Introduction
I wanted to see if positive incentives could help with improving reading time in graduate students. I myself plan to apply for graduate school after I graduate UHD in the fall. I felt that this study would not only be beneficial for me when I go of to graduate school but for other individuals seeking higher education. Since I am fully online student and do not interact with people other then my co-workers and my family I used my sister as the volunteer for this experiment. My sister is currently working on her doctorial dissertation, in library sciences. She has already figured out what she is basing her research in but she is having issues focusing and staying motivated while doing her work. She received a full-ride, which allows …show more content…
Procedure: To improve my sisters reading time towards her doctorate I used an interrupted time series. The first two days I used to gather data about her current reading schedule to see how much work she would do or did not do through out the day. I used this as a gauge or baseline to see if incentives would cause and improvement. For the next three days I provided and incentive such as us watching a new movie in her favorite genre (horror), or T.V. show once she was finished spending time reading research for her dissertation. I used my phone as a stopwatch to clock how many hours she would spend reading before we began watching a movie. I set my cut off at three and a half to 4 hours if she did not text or call me …show more content…
The first day it was about 3 hours before I called her to watch a show together.
Treatment Day 2: The second day she spent a total of four hours of uninterrupted time reading towards her thesis which led her to get a portion of her dissertation done. After the four hours, I gave her a call so we could watch another horror movie via facetime.
Treatment Day 3: The last day I also stated I would read and work on homework assignments as well during before we began to watch and episode of one of our favorite TV shows scandal. The show as well as me doing my own form of reading for class incentivized her to read continuously again for four hours.
Conclusion
She has done an incredible job of keeping on top of reading research and writing her dissertation. I am super proud and excited for all the work she has done thus far. Based on my experiment I have found that positive reinforcement does have positive effects on reading. Not only did positive reinforcement improve the time she spent researching it doubled the amount of effort she put into finishing her work exponentially. Which will lead her to be either on or ahead of finishing her

...BA 3301 Legal Environment of Business Compliance Interview and Report Assignment Associate Professor Lee Usnick, JD I. ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW Virtually all business activities conducted in the United States are highly regulated, not only by governmental entities, but by professional entities as well. Compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations is a prerequisite to the long term health and survival of a business. Equally important is a business's compliance with standards issued by the professional and accrediting bodies responsible for licensing and certification. Certain industries are more regulated than others. For example, health care, financial services, and public utilities are all highly regulated with extensive licensing and operational standards. When a business fails to comply with all applicable regulations and standards, the business and the individuals who manage it can face a variety of sanctions, from loss of license and program certification, to civil and criminal sanctions that include monetary penalties and prison. In this assignment, you will learn how someone in your selected industry meets the challenges of current compliance requirements. It is not necessary to address all aspects of compliance in this industry or selected company.
