Once a crazy child, and onto being an Olympian, Louie Zamperini went through it all. As a child, Louie was devious and rebellious. He smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol, however as young Louie matured, he stopped doing bad things and began running. The older Louie became, the better he became at running, and before he knew it, he was off to the Olympics.“Unbroken” written by Laura Hillenbrand, demonstrates how resilient and determined Louie was through his actions throughout his lifetime. In Tokyo, Louie was asked by a radio company to talk on the radio, but then they asked if he would read a note they would hurt the US’s moral so Louie refused and offer. “Louie was dumped and Omori. The Bird was waiting for him, glowing with fresh hatred. His beatings resumed ”(191) The text showed how Louie was not going to betray the US, and missed out on getting good food and a place to stay. He also came back to an angered Bird that was ready to beat. Another quote from the “Unbroken” and how Louie is resilient is, “Time ticked Louie remained, the over his head, his eyes on the Bird's face. The Bird not laughing anymore” This quote shows how Louie is resilient by lifting the beam over his head, and showing that he isn't going to quit. The last quote that shows how Louie is resilient is, “When two-year-old Louie was sick with pneumonia, he climbed out his bedroom window, descended one story, and went on a naked dash through town with a policeman chasing him.”(6,7) The quote tells us about young Louie and how he was even resilient at a young age.
