Scope and Purpose
Best practices are used to sustain value as well as compliance within the building. They are followed by the team members as well as the executives. During the last surprise assessment that was conducted in October of 2012 by the best practice team from headquarters we were non compliant on five questions out of twenty. “Compliance is a state in which an organization is either following a set of established guidelines or laws, or is in the process of becoming so. Many customers highly regard companies which comply with certain regulations” ("The Best Practice Network Guidelines | The Best Practice Network," n.d.). The compliancy of these questions is detrimental to the building, and if caught being non compliant by OSHA and/or the FDA we risk the chance of the distribution center being shut down until further notice. This would affect hundreds of jobs, the community, as well as the customer supplier relationships we have built over the years making this issue extremely crucial. We, as a department, building, team, and as executives must take action now to ensure that we are compliant at all times.
Stakeholders
In order to increase the team member morale as well as their engagement within the building the warehousing executives decided to utilize the team member liaisons to carry out this procedure. The team member liaisons are a group of team members who a designated to audit these questions once weekly. They have been chosen though an application process, due to their tenure, knowledge, ability to communicate effectively, and their unique drive for results. These qualities will be used to ensure that the building is compliant at all times.
In the distribution center we pride ourselves on the hard work and devotion of our team

Is the Placement of the Products Going to Influence Their Price?

...Is the placement of the products going to influence their price? Minjun Yu ECON 4980 Introduction In today’s commodity economy, it is no longer only about manufacturing, transportation, cost, profit, supply, demand, etc. There are many other factors that matters in the sales of the commodity. For many years, retailers have been searching for methods to help them identify ways to improve their merchandise presentation (Ron Larson). One of the methods that retailers used to improve the sales is the display of the products in the aisles. Bezawada has said in his reach that “retailers can benefit substantially by having better placement of items in their aisles,” (Ram Bezawada). Bezawada’s research shows that aisle placements can influence sales across product categories as much as other marketing variables, such as price or how an item is displayed (Jacqueline Ghosen, 2009). According to some researches, changing the allocation of the products will increase the weekly sales by more than 9% (Jacqueline Ghosen, 2009). Unit 4

...Assignment Instructions Unit: 4 Instructions: This week's Assignment consists of reading a scenario about Sandwich Blitz, Inc., and responding to four questions. Dalman and Lei have discussed two possible avenues to grow and expand Sandwich Blitz, Inc. One possible strategy would be to franchise locations. Another strategy would be to secure venture capital to finance an internal expansion by opening more company-owned shops. Dalman feels that he just doesn’t have time to investigate these options because he is spending an increasing amount of his time assisting the location managers. Lei noted that two of the location managers had exhibited a lot of skill in the management of their locations and perhaps a new position could be added to coordinate with the location managers. This would free Dalman to work on these larger issues. After reading the scenario above and your assigned readings in the textbook, paying particular attention to the section on authority, respond to the following questions: (Please number your responses 1 – 4 according to the four questions) 1. How would creating a new position between the CEO and the location managers help the business to grow? 2. Is promoting an existing manager the best option to fill this position? If not, what is an alternative source to fill the position? 3. Who within the company should make these decisions? 4. List the levels of authority (management) that Sandwich Blitz, Inc. would have if the new position is created. To help...

Apply the Learning Curve Theory

...CURVE A popular focus of many small businesses, and those looking to start a business, is the bottom line: profitability. The road to profitability involves finding the correct business formula, for the specific business, that will minimize losses and increase sales. The Pizza Store layout simulation, the focus of this paper, requires the user to take a management position and make decisions that impact profitability. As to be expected, making business decisions like this involve a learning curve consisting of repeatedly analyzing decisions. This paper will cover the learning curve theory, the decisions made during the Pizza Store layout simulation, and the best conclusion reached as a result of those decisions. LEARNING CURVE THEORY According to Operations Management for Competitive Advantage, a learning curve is a line displaying the relationship between unit production time and the cumulative number of units produced. Learning curves can be applied to individuals or organizations, but in the Pizza Store layout simulation the learning curve applies to an organization. Additionally, learning curve theory is based on three assumptions: 1. The amount of time required to complete a given task or unit of a product will be less each time the task is undertaken. 2. The unit time will decrease at a decreasing rate. 3. The reduction in time will follow a predictable pattern (Chase, Jacobs, Aquilano, 2006, technical note 4). In particular, the...

Your tutor has also embedded comments [in bold and in brackets] throughout your essay. Thank you for choosing Smarthinking's OWL; best wishes with revising your paper! Hi Denise! My name is Keren H., and I will be reviewing your submission today. Thank you for an interesting piece of research on Background Checks. In today’s review, we will revise sentence structure, word choice, and documentation. Strengths of the essay: Denise, “References” is the correct name for the heading of your page of sources. Good job! Sentence Structure: One or two of your sentences are “run-ons”. This means that two ideas “run on” into each other with no punctuation or links to separate them. Let’s see an example, and discuss how to correct the run-on:  A background check is a must in today’s business world. You never know what you may find on the applicant. What two ideas do you see here? “A background check is a must in today’s business world” is one; the rest makes up another idea. The easiest way to separate two ideas (two main clauses) is to put each in a sentence of its own. What punctuation (such as a capital letter and period) will you add, so that you have TWO sentences instead of the run-on? Visit Run-ons and Comma Splices to find more ways to revise run-ons. Word Choice: Denise, I notice that you use...

Kodak and the Digital Revolution

...9-705-448 REV: NOVEMBER 2, 2005 GIOVANNI GAVETTI REBECCA HENDERSON SIMONA GIORGI Kodak and the Digital Revolution (A) In February 2003, Daniel A. Carp, Kodak’s CEO and chairman, reviewed 2002 sales data with Kodak’s senior executives. Film sales had dropped 5% from 2001 and revenues were down 3%. 2003 did not look any brighter: Carp expected revenues to grow only slightly and net income to remain flat or decrease (see exhibit 1 for information on Kodak’s financial performance and exhibits 2 and 3 for information on sales of cameras and film rolls in the United States). The film industry was “under pressure unlike ever before.” Carp predicted a “fairly long downturn”1 for traditional photography sales as consumers turned to digital cameras, which did not require film. Kodak was moving more of its manufacturing to China, where it could boost film sales, and was planning to slash 2,200 jobs, or 3% of its work force, especially in the photo-finishing business. Carp had received a master’s in business from MIT. He had begun his career at Kodak in 1970 as a statistical analyst. Since then, he had held a variety of positions at Kodak. In 1997, he became president and COO, and was appointed CEO on January 1, 2000. He believed Kodak’s current struggle was one of the toughest it had faced. How could he use digital imaging to revitalize Kodak? Kodak, 1880-1983: A brief history In 1880, George Eastman invented and patented a dry-plate formula and a machine for preparing large...
