People have different views about public transport. In this report the authors will compare the views on public transport between 0 ELICOS students and Australians. 1.1. Background - Regarding the selection of public transport of Australian, the survey have shown that the rate of using public transport increases significantly between 2006 and 2011 while train occupy the highest with 6.3%, bus and tram with 3.5% and 0.6% respectively in 2011. However, the proportion of using private vehicle is higher than public transport in Australia (Australia- method of travel to work, n, d). According to the survey Australian Bureau of Statistics (2009). We want to know why people choice public transport. 51% of people think that public transport is convenient/ less stressful/ reduce travel time. 21 % of people have no private form of transport, 12% of people think cheaper than own transport, 10% of the people because the public transport services near home, and nearly 5% people think environment/ weather/ other. Our research find figure shows the frequency of people who use public transport. The most figures of three to seven days a week is 35%. Although Chapter 5 primarily focuses on urbanization in the 1800’s of the United States, urbanization has also produced a multicultural connection of businesses. Urbanization in the United States has been shaped by immigration, and urban transportation. Roughly forty million immigrants settled in the U.S. between 1800’s and 1900’s. The increasing number of factories created an intense need for labour, providing opportunities for immigrants to work. Opportunities can be defined differently though because immigrants had worked in harsh and unlivable conditions due to their ethnicity. Nevertheless, population churning and immigration transformed United States from an agrarian to an urban nation. ...With the different types of transportation at our disposal, has become much easier and faster. There are different choices for traveling to a place far away from my home like traveling by train, car, or taking a bus, each having both advantages and disadvantages. Given the choice, I always prefer to travel by train especially if it is an overnight journey. Trains are easily the most comfortable way to travel. One has the option of travelling in air-conditioned coaches either first class, 2 –tier or 3 –tier. At night there is hardly any scope of getting amazing views en route and a good night sleep gives a refreshing start to the onward journey. Passengers are provided with clean bed-rolls for the night to tuck yourself in. The ride is very smooth and not bumpy as in case of buses due to the poor condition of roads. Trains rarely suffer from weather delays and does not give a jet lag. You can talk to your companions, read a book, or have a snooze. Indian Railways is pretty well connected and major cities are serviced by at least one railway line, along with countless local and commuter services. Trains offers plenty of legroom, no restrictions on the use of electronic devices, generous free baggage allowances, and a dining car serving freshly-prepared meals. ...A project that is now sure to change the existing state of transport in the capital, Delhi Metro is not a new or even recent idea for Indians. In fact, the idea was brought into consideration about some fifty years back, but the bureaucratic red-Taoism made it to take such a long period to come into reality. However, on December 26, 2002, the people of Delhi got the first ride in this much-awaited dream train. Delhi Metro’s first phase has been completed. And, with this, the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) can claim to provide transport to two million passengers every day with a train at every third minute. In its first phase, the Delhi Metro is operational between Sahara and Ties Hazard stations with four other stations in between. The Metro is on, and the people are happy with the service it is rendering. After all, now they have an alternate to the suffocating packed blue line buses and the inadequate service of the DTC – run CNG buses. With the Metro option, the passengers are not only saved from the inconvenience of the road transport, but they also experience a world class service at very affordable fares. It is really pleasing to note that a passenger can reach from Ties Hazard to Sahara in just fourteen minutes by spending as much money as he would spend through a bus. Thus the speed planned at 80 kmph shall be restricted immensely. 7. One of the worst impacts is uprooting of 948 trees out of existing 1950 trees of several generations. 8. ...Impact of the West London Tram on West Ealing A submission to Transport for London from West Ealing Neighbours Introduction West Ealing Neighbours is a newly formed residents group for the West Ealing area. Its draws its membership from people who live and work in West Ealing along with some who make regular use of the shops and other facilities in the area. We had our inaugural public meeting in April that was attended by over 70 members of the public. At this meeting our primary topic was the impact of the tram in West Ealing. Our aim was to provide a forum for local people to hear at first hand the arguments for and against the proposed tram. Many concerns about the effect of the tram on West Ealing were raised at this meeting. At the end of the meeting we asked for a show of hands about taking the step of talking to TfL about these concerns. The show of hands was overwhelmingly in favour of West Ealing Neighbours raising these concerns with TfL. With this mandate in mind, we have produced this short paper outlining the concerns of West Ealing Neighbours and other members of the public who attended our meeting. It seems as if a machine that is run off electricity and can get through a mile in a little more than a minute was established not to long ago, but the streetcar has actually been around since the late 1890’s. But some fear that the sleek trains will be unaffordable for the vast majority of city dwellers, where 77 per cent of the population lives on less than 20 rupees (S$ 0.45) a day. Mumbai - based civil engineer Sudhir Badami, said that the metro transport system might be viable to some extent in big cities, but certainly not in smaller cities. They are already struggling to find money to provide their basic facilities such as piped drinking water, sanitation, education and health care. Others also think that building a metro network takes too long and is too disruptive. In contrast a bus system can be put in place within a year with minimal disturbance. They also believed a well – planned bus system can carry 30,000 commuters an hour. It is the same number as a metro rail system. In contrast, the director of urban development ministry in New Delhi, Prakash Singh said that buses are not feasible in some cities. He thought that cities needs additional land to widen existing roads and create a dedicated bus corridor.
