Unit 2 M1 Explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of John Lewis

Human Resources – Human Resources is concerned with the issues of managing people in the organisation. There has been evidence to show that employee commitment can be affected by different factors. These could be things such as job satisfaction, recognition and appreciation from managers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_resources Employee satisfaction is able to be broken down to feelings which are associated with salary, work environment and the training which are on offer which can assist in both professional and personal growth.

Finding the right staff to work in John Lewis/Waitrose is important because without the right people important decisions which need to be made in a business may not be made. The methods used to recruit staff are through newspapers, advertisement, word of mouth and careers fair. These are all traditional methods. Due to people using technology more there are also internet based methods such as online application forms, emails, web advertisement and web page pop ups. This helps improve the performance of John Lewis as most of people are beginning to use the internet meaning it is easier for them to recruit new staff quickly and effectively. On the other hand if John Lewis train people well and then retain their staff they will then not have to spend as much money on training to staff as they will be able to lean from employees who have experience.

Recruiting people to work online can be a lot faster than previous methods which are used. This is beneficial as employers will be able to monitor how many people have gone on to the website and looked at the job. John Lewis can see how many of these people will then apply for the job to determine whether this method is the best way for encouraging people
