INTRODUCTORY SUMMARY

In the past two years, our company has consistently missed the release dates for our PBA (printed board assembly) products. These missed releases have resulted in fines to the company, and extreme customer dissatisfaction. We have had to reduce our workforce considerably over the past year, and in the process, we have lost experienced employee talent. Middle management has accepted the challenge to develop a PBA Design to Release Spreadsheet. This spreadsheet process will assist our Research and Development organization in achieving the company’s goal to honor its contractual obligations to customers. Since budget cuts are in place, the spreadsheet will be developed based on existing resources and work force. We must view this as a “process improvement” effort. The current process has groups working serially. This causes bottlenecks. If one group misses their date, it creates a chain reaction of missed dates through the other groups. Currently we are not tracking any of the obstacles that can occur during the design phase. By using the spreadsheet, all participants will have an opportunity to log their input, and flag any concerns. The spreadsheet will contain the following items:
• PBA requirements
• Task Definitions
• Time to complete
• Issues/Comments
• Release Date

CREATE A CORE TEAM

The Core Team will be comprised of one member from each group. Each group will select an individual to represent them in a Team Lead capacity on the Core Team. Assignment of an arbitrator will be necessary to make a judgement if deadlocks occur. The Core Team will consist of Team Leads from the following groups:
• Electrical Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Test Engineering
• Physical Design
• PIE Product Introduction Engineering
• Documentation Control

The term predictive policing is the name given to “any policing strategy or tactic that develops and uses information and advanced analysis to inform forward-thinking crime prevention”.
