Whether or not one past outweighs the other is a personal opinion, but the only way to make an informed decision is to know the facts from both sides of the argument. Gathering Information and Writing a Research Paper

...Gathering Information and Writing a Research Paper Writing a research paper for the first time can be a difficult task if not given the proper instruction to complete such an assignment. Breaking a research paper down into separate tasks and sections might ease frustrations for the researcher and give them some fundamental tools for future research projects. A good question to ask your self is “Where do I begin my research?” Some students that are tasked with writing a research paper for the first time might struggle with the topic that they will choose depending on the writing assignment given to them by the instructor. Generally, one main topic can be concentrated on is based off of a research question the student must be able to answer or expound upon described in the course syllabus. Within the syllabus the instructor should have provided several topics to begin the research. Also the instructor should point out what format he or she is requiring, according to a rubric within the syllabus, to be turned in such as APA, MLA or Chicago. Once an individual has selected a topic that he or she would like to discuss, it’s time to begin looking for the facts. There are numerous resources at your disposal when you conduct your research such as the library, The Internet, and. You have to decide which source is likely to be most useful to you. For example, if you are searching for information on a historical event the library is an reliable place to find a book that...

...Possible Term Paper Topics and Instructions You will research, prepare, and write a 10-15 page term paper for this class. You have two choices as to how you can approach this paper: Track A and Track B. Regardless of which “track” you choose, the same general guidelines and expectations apply to all papers. The topics listed below do not define the entire universe of subjects available to you. If you have another idea for a paper topic, check it out with me. Once you select a topic, and I would suggest that this be done promptly, stop by my office to discuss your research endeavor. Track A: Issue-centered paper. Those choosing this track will research and write a paper on a specific issue of constitutional law. The paper will focus on the Court’s treatment of an issue and competing perspectives on it (both on and off the Court), and provide an evaluation and critique of those perspectives. It will culminate in a defense of its own thesis. Possible topics include: • The history, functions, and uses of one of the various “technical barriers” • Scope and limits of the presidential power to pardon • Federalism as a value in the Warren and post-Warren Supreme Court • Federalism as a constitutional concept in the Rehnquist Court • How far did the Rehnquist Revolution in federalism go? • The constitutional status of the War Powers Act (1973) • The concept of Executive Privilege • Are there limits to the...

Research Plan

...Research Plan As part of your research plan, you must first draft a research question for your research paper that will guide the rest of your writing. A research question, which is more specific and focused than a general topic, is the question that your research paper will be answering. For example, if your general area of interest is social security, a possible research question might ask “How can low-income families save more money if the United States had a reformed social security plan that includes personal retirement accounts?” As you develop a research question, keep in mind that you will need to research sources to support your topic. Do not pick a one-sided question that will limit your research. Instead, develop a research question that lends itself to further exploration and debate—a question for which you genuinely want to know the answer. Try to pick a research question that is neither too broad, which covers too much, or too narrow, which covers too little. It should be broad enough to be discussed in a short research paper. What is your general topic or area of interest? My general topic is “Recycling”, which is one topic from the list provided in the syllabus. Recycling is an important part of my life, because I care deeply about our environment. I was taught to recycle at a young age, and was somewhat shocked to see how careless consumers are here in the United States, and the “throw-away” mentality most consumers have. What is it about your general...

Drug Trafficking

...Drug Trafficking Methamphetamine in the United States Jessica Block Eng 122 Paul Wiltz October 15th, 2012 Drug Trafficking Methamphetamine in the United States I decided to do my research paper on drug trafficking methamphetamine in the United States. I chose this topic for two reasons, one because I have had a history of drug trafficking methamphetamines myself and another reason is because I am currently working on my BA in applied behavioral science to further my career in substance abuse counseling. A little bit about methamphetamines being transported from Mexico to the United States is DEA (drug enforcement administration) is trying to put a stop to Americans transporting drugs from Mexico to the United States. And with the DEA doing this Americans think that it would be safer to make methamphetamines in their own homes instead of taking the chance transporting the drugs from one state to another. So I plan on doing my research paper along the lines of the DEA cracking down on Americans transporting methamphetamines and Americans making or “cooking” methamphetamines in their homes, otherwise known as “meth labs”. My hypothesis is that Mexico is the major supplier to the United States for methamphetamines and many Americans are going to Mexico to get methamphetamines and transporting the drugs back to their city to distribute the drug to make money. After doing some research on the topic I found that “DEA has concluded that Mexico has become...

If it wasn’t, well – this entire article probably wouldn’t exist. This manual, however, can turn mandatory writing into an exciting venture! Instead of drudging through a lame history paper, make your history topic exciting. Have you ever thought of these following topics for a history paper? How did Neo-Nazism evolve in America? What was Britain’s view of India during British rule? What were the views on PTSD during different United States wars? What is the ongoing affect of the New Deal? What is the ongoing affect of the Civil Rights movement? What were the factors in the China-Tibet conflict? What were the little-know conservative U.S. movements? Any of them sound exciting? They should be! Research papers are trying, but they also have the ability to be very rewarding. Think about it. A simple psychology paper has the opportunity to be… All about the concept of sexuality. An insightful view into the medical uses of hypnotism. A study of the validity of positive thinking strategies. A look into the use of Pavlov’s conditioning in children. A study on the development of memory. A view of home life and its affect on child...
