like most fast food restaurants they serve dehydrated frozen fries that’s because if there’s water in the potato...

Bus 508 Five Guys

...how has a mom and pop organization become so successful in such a short amount of time? What’s the magical secret? Other fast food chains have been around for years and have not risen to success in the short amount of time it took Five Guys to get where they are today. The difference between Five Guys and some of its competitors is the promise to only serve fresh food, nothing is ever frozen. What gives Five Guys the leg up from others in the industry is they do not have to keep remaking themselves, they keep it simple by having the same menu today that they had in 1986 (Kulikowski, 2011). According to Jerry Murrell, the family stuck to their guns and decided to never stray from their original plan, which was to only offer burger and fries, fresh ingredients – never frozen, never have a delivery service, and focus on what’s in front of them which are the customers. Murell’s philosophy is the best salesperson is the customer standing right in front of them, if they are treated right they will go and tell others about their experience (Melnick, 2011). Other burger chains are known for constantly changing their menus, adding new things, making changes to the basics they began with; not Five Guys they remain true to how they first began in 1986....

To see a business progress and be successful there has to be vision, fearlessness, determination, and resources. When these things are in place a dream can become reality. A true entrepreneur knows this and will do what it takes to bring the vision to pass. “Treat that person right, he'll walk out the door and sell for you." This statement embodies the belief and philosophy of Five Guys Burger and Fries owner Jerry Murrell. From the beginning Mr. Murrell wanted the focus of the company to be on producing a quality product and customer satisfaction. In a world where there is a fast food restaurant on every corner, there has to be something to make one establishment stand out from the others.
