It is difficult to assess the contribution of each factor independently. The key to successful banking lays in the ability of balance many activities simultaneously. The bank must maintain a healthy growth rate, while at the same time it must take action to minimize the risks it faces. The bank must also maintain enough cash on hand to meet obligations. Has Banking Deregulation Contributed to the Current Economic Crisis and If so How? Can Advertising (or) Marketing (or) Public Relations Help Restore Trust in the Banks?

...(or) public relations help restore trust in the banks? Most of the world has been affected by what has been called the global recession. Banking deregulation is undeniably the main cause of the financial crisis. This essay is going to demonstrate why this is by covering key events, which have lead to the crisis, and highlighting some possible marketing solutions to the trust issue that has resulted from it. The Great Depression in the 1930s provoked the US government to introduce new regulations in order to reform banks and ensure that there would never be another crisis of its type again. These reforms came under the name of the banking act of 1933, commonly referred to as the Glass-Steagle act. Crucially most of the new laws meant that retail and investment banks were to be kept separate and investments could not be made if a return was unlikely. However, over 50 years later these laws became more relaxed as the banks were always pushing to be privatized, as they knew they would be able to make more money (Robert Weissman, 2009). It was then believed that the financial world had changed so much since the Great Depression that the regulatory rules were outdated and that the banks would be able to manage themselves, the decision was also influenced by $300 million of lobbying (PBS, 2003). The Glass-Steagle act was revoked in 1999 by president Clinton, this removed the separation that existed between Wall Street retail banks and investment banks and meant there was a great deal...

Loyalty In Ron Rash's The Trusty

...exception. The main point of "The Trusty" is the title character, Sinkler, on a chain gang in Depression North Carolina for "thinking a bank manager wouldn't notice his teller slipping a few bills in his pocket" (69). Sinkler's problem is how to escape from the chain gang and enlist an 18-year-old farm wife, Lucy, in his venture. By the end of the story, the tables have turned from wondering if Sinkler is going to take advantage of the woman, to wondering if maybe she has her own plan up her sleeve. This short story offers some nice opportunities to consider whom we trust, how we gain trust, and misplaced trust. Sinkler, the trusty, is in charge of fetching water from local wells; consequently, he does not wear restraints of any kind and is free to wander unsupervised for longer...

Therefore, Company Q is not showing an obligation to their stakeholders; particularly the customers and employees. A socioeconomic approach to social responsibility is an approach that does not just focus on the profits but on the benefits that the business can offer to the community. Company Q would need to adopt this socioeconomic approach if they wanted to improve their reputation. Company Q needs to have more involvement with the community, build employee trust and work on customer satisfaction. To begin, Company Q needs to improve their social responsibility by improving employee trust. Company Q needs to build a trusting work environment for their employees. Est1 Task 1

...Company Q as a small company in a large metropolis seems at this point focused more on attempting to regain profit and sustainability versus social responsibility. This seems more apparent in that they closed stores in high crime areas because of financial loss versus evaluating the local demand and perhaps changing their business model to be a more conducive fit for the local area. They also have issue with believing that their employee base would be more inclined to deceive the company and steal its product than trust that with proper training and support, that they could as well be a contributing portion of the community. Finally they make a small attempt at trying to appeal to the community by providing a very limited amount of specialized food products at the request of the customer base, however it seems likely that this was only made viable as there is a large margin of return on the organic, healthy choice food items. This request was fulfilled after years of requests. The choice for Company Q to close up stores in high crime areas due to loss of income or profit becomes a social liability due to fact it give the appearance that the company does not concern itself about the community that they had hoped to profit from. To begin with, high crime areas are typically also low income or no income areas. Creating opportunity for individuals to earn a legitimate income as well as create a chance for community pride to develop. By focusing recruiting the workforce from the...

Trust

...A/B Trusts An A/B Trust is any type of trust that splits into two separate and distinct trusts upon the death of the grantor. One of the separate and distinct trusts is a Credit Shelter Trust, which is designed to hold as much of the grantor's property as is sheltered from the federal estate tax by virtue of the unified credit; i.e., $2,000,000 for decedent's dying in years 2006, 2007, and 2008, and $3,500,000 for decedent's dying in the year 2009. The other separate and distinct trust is a Marital Trust, which is designed to hold the remainder of the decedent's property, which is sheltered from the federal estate tax by virtue of the unlimited marital deduction. These separate and distinct trusts are designed to eliminate or reduce the federal estate tax liability of a married couple over the deaths of both spouses. An A/B Trust arrangement can be created under a living trust or a testamentary trust, since these provisions do not take effect until after the grantor's death. See "Credit Shelter Trusts" and "Marital Trusts." See also "Family Trusts" and "By-Pass Trusts." Trust Concept Analysis

...Trust: A Concept Analysis The term trust encompasses a wide array of meaning. It can be regarded both as a logical and an emotional act. Trust can be defined as having utter belief in the reliability, ability or truth of any person or thing; it is a state where the acceptance of truth even without evidence or investigations becomes possible (Oxford University Press, 2013). However, according to Merriam-Webster (2013) trust is defined as a guaranteed reliance on the strength, character or the character of any entity. Trust is an utterly important concept, even when considering it from the perspective of the nurse management. As mentioned earlier, trust has an element of emotion and logic in it. It is considered logical where a person perceives the potential gains or losses of putting their reliance on someone, calculating the possible satisfaction derived out of putting their trust into them and only after carefully analyzing all these aspects, then deciding whether or not to trust someone. However, it can be referred as emotional when any entity exposes themselves to others, hoping that rather than taking advantage of their situation, the others would tend to understand their situation and support them open heatedly. There are various dimensions to trust, some of which could be defined under the terms of predictability, delayed reciprocity, value exchange and exposed vulnerabilities. Human beings have a knack of forecasting for their future and in doing so, it is imperative...

Antitrust Law

...Antitrust law is the law of competition, and it is perhaps the least understood law of all. This article provides an overview and explanation of the essential principals of antitrust law, along with comments on certain recurring themes and recent developments in the voluminous case law by which the courts have struggled to give meaning and practical effect to the principal antitrust statutes. What Is Antitrust Law? Broadly speaking, antitrust laws seek to promote fair competition on the merits and to protect consumers and wronged competitor businesses from anti-competitive business practices — practices undertaken in effort to undermine competitive commercial behavior in a given market or line of commerce. The antitrust laws therefore forbid the wrongful acquisition or preservation of monopoly power, the abuse of monopoly power in order to establish a new monopoly, and concerted restraints of trade (i.e., business practices undertaken by two or more firms that improperly stifle or suppress “competition on the merits” in a given market). They also govern proposed mergers and acquisitions that are sufficiently large to constitute a threat to competition, and they address commercial practices that pose an arguable danger to competition on the merits in a properly defined antitrust market. The Principal Antitrust Offenses. Antitrust law is the law of competition. It is concerned with wrongs committed against competition on the merits in a given line of commerce or market. It is...
