Like this quote, Jim Hawkins changes from a poltroon to an adventurous living soul. Heroism is the discovery of the true meaning of responsibility. Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island, a book that shows how the death of those close to him, the fear of dieing, and relationships with his mother and buccaneers ameliorated and matured Jim Hawkins. The death of people close to Jim advanced his survival skills and made Jim more of an extrovert. For example, Jim’s father’s departure from earth not only made Jim heartbroken, but it made Jim even more depressed toward Billy Bones’ death (Stevenson 16, 18). ...I have wondered before if I will have the chance to see the real beauty of life that I can’t find here in the busy city. But at last, after almost two hours of travel, I have seen what I am looking for; the clean river, the cold breeze, the leafy trees and the welcoming smiles of the Bago tribe, such an amazing treasures behind the mountains. Maybe it is the treasure in the end of every rainbow I see. For the pot of gold lie in the hearts of the tribe, their culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of the people. Despite of the developing municipality of Suyo, their culture remained; it is not damaged by the changes. They made sure that their culture will not die by letting the children learn in mind and heart their wonderful culture. The smiles in faces of the children showed that they really love what they are learning. It is soothing to the ears to hear their angelic voices; their ethnic dances made me forget the contemporary dances and how they beat their bamboo instruments made me feel the magic of nature. Even if I cannot understand what they are singing, I felt that they sing to show how proud they are to be part of the Bago tribe and to be thankful of all the blessings that God had given them. They gave thanks that day through a ritual, and a pig was butchered that I think is a sign of their respect and belief to the Lord. The hunt for treasure on Oak Island has been going on for over two hundred years. In 1795, evidence of digging was first found by 3 young men. First they hit a platform of old Oak logs. At 93 feet they hit something hard-possibly a treasure chest. The next morning the shaft was found flooded with sixty feet of water. The miners dug 110 feet down. It was only 2 feet from the pit when tones of water burst through. In 1849 they recovered several links of gold chain. While the drilling was going on, someone noticed that the water in the pit was salty and rose and fell with the tide. So the men went in search of hidden inlet of the sea and they found tones of coconut fiber and eel grass on a stone floor which acts as a sponge to soak up and filter.
