Sports Psychology Pre-Shot Mental Preparation

...am going to be writing about an in-game refocusing routine for a tennis player. I am a track runner and have never played tennis competitively, which is why I am interested in giving the tennis player’s refocusing routine and mental aspect a try from the perspective of a situation where the player is between points in the middle of a game. First, I will explain some of the important principles for a person beginning their training in the mental game. Next, I will go into how it is very important to be “forgetful” in a competition that has downtime, such as tennis with paused gameplay between points. I will then show my mental checklist and end by explaining my pre-shot routine. There a few important principles to take into account when beginning the training of one’s mental game and trying to find success in this mental game. The first principle is to be comfortable being uncomfortable. New ways of thinking acting are always awkward at first. Even bad habits are comfortable things to most people. Negative thinking is comfortable because it is easy to be hard on ourselves. Retraining the body and mind requires discomfort while learning new and better ways of playing. The second principle is to commit to a fair test of time. Success in the mental game will not be overnight. We will make mistakes and learn from them; mistakes are important sources of feedback during the learning process. The benefits we will get from a heightened mental game are not short term, they are seen long...

Simlution

...There’s a burly line between video games and simulations but there are key differences. First off video games are made with entertainment in mind and simulations are made mostly for training. The military has been using simulations to train soldiers for a while and now they are using video games to train soldiers. They are quickly changing the way the Army trains and “On the upside, specialized games and simulators have become cheap and effective virtual training grounds that supplement the usual physical drills.”(Jeremy Hsu 2010). Another key difference is that simulations tend to be more realistic then videogames. The surgery video game Trauma Center for the Wii has graphics that are cartoons like and uses a controller, while the company ENT Simulation Technologies Ltd has an ultra-realistic simulator “The simulator uses a haptic arm, a 3d visor mounted on a stand, and a computer to closely mimic an actual surgical procedure”( ENT SimTech 2010). There are more differences but now I will discuss some video games that are a close to being simulators. Proflight Simulator is a video game that you can play online with others but learn how to fly at the same. It has realistic graphics, real time maps, many different planes to fly and many challenges to complete. I downloaded the demo and it was I was playing a video game instead training a simulator. Another video game that comes to mind is Nintedogs + Cats for the Nintendo DS. First you to choose between a puppy or kitten and...

...time passed but she did not come and I was shocked because it never happened before and what I saw make me astonished that she is completely absorbed in facebook. I guess she has a relation in facebook and it really seems to me ridiculous to wind up with a relation just seeing a profile. One may give wrong information about oneself to attract others. I became concerned if she has a relation and concern if she does something wrong. It is easy to done something wrong because people of this age are easily driven by their whim and curiosity. I discussed it with her .She said nothing and smiled. I also see the same scenario in my friend circle. When my friends are altogether passing time I observe that someone is using facebook, someone is listening music and some are playing game in mobile. I observe they are behaving like unsocial in a social communicating place. Another striking matter is about my brother, who is a student of standard five , is a very inattentive not only in his education but also most other matters except...

Currently, computing games that show violence seem to be increasingly prevalent. For the purpose of this essay, ‘computing games’ can be defined as electronic entertainment that is designed for the society. This essay will argue that computing games showing violence should be censored. The reasons for the argument followed by these points; firstly, sensitivity to culture, secondly, the promoting brutality in behaviour and thoughts and lastly, Inculcation of prejudices on certain groups of people. The country in reference are China, Japan, South Korea, and United States of America (USA). One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest

...There are times when people need to escape from their surroundings and must find a way to ease their mind of worry or panic. It is through this escape that an individual can take their mind off of whatever problem is hurting them. This means that someone can take their mind off of a problem, or get out of a situation that imprisons them. Some ways to escape reality are by altering your state of mind and leaving the problems of the world behind. Drugs and medicine offer a path to a different state of mind where the user doesn't have to think about their problems. Another way to escape is by violently trying to overthrow someone who has imprisoned you. The prisoners of jails around the world have used violence to escape from the people holding them captive. The more people are regulated and controlled, the more they will want to rebel through violence. A third form of escaping can be from a source of entertainment of pleasure. When something extremely admirable is perceived, it can change the mood of whoever it is affecting. If someone is very passionate toward music, they might be able to escape their problems by listening to their favorite song. Other things like games can offer an escape because they take everyone's mind off of their problems and focus them on the game. Escaping is something that people do all the time without even noticing it. When someone feels uncomfortable or troubled they perform some kind of escape to feel better. The theme of escapism appears throughout...

Shark Animal Research Paper

...The animals are ready to burst out of their cages and breathe the fresh air of middle school grounds. Students frantically begin to hush their peers in order to be the first let out. In the jungle, there is always two or three monkeys that decide to create chaos. Among the others they were whispering of games they would play and who was on which team. In Wilson Southern Middle School, those monkeys at recess decided to play a rule-breaking game of shark and minnows. Along with this game, they played a back breaking lunch bag tag, and a risking game of four square. Shark and minnows is known for the velocity in which the enemies (sharks) run to tag their victims (minnows). Similarly, at recess sixth graders play the animal like version of shark and minnows. During this game one amaeture middle schooler starts to attack the “minnows” to draw them into his group of sharks. Meanwhile, the minnows are at a state of every man for themselves. They attempt to dodge the shark’s attempts of tagging them. At the same time, the prey tries to make it to the other side of...

Effect of Video Games on Individuals and Families

...Effects of Video Games on Individuals and Families Clinton C. Hallford Axia College of University of Phoenix Effects of Video Games on Individuals and Families Video games have many different effects on the people who play them. There are good aspects to educational games being developed for business, schools, and even the military. The military uses video games for teaching combat tactics and skills needed by pilots. Drone aircraft are controlled from miles away, in a video game fashion. Piloting these drone aircraft is similar to playing a flight simulator video game. Several businesses and industries have started the use of video games in different aspects to teach team unity, sales and management skills. These educational and training games are being developed with the learning aspect at heart. Schools around the world have started to use different learning video games to keep students involved and motivated about learning. Along with the upside of educational games there is also a downside to video games as well. The downside to video games is the violent content in the games being sold to children. Some of these types of games can pull a child in without them knowing it and in some cases can alter their mindset between right and wrong. When children continuously see the violence of video games it starts to take a hold on the child. Some of these players start to think that the types of things they are exposed to in these video games are alright. Even though...

...Importance of Sports for all The connection between mind and body - the neglect of physical education - sports are the best means of physical development - they in still valuable qualities - the duke of Wellington's remark. 'A sound mind in a sound body' is an expression so familiar and so often quoted that its meaning is likely to have lost something of its edge and appeal. Yet it expresses a profound truth and formulates an ideal which every individual should set before himself. The body is the temple of the mind and is intimately connected with it. Bodily ailments stunt the growth of the mind, just as mental maladies affect the health of the body. The education that is imparted in our schools and colleges is mainly intellectual. It is true that every school and college has a playground and offers facilities for sports like cricket and football. But participation in games is not compulsory and little account is taken of it while awarding certificates and degrees. Besides, there is acute shortage of playgrounds in large cities. Our educationists should realise the organic connection between mind and body, and pay more attention and importance to the physical training of the young. Outdoor games like hockey, football, basket ball and tennis are the best means of ensuring physical health and development. They have several advantages over other forms of exercise. They provide not only exercise for the body but recreation for the mind. Exercising one's limbs at home or in gymnasium-calls...

Mental Imagery Experiment

...Eric Bell Keoni McHone PE-270-01 31 May 2014 Discussion Assignment My experiment was the use of mental toughness in my golf game through the use of mental imagery. My hypothesis is to lower the score on my golf game with the use of mental imagery and toughness. Sports psychology is just mere helping people to clear away the mental clutter that keeps them from achieving their best. As a golfer I have tried to break ninety strokes in golf, but did not succeed until taking this class and started using mental imagery. Before this class I tried to improve my game by buying expensive equipment such as oversized irons, gizmos, and lucky charms, but none of these worked. Once I started working with the techniques from this class I began to liberate my mind from its usual patterns and after a period of mental exercising, I finally broke 90. The mind is a tool like any other skill a player possesses. But it's often the tool most of us neglect to develop. Once the mind is in peace, our performance progresses. I believe I set unreachable standards in my game before this class and become overly disappointed when my performance did not meet those high marks I set, thus resulting in motivational withdrawal. After taking this class I realized why I took up golf the first place, it was for pleasure, and for the physical and mental benefits, and then it will become easier to achieve my goals. One of the biggest interventions with the great results I got was the use of the techniques from...

...humor and games. Fueling standout games, such as Grim Fandango, Brutal Legend, and Full Throttle, with humor, Schafer provides a significant bonus for the player, rewarding them with hilarious cutscenes and dialogue after completing a challenging task. This humor-induced gameplay is reiterated in Schafer’s cult classic, Pyschonauts. Produced by Majesco and developed by Double Fine Productions, Schafer’s Pyschonauts is a 3-D action-adventure platformer that tells the story of Razputin “Raz” Aquato, an ambitious, young boy with psychic powers and pair of trusty goggles. Recently escaping from his family circus, Raz sneaks into a “top-secret,” summer camp used to train fledgling, psychic children to master their powers and eventually become “psychonauts,” specialized agents who use their psychic powers to fight evil. Attempting to absorb as much knowledge as he can in the little time before his father arrives to take him home, Raz soon discovers that evil and deception are afoot at Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp and he must use his newly acclaimed psychic powers to save the day. To teach and entertain the player, Schafer manipulates particular designing attributes to enhance the experience of Pyschonauts: game goals, key features, target audience, game structure, main characters, and art direction. Game goals are the purpose of a game. What is the player meant to complete or accomplish? What is the player meant to learn? In Psychonauts, the ultimate goal of the game is to progress...
