Usa Today Case Study Swot

...Dubow’s goal for USA Today and commitment to the customer is “getting news and information into the hands of consumers faster than ever before.” This commitment is one that matches the current marketing goal for USA Today which is to be more innovative in order to differentiate its product from competitors. USA Today showed consistency with this goal by showing innovation in the marketing program. USA Today’s marketing program includes online publications, on-demand news and information, and brand extensions and partnerships. These goals are also consistent with customer demand for digital options as technological advances and mobile access increase. Within the national newspaper industry, USA Today still has the largest print circulation and highest volume of newsstand sales in the industry even though the newspaper’s print circulation has declined. However, its digital subscriptions fall significantly behind its major competitors and USA Today is no longer the most widely read newspaper. In regards to printed newspaper circulation, the industry as a whole is experiencing a decline in performance. This is due to decreased revenues, decreased sales and increased costs. Advertising revenues have declined by 51 percent since 2005. Part of a cultural trend, sales of printed newspapers have also decreased as the customer obtains news from other free sources of media. Increased costs of promotion, newsprint expenses, and distribution also decrease profits. USA Today, like...

...HOMELAND SECURITY Terry Davis CJAD 495 Professor R. Moser Introduction Since the birth of this nation, there has been concern for security and freedom of all the citizens of the United States. We have fought wars across our nation, across borders and across the globe, all in the pursuit to protect our freedom and the American way of life. There have been many threats against the American pursuit of freedom that started with the Revolutionary War, a young nation fighting to break away from a nation of strength. Then our battle over land expansion and the taking of the land from the Native Americans, some perceived them as savages or maybe even terrorist. Then we turned to secure our borders to prevent other nations from coming into our nation and grabbing up land. Then our pursuit of freedom expanded the globe and with other nations as we assisted in the attempt to spread democracy in countries struggling to become nations. In this attempt, there have been many enemies formed that despise the US and the pursuit of freedom. This has become a major concern of the US and on September 11, 2001, this concern became a reality. How could something so devastating be carried out against a world-leading nation? What was wrong with the infrastructure and how could it be fixed to prevent other terrorist attacks. The answer was to form a department in the federal government that would have the power to act and the power to share intelligence information. Terrorism and US Threats ...

The Usa Patriot Act--Good or Evil?

...THE USA PATRIOT ACT--GOOD OR EVIL? Abstract Terrorism has been around in one form or another since long before September 11th 2001. It is our extreme reaction to the real threat of a terrorist attack began 9/11/2001. Although the odds of dying from a terrorist attack in America are extremely remote, after the attacks of 9/11/2001 and the overwhelming show of concern by American citizens, Congress hastily put together a bill outlining the workings of the U.S. Patriot Act. The United States Patriot Act of 2001 was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2001. President Barack Obama signed the Patriot Sunsets Extension Act of 2011, which created a 4 year extension of 3 key parts of the Patriot Act. Warrantless searches of business records, roving wiretaps, & conducting surveillance of individuals suspected of terrorist-related activities not linked to any specific organized terrorist groups. The Patriot Act dramatically reduced restrictions on law enforcement agencies' ability to search all records, documents, histories, etc., without the restraints of the normal operations of judicial law which most citizens assume will always protect them. The National and State Governments and their agencies work together to implement the Patriot Act with as minimal an “obvious” intrusion as possible into ours, the American citizens lives. It is obvious the security must be there, but with a minimal amount of perceived disruption to constitutionally given freedoms and rights. US...

Green

...warming a myth or is it reality? According to www.greenpeace.org/usa our world is hotter today than it has been in two thousand years. By relying on oil, coal and gas for our daily needs we are releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. When the gasses are released into the air the earth begins to heat, similar to a car on a hot day. When the earth heats up, the ice caps melt, water levels rise killing off plants, animals lose the food from the plants dying, and humans lose to sources of food plant and animal food. As a human, I think this happens to be a moral issue. Why? Well after plants and animals start to die people lose their main source of nutrition that we need to function properly. We will also lose our homes are the water levels continue to rise. As people we place so much on material items well the earth is our material item and we are not caring for it like we should. I believe every little step counts turning off lights during the day and using the natural light from the sun will help not only our electric bills but also help less carbon dioxide to be released. Driving less will also help put more money into our wallets and use less oil and gas. These steps may seem to little to make a difference but every little step counts. Taking action today will help save our world tomorrow. I believe there should be a common sense solution we are killing off our earth by using too much coal, oil and gas so we should stop. Although...

First Time Home Owners Tax Credit

...First Time Home Owners Tax Credit Laura R. Kohler National American University Everyone dreams of owning their own home at some point in their life. This idea is set into our heads as children. We grow up, get a job, get married, buy a house and start a family. It’s the American dream. What if there was more incentive to buying your first house? Good news, there is. The first time home owners’ tax credit was designed especially for you. That is if you so happened to purchase your home between April 2008 and April 2010. In 2000, the United States economy began to fall. With this fall came the housing market crash. Some say that the housing market has yet to recover. It’s made a big step though. With the big fall in the housing market, Washington got worried and decided to step in to help. In December of 2009 mortgage rates were at a historical low. There were ideas of making a tax credit that would be 10% of the purchase price to help lower mortgage rates for anyone who bought a home. They thought that this would make people jump at the opportunity and finally make that first purchase. Another idea was to help struggling owners lower their mortgage and refinance. The problem with this was finding out who should really be saved. Purchasing is an amazing first step. It’s a great way to start securing a financial future for you and or your spouse and family. The big question is, are you ready? One of the first things that you will need to figure out...

Economics

...1. From the definition of GDP we arrive at the following expression: c + i + g + x-m = y = c + s + t Discuss the three important economic relationships that can be derived from this expression related to the definition of GDP and explain each carefully. The expression above depicts two different ways to come up with real GDP for a country. The left side of the expression explains expenditure side of computing real GDP which can be rewritten as: y = c + i + g +x – m In real terms, it could be said that real output (y) is equal to real aggregate expenditure (c + i + g + x – m). The right side of the equation depicts how to determine real GDP by the total income all people within a certain economy. This equation is written as: y = c + s + t If we combine both equations, we can rewrite the formula for savings (s) in the following two ways: s = i + (g – t) + (x – m) This shows that savings must be matched by the uses of savings, investments, government deficit, and net exports. It also points out the “crowd out” effect where by increased government spending will decrease private investment due to the fact that the amount of savings is fixed. The graph below shows how the aggregate demand curve changes with increase in government spending in the short term and the long term. s – (g – t) = i + (x – m) This equation, derived from calculating GDP, shows how domestic savings, s – (g – t), is balanced by the demand for saving, i + (x – m). It...

Gap Year

...Are Gap Year Programs Beneficial? There is mounting support for the so- called “Gap Year / Bridge Year Programs”. Articles from USA Today reveals the programs are supported by Ivy League Colleges. Among the list is Princeton University, which is the leading supporter, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other prestigious universities which also follow suit. In my opinion, this so-called gap-year is not something that 17 and 18 year old should not participate in. They should be encouraged to continue their education without interruption. I do not favor the idea of a year off (gap-year) from college. My major concerns would be matters of finance, health care, and living conditions. Recently in the year of 2013, USA Today speaks about these programs are preferably for well-to-do students. Their parent(s) may not be able to support the student financially or just chose not to help. Even though it’s their child, normalcy must continue at home. I found no emphasis on how the students would endure financially, although in part some reading did suggest gapers (gap students) received room and board and an hourly salary of just over $6.00. Many of us teach our children how to budget their money based on how we have. Suddenly trying to teach them how to for living abroad is a different animal, knowing how important a financial plan is for self preservation, it is the foundation for organizing you daily life. Getting sick in a region without a solid health care...
