In this task I am going to evaluate the effectiveness of using techniques in the marketing products for my selected business. The business that I am focusing on will be Debenhams as I have been using this throughout the tasks.
These are the techniques that I am going to be using to help explain the effectiveness when Debenhams uses these strategies.
Branding
Debenhams is a valued company which has remained valued for 25 – 30 years which has a revenue of £2.3 million. However because of other retailers and department stores Debenhams is dropping its value as their customers are now buying things which are related to technology as the technology is growing and becoming more accessible for all people. Because of the increased accessibility to the internet, the company is able to make even more money as the customer’s can do their shopping from their own home. For this reason, they will advertise their online website and phone and tablet apps so that people who own those devices can download and support the brand by buying their items online.
I think that the branding of a business is very important as the brand is what attracts the customer and gains recognition for the company. Furthermore, because the brand is trusted it has a very high revenue, this can be due to the company making sure that they keep their customers interested so that they repeat purchases.
Survival Strategies
Survival strategies is a very important growth strategy as if there is ever a recession and the businesses are not performing as well as they should be. Companies such as Debenhams should make sure that they have a strategy to survive and be in a good enough position when customers can start to afford to buy products from them again. D1 – Make recommendations in relation to identified hazards to minimise the risk to the service user group The first hazard that I will be assessing is the wooden structure that I spotted in the Blended Learning Centre in the Breakspeare Building. As a group we gave the structure a severity of 3 and a likelihood of 3, of which, the overall risk rating was 9. With this structure, I was convinced that the severity of an accident, should it occur should be at least a 4 because it was quite a big structure; the damage it could inflict was a lot. My team members stated that since it was in a secluded corner of the Blended Centre, no one was exposed to that much risk as hardly anyone would go to that part if they see that it is obstructed by the structure. However, I still maintained that there is always the possibility that the structure could impale an individual, even though it remains in the secluded area. In addition, the way that the structure is set up on a work space that students use proves that it breaks a number of health and safety policies because for a student to work efficiently and to feel safe in their working environment, all items that could prove to cause harm to them, such as this wooden structure, must be removed to allow a safe working place.
