I have chosen to research and discuss Nicki Minaj’s life resulting from her courageous effort to remain on her path to fame and success. Additionally, I have chosen her because of the inspiration she has provided to many individuals including myself. Ms. Minaj spreads confidence, strength and perseverance in any situation or event, revealing that I, too, have these same qualities and can succeed in anything I set out to do. This paper discusses various points during the life of a beloved and famous singer. Onika Tanya Maraj mostly known by her stage name Nicki Minaj, was born on December 8, 1982 in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, New York. She is a famous singer, song writer, rapper and actress. Nicki Minaj is known as the Queen of hip hop and one of the most famous rappers today. The amazing singer released her first album called Pink Friday in 2010. One of the most popular songs in the album was called Super Bass, which became her signature song (A&E Television Network, 2015). Nicki Minaj initially was discovered around 2007-2009 after releasing three mixtapes which then became noticed by Young Money Entertainment in 2009. Since then Nicki’s music made number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with songs like ‘Starships’, ‘Anaconda’ and ‘The Night Is Still Young’. “She has won four American Music Awards, eight BET Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, two MTV Europe Music Award, five Billboard Music Awards and Billboard Women in Music 2011 Rising Star award” (A&E Television Network, 2015, n.p). The five questions I have decided to ask are followed by the answer that was provided by the individual. They are as follows: Nicki Minaj, it is said that you are currently involved in a relationship with rapper Robert Rihmeek Williams also known as Meek Mill. How would you describe your relationship with him? “We’re just super compatible and we just be having fun together” (Markman, 2015, n.p.). What are your future plans with Cash Money Records and Young Money Entertainment? Do you think that you will leave Cash Money Records? “I don’t think it’ll ever get to that point. First of all, people know I love Wayne and I have loyalty towards him, but I love Baby, too. I mean, I’m very close with Baby. I don’t think people know that. So I’m banking on the fact that they’re going to work this out like family. They’ve gone through things before just like family does, and it is what it is, they’re gonna get through it. I’m not even gonna think that way” (Silva, 2010, n.p.). How do you feel about your first album? “It’s amazing. Honestly, sometimes I get tired of some of the songs because they have been with me for so long but overall I never imagined that it would be something that I would cherish so much and be so proud of” (Silva, 2010, n.p.). Why do you wear pink lipstick more than any other color? “Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m inspired by color and everyone knows I love pink” (Silva, 2010, n.p.). What inspires your dress style? “When I’m just at home or in the studio, I’d rather be chill. I like to dress down on my personal time but when it’s time to go out it’s on. I do like a pop of color” (Silva, 2010, n.p.). In conclusion, I believe Nicki Minaj is the most talented female rapper in the world and no one will ever forget that.
