In this assignment im going to evaluate the approraiteness of two sets of business information used by BBC to make strategic decisions, and how it helps the bbc to make strategic decisions about how to improve their operations.
Annual Report 2013/14

In the BBC website they have a page of informations about the income and operation cost of both of the years of 2013/14. This is suitable for people in the the company and outside the company. The advantages of using this information is that It helps the people in the company because it shows how they lost and gained their money during the years in the company and they will know how the improve the year after. Also it has an easy access because is open to everyone 24/7. Another advantage it could be that the budgets reveal how much room the company has to spend on introduction of products, developing marketing campaigns or expanding the company. On the other hand one disadvantage of using financial statements for decision making is that the data and figures are based on the market at that given time which it was 2013/14. Depending on the market, it could change quickly, so managers should not assume that the numbers from a previous financial statement will stay the same, increase or decrease. So for example if BBC made £5,066 of total income in 2014 it does not mean it would be the same or it would increase. Another disadvantage is that it doesn’t show the previous income and operating cost, so you won’t know if the improved the cost. Concluding this I think this information is appropriate for making strategic decisions because it helps BBC to show how much money they would use during the year.

In the BBC web-site they have a careers page which provides you with all the vacancy in the company all around the world. They made this to suit to the general public for example a unisex colour and also they have an vacancy search this makes it easier to define your search; furthermore they have people latest tweets this would get more young adults attention. This will make the company make strategic decisions by knowing how many people apply online and it would also save time. Other advantages about this information is that you can gather information easier because you have a lot of people CV around and When your looking for candidates, the manager is able to perform detailed searches of collected resumes, using a variety of queries, including location, level of education, years of professional experience and technical skill set. In addition, the software also allows current employees to electronically apply for new positions. The disadvantages of this type of information is that people would have to know how to use the internet which not a lot of people know how to use it. This wouldn’t really help the company make strategic decisions because talented people could have a chance to work but they wouldn’t know how to apply.
