Using Qualitative Research to Improve Tissue Viability Care
This study was conducted to show how key qualitative studies investigating patient experiences can act as an indicator of quality and guide healthcare professionals in service development and evaluation in tissue viability. The study shows how leg ulcerations affect individuals’ quality of life. Consent was sought from participants as they were asked to complete a questionnaire before and after each procedure during the study.
The participants seemed to have voluntarily participated in the study as they voluntarily answered the questionnaires as requested. The world class commission’s approval was obtained prior to the study. The major variables were pain and the patients’ perception of and response to pain. Analgesia and patient’ response to same, patient’s tolerance and non tolerance to therapy and reasons for same, patient’s opinions on quality of life with leg ulcer and coping with ulcer odor.
The data was collected using questionnaires before and after each procedure and this was used to demonstrate the role of the intervention in any changes that occurred during the study. It was a way of the commissioners benchmarking services and judging the quality of care provided. A time period was not identified for the length of study. Patients were asked questions at the beginning and at the end of the study to see if the results were still the same, different or improved. The questionnaires were kept and analyzed at the end of the study. The researchers revisited previous qualitative studies to draw on patient feedback previously against present day in order to develop services and decide outcome measures in tissue viability.
Different practitioners were sent to different patients

Compression Bandages

...Abstract: Aim: To search and critically review research literature, concerning management and technique of compression bandaging. Background: Compression bandaging is required for venous leg ulcers, which is due to damage and loss of skin above the ankle that is the result of a problem with the veins in the leg. Although leg ulcers are not a life-threatening condition, it can have considerable effects, not only on health, but also on the quality of life, self-esteem and healthcare cost. Method: Extended literature review, to extrapolate best available evidence, in order to address the focus question. Computerised and manual searches of previous literature were used; refining searches by means of constantly re-evaluating inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Eight (8) articles were decided upon, seven (7) of which were quantitative and one (1) which was qualitative in design. Two main themes emerged from these articles, that of management strategies for leg ulcers and technique of applying compression bandages. Recommendations: Episodes of venous ulceration can be reduced with management strategies, such as graduated compression therapy with comprehensive technique. However, without further education for nurses and patients towards compression therapy, venous ulceration will prolong and management strategies will fail. Conclusion: Knowledge of compression bandaging technique needs to be increased through further training/education. ...

The following study is based on 26 utilities which burn coal, have a generating capacity of at least 50 Megawatts (MW) and whose Flue Gas Desulfurization devices have been operating for at least 5 years. An analysis is made of the capital and annual costs of these systems using a comparison of four main processes: lime, limestone, dual alkali and sodium carbonate scrubbing. The functional analysis, based on operability, allows a readjustment of the annual costs and a determination of the main reasons for failure. Finally four detailed case studies are analyzed and show the evolution of cost and operability along the years. ...plastic bags requires millions of gallons of petroleum that could be used for transportation or heating. Consider a Personal Ban on Plastic Bags Some businesses have stopped offering their customers plastic bags, and many communities are either considering a ban on plastic bags or have already implemented one. Meanwhile, here are a couple of things you can do to help: Switch to reusable shopping bags. Reusable shopping bags made from renewable materials conserve resources by replacing paper and plastic bags. Reusable bags are convenient and come in a variety of sizes, styles and materials. When not in use, some reusable bags can be rolled or folded small enough to fit easily into a pocket. Recycle your plastic bags. If you do end up using plastic bags now and then, be sure to recycle them. Many grocery stores now collect plastic bags for recycling. If yours doesn't, check with your community recycling program to learn how to recycle plastic bags in your area. ---______________________________________________________________________________________________- REPUBLIC ACT 9003 January 26, 2001 AN ACT PROVIDING FOR AN ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, CREATING THE NECESSARY INSTITUTIONAL MECHANISMS AND INCENTIVES, DECLARING CERTAIN ACTS PROHIBITED AND PROVIDING PENALTIES, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representative of...

We stand both before and after, balancing on the razor edge of the Event Horizon of the Singularity. That this sublime juxtapositional tautology has gone unnoticed until now is itself remarkable. We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them.
