Diterlizzi was born in Las Angeles, California on September 6, 1969 to Carole and Tony Diterlizzi. At the age of two his family moved to Southern Florida, where he then spent the rest of his childhood. Diterlizzi said that his greatest supporter has and always will be his mother Carole Diterlizzi. As he grew up his mother would paint murals on the walls of his bedroom and encouraged his to enter both writing and art competitions.
