Pros And Cons Of The United States Postal Service

...Should Be Reconstructed Should the United States Postal Service be reconstructed? The answer is yes because people are emailing rather than buying a stamp and envelope to send hand-written documents. The two main issues that I am going to set forth in this prompt are the mail agency facing staggering catastrophe and people emailing to meet their needs. The only way out of this hole is to reconstruct the antiquated United States Postal Service, it’s time for a change. First to begin with let’s start with the mail agency facing staggering catastrophe. Each day people in all corners of the country count on timely delivery of letters, bills, medicine, and election ballots. Now that everyone is starting to email for cheaper cost the postal service has experienced a thirteen percent drop in mail volume this past year. More than double of any previous decline, with a loss of $3.8 billion. Saturday delivery times for letters and packages, higher postage stamp prices that exceed the rate of inflation is a potential for future layoffs and an even bigger drop in mail volume. Taking away Saturday mail would save $40 billion...

...The United States Postal Service (USPS) is one of the cheapest ways to send mail to anyplace in the country. The United States Postal Service was established by the constitution, and Congress was given the power to establish Post Offices and Post Roads. The United States Postal Service has run into a few issues in the past few years which is causing them to lose more and more money. In today's society, the younger generations are probably going to start using it a lot more than what they do now and it is the only main organization that everybody knows since they were a little kid. They are an incredible company that delivers mail to every single person in the world they just need a little tweaking to get going like they were a few years ago. ...Chapter 1 Introduction to Data Communications Outline Introduction Data Communication Networks Network Models Network Standards Future Trends Teaching Notes It is helpful spending some time at the start of the course helping students become familiar with the organizational format of the textbook. A quick overview of the Table of Contents and some comments on each chapter helps to establish the beginning, conclusion and terrain of the course. This is also a natural time to review the syllabus and talk about expectations. The text is well organized with an outline preceding each Chapter and good summaries at the conclusions. Teaching which follows these outlines and concentrates on the summary information is particularly effective. Students should also be advised about the online resources that are available to supplement the text. The resources for Instructors are also helpful. The PowerPoint presentation and Web resources can be easily incorporated into class. The testbank is also valuable. Fedex

...FedEx: The World on Time Shipping, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management Indiana Wesleyan University Facilitator FedEx: The World On Time History of FedEx Today FedEx Corporation is the premier provider of shipping and information services worldwide. Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, the company functions under the motto "operate independently, compete collectively and manage collaboratively."(FedEx.com, 2011) By operating independently, each company can focus exclusively on delivering the best service for its specific market. In 1965, Yale University undergraduate Frederick W. Smith wrote a term paper about the passenger route systems used by most airfreight shippers, which he viewed as economically inadequate. (FedEx.com, 2011) Smith wrote of the need for shippers to have a system designed specifically for airfreight that could accommodate time-sensitive shipments such as medicines, computer parts and electronics. In August of 1971 following a stint in the military, Smith bought controlling interest in Arkansas Aviation Sales, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. Smith identified the tremendous difficulty in getting packages and other airfreight delivered within one to two days. This dilemma motivated him to do the necessary research for resolving the inefficient distribution system. Thus, the idea for Federal Express was born: a company that revolutionized global business practices and now defines speed and reliability. Federal Express was so-named due to the...

While the measures of success remain the same, the marketing landscape has changed beyond recognition, with enormous challenges to establishing any customer relationship at all, much less advocacy. Marketers can’t simply tack on the internet to the TV, print, radio, and outdoor options available in the Mad Men era. ...FedEx Corporation Strategic Audit May 14, 2004 MGMT 449 Prepared by: Clement Chen Lisa Duong Hideo Yang Marny Susanty Mario Vellandi Andrea Betro Forward: This company for this case analysis was chosen by me, Mario Vellandi. I found FedEx interesting because they are one of the top four logistics companies in the world with 2002 group revenues of $24.2 billion. Since I was studying the transport industry, I found them to be an excellent company to analyze while in Strategic Management. Research Process To prepare for this case, I had performed primarily all the research for this case. This process involved first going to the firm’s SEC filings on its website, then downloading the .rtf version of its 2003 10-K, and the following 10-Qs and pre-announcements. After having read and highlighted some 65 pages and notating applicable data for each section of the strategic audit, I copied the data into individual Word documents titled after each respective category. I also utilized company info from the investors section of its site. Next I used the standard and news search functions of Google, among other sites, by combing the term fedex with a combination of various business terms such as competition, weaknesses, swot analysis, and commercials. I had also used combinations with competitors’ names and specific business functions. Next, I had used the advanced features to limit my searches in two ways: by data type, and by domain extension. I found relevant existing secondary...

Biographical Analysis

...State versus Private Ownership Andrei Shleifer Department of Economics Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts. Abstract Private ownership should generally be preferred to public ownership when the incentives to innovate and to contain costs must be strong. In essence, this is the case for capitalism over socialism, explaining the "dynamic vitality" of free enterprise. The great economists of the 1930s and 1940s failed to see the dangers of socialism in part because they focused on the role of prices under socialism and capitalism, and ignored the enormous importance of ownership as the source of capitalist incentives to innovate. Moreover, many of the concerns that private firms fail to address “social goals” can be addressed through government contracting and regulation, without resort to government ownership. The case for private provision only becomes stronger when competition between suppliers, reputational mechanisms, the possibility of provision by private not-for-profit firms, as well as political patronage and corruption, are brought into play. 1 What kinds of goods and services should be provided by government employees as opposed to private firms? Should government workers make steel and cars in government-owned factories? Should teachers and doctors be publicly employed or should they work for private schools and practices? Should garbage be picked up by civil servants or employees of private garbage haulers? Should the whole economy be "socialized"? Although...

Subjects were interviewed at their place of residence by a consultant psychiatrist familiar with their culture and language. The Hindi translation of the community version of the Geriatric Mental State schedule (GMS-A) was also administered. Psychiatrist's ICD-9 diagnosis was compared with GMS±AGECAT computerized diagnosis. We found low-level agreement in dementia cases (kappa 0.33) whereas the agreement in subjects with depression was high (kappa 0.81). In many subjects GMS-A made a diagnosis of dementia not diagnosed as cases by the psychiatrist, who had the bene®t of additional history information from carers in this population from a di€erent culture and educational background. These ®ndings are discussed along with suggestions and present limitations of GMS-A in the diagnosis of dementia in cross-cultural research.
