Transitional Jobs and their Role to Fresh Graduates
After a person is done with their university studies, a well paying job is always a mirage. It always seems like a persons’ dream job is always near yet so far. The illusion of a dream job is almost inevitable. This is attributed mainly, due to the fact that our parents always tell us that only by going to school and getting a proper education can we be able to earn a shilling. However, in my view, this is a very misguided opinion. It makes a fresh graduate have a very utopic idea about life. With the increase in population, jobs have become scarce. In particular professional jobs have become almost extinct. The average age of retirement in Kenya was recently increased; in my view, this has made access to jobs by fresh graduates very impossible.
However, fresh graduates do not have to rely on job searches –professional job searches- in order to earn that illusive extra shilling. Someone can be very surprised that I actually said that. But wait a minute I explain myself more clearly. When it comes to earning a living, a job is a job. That is why transitional jobs are very handy to a fresh graduate. One has to come to terms with the idea that it may take time to land a professional job. Transitional jobs do not make a person any less professional, in fact they broaden ones ideas on other areas that they are not familiar with. They lessen the load of thoughts that bombard a fresh graduate on how they are going to earn some money. Money is important; it helps us maintain a lifestyle that a person is used to. On a lighter note, it actually helps a gentleman afford to take his lady on a decent treat. Surely can a fresh graduate fail to earn some money only because the source of the money is from a transitional job? I honestly do not think

Elie Wiesel's Night: Social Injustice

...What would you do if you did not have food to feed yourself and your family? Everyday thousands of innocent people would not only lack food but clothing, clean water and much more. These people are willing to harm or even kill others to meet their needs ignoring the wounded. Iraq

...To be successful in Iraq, and in any war for that matter, our use of force must be tied to a political objective more complete than the ouster of a regime. To date, that has not happened in Iraq. It is time it did. In the past week the situation in Iraq has taken a dramatic turn for the worse. While we may have differed on how we went to war, Americans of all political persuasions are united in our determination to succeed. The extremists attacking our forces should know they will not succeed in dividing America, or in sapping American resolve, or in forcing the premature withdrawal of U.S. troops. Our country is committed to help the Iraqis build a stable, peaceful and pluralistic society. No matter who is elected president in November, we will persevere in that mission. But to maximize our chances for success, and to minimize the risk of failure, we must make full use of the assets we have. If our military commanders request more troops, we should deploy them. Progress is not possible in Iraq if people lack the security to go about the business of daily life. Yet the military alone cannot win the peace in Iraq. We need a political strategy that will work. Over the past year the Bush administration has advanced several plans for a transition to democratic rule in Iraq. Each of those plans, after proving to be unworkable, was abandoned. The administration has set a date (June 30) for returning authority to an Iraqi entity to run the country, but there is no...

Irregular Warfare

...An Irregular Warfare Strategy for Somalia Staff Sergeant Ondrae L. Meyers Enlisted Professional Military Education- Career Course 9 June 2014 In Somalia there is a constant battle that the country faces with a terroristic organization called Al Shabaab. Within these battles they do not use conventional warfare. The Al Shabaab do not have the support of the people and rule by commanding obedience through fear. In a conventional war military forces attempt to achieve strategic objectives against a recognized state. Irregular Warfare is when adversaries seek to isolate themselves from their external supporters and undermine their opponent’s legitimacy and credibility. Irregular Warfare is defined by the Department of Defense Directive 3000.07, (December 2008), as “A violent struggle among state and non-state actors for legitimacy and influence over the relevant population(s). Irregular warfare favors indirect and asymmetric approaches, though it may employ the full range of military and other capacities, in order to erode an adversary’s power, influence, and will.” There are specific applications of “keys to success”, in order to carry out the Irregular Warfare campaign. The two applications are unity of success and understanding the operational environment. Irregular Warfare is defined by Thomas Edward Lawrence, better known as ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, as “Granted mobility, security (in the form of denying targets to the enemy), time, and doctrine (the idea to convert every...

...occurred? | My co-worker thought that I was trying to take over as the representative of his student. | How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? | The misunderstanding could have been avoided if the co-worker would have called me back before going to his supervisor. | In this situation, I was the one who made the first mistake; that being that I didn’t put my notes into our database when my student referred her husband as a possible student. My student’s husband then called the next day and spoke with my co-worker, Michael, who took all of his information and enrolled him. I received a phone call from my student the next asking why I had told her one thing and Michael had told her husband another. With Michael being new to the job, I thought he made a simple mistake, so I called and left him a voicemail suggesting that we talk about the students to make sure that we were on the same page in what we were telling our students. I then wrote my supervisor an email telling him what I did and said. Michael, upon hearing the message, went to his supervisor because he had the impression that I was trying to take his student from him. His supervisor went to mine asking what was going on. My supervisor explained everything and the matter was resolved. As a result, both the students did not complete the enrollment process or start school. Is Managing Role Ambiguity the Number One Challenge Facing Employers in the Silicon Age?

...director. The participant group was asked to self-report on perceptions of role ambiguity, experienced levels of anger, anxiety and workplace threat appraisal. In this study, participants were asked questions as to whether they fully understood what was expected of them at work on a day-to-day basis regarding particular tasks, or a range of tasks. This data was then compared with responses to questions which probed whether they had felt anxious or angry at work. Threat appraisal was determined by whether the respondent felt it was more or less likely that their work day was going to be a negative experience for them. Dr Searle’s study found statistically significant correlations between a lack of clarity an individual has regarding their job requirements and reported feelings of anger, anxiety and their threat appraisal. These findings reinforce earlier research conducted by Robert Pearsall from the University of Maryland which demonstrated that these increases in anxiety, anger and threat appraisal can...

As indicated by both articles that the tough economic times that lead to significant changes within the workplace, has contributed to the increased in stress factors among workers and greatly affect businesses. One major stress factor stemmed from the economic crisis is uncertainty or the fear for the lost of job. The American Psychological Association explains that bankruptcies are among the list of things that caused hundreds of thousands of workers their jobs.
