„Anna” 1930.gads
Laikmetīgās pilsētnieces Annas tēls kļuvis par simbolu visai latviešu 30.gadu glezniecībai. Gleznota ar eļļas krāsām.
Anna ir attēlota līdz ceļiem. Jaunā sieviete brīvi atspiedusies pret palodzi, ar nedaudz noliektu galvu, šķiet ieslīgusi pārdomās. Šaurā seja, ko ieskauj kuplie tumšie mati, palikusi ēnā.

„Klusā daba” 1924.gads
Klusās dabas, kuras vieno brāzmains otas raksts un atraisītu nejaušību efekts, sniedza iespēju Valdemāram Tonei atbrīvoties no ikdienas, ļaujot nedomāt, bet intuitīvi apkopot krāsu laukumus, triepienus un gaismēnu kontrastus.

Listening

...ear and keep quiet, respect the one who is talking. In respecting the speaker, his mannerisms or habits and his and your differences in language should also be taken note of. Also, an open mind is also considered- accept the ideas and opinions of the speaker. The receiver should also focus and concentrate in what is being said to be able to fully and correctly understand the message to be conveyed. Another requirement is the simple responses all throughout the listening process. Simply nodding and maintaining eye contact will give the speaker an easier way to let all his thoughts out. Avoiding distractions or barriers is also a help in having successful listening. Also affecting the listening process are non-verbal symbols like the volume, tone, pitch and intonation of the speaker. The body language, such as facial expressions and eye contact, can also affect the listening process, therefore should also be considered. Lastly, the most important thing is to listen to the message’s essence and meaning, understand it, and don’t just listen to the words coming out from the speaker. 2. Five listening barriers and its corresponding solutions: a. Distractions- The noise around and the different thoughts inside the receiver’s head will lessen the possibility of understanding the message being delivered. Improving focus and attention, being aware and paying more attention to the speaker will mitigate this issue. b. Culture and beliefs- Having strong conviction about points of view...

Workout Statistics

...Feel the burn Which workout is best for you? Andy Darling is your guide Saturday 15 January 2005 The Guardian 1: Jogging/running The simplest yet most effective exercise in terms of caloric expenditure, because it's an entirely weightbearing activity, requiring greater energy output than if you were seated or supported by water. Softer surfaces require harder work and result in still higher caloric expenditure. Great for fat burning, and for the cardiovascular system (heart and lungs). Not so good in terms of muscle toning and flexibility. Can cause too much stress on knee joints, particularly on uphill runs. Calories burned in 30 minutes: Approximately 340 jogging, 560+ running 2: Pilates Created in the mid-20th century by Joseph Pilates, it uses mat and machine work to develop body awareness. It also teaches you how to use muscles more efficiently, bringing together strength and flexibility, two factors that don't always sit easily together. Great for instilling a sense of "how to move" and to hold oneself . Not so good in terms of calories burned. Calories burned in 30 minutes: Approximately 140 3: Indoor rowing An integral training aid for the multi-medalling GB water rowing crews, the Concept2 ergometer - "erg" for short - has given rise to a sport in its own right, with competitions around the world. Some come to it because their days of weight-bearing activity (ie running) are over, others use it for cross-training, burning nearly as many calories as running...

Give Me Novicain

...Humanities; 2* 09/5/10 The song “Give Me Novocain” by the band Green Day reveals a sense of suffering, and the use of drugs to help ease pain. The chorus “Drain the pressure from the swelling / This sensation’s over whelming/ Give me a long kiss goodnight and everything will be alright/ Tell me Jimmy I won’t feel a thing/ So give me Novocain.” This bluntly shows that what ever point of view this is coming from that person is very clearly suffering and is using drugs as a way to escape from it. The beat of the drums and the guitar is slow at first, then changes to a more up beat tone, hinting at the drugs raging through a person’s system. The slower beat that the song returns to is the high. It’s the calm that a person feels when the are worry free. When I first heard this song I had no reason to believe it was about anything than what was being obviously sung about. But when I listened to the lyrics it revealed the suffering that we as humans go through and what some people will do to escape, even if only for a matter of hours. It made me think about all the times I wished I could escape from something as simple as my mother. I changed my way of dealing with things from then on. Instead of wishing I could just get away by any means possible, or punching walls, I would just think about everything I have that is worth staying for. Everything I did both in thought and in action changed slightly. I never thought about wanting to run away or get at my mom and instead of hitting...

Webern Analysis

...Webern uses six different row forms: P0, R0, P4, R4, P8 and R8. However, the twelve-tone matrix is set up so that every row form is repeated once as a different row form. For example, P0 is repeated as RI3, P4 is repeated as RI7 and P8 is repeated as RI11. P0, P4 and P8 are the three main row forms used because the rest are retrogrades of these main three. Each row form that is used (P0, R0, P4, R4, P8, R8) has identical pitch class layouts. Here is P0 as an example: TRICHORDS: (013) (015) (015) (013) (C# D B) (C Ab G) (Bb A F) (F# D# E) TETRACHORDS: (0123) (0123) (0123) [C# D B C] [Ab G Bb A] [F F# D# E] HEXACHORDS: (012367) (012367) {C# D B C Ab G} {Bb A F F# D# E} Everything involved with the pitch class sets is very symmetrical. The trichords create a palindrome, but so does every single interval in all of the row forms. Here is R4 as an example: Ab G Bb A C# D B C E D# F# F 1 3 1 4 1 3 1 4 1 3 1 The piece is written as a canon between four instruments. The viola imitates the first violin and the second violin imitates the cello. The first violin starts with a rest, six notes, rest, six notes, rest, four notes, rest, eight notes, rest and four notes. The viola imitates that exact pattern. The cello starts with a rest, three notes, rest, two notes, rest, two notes, rest, three...

Schoenberg

...“Discuss the circumstances that led to Arnold Schoenberg’s revolutionary break with tonality. Address the musical context in which Schoenberg was working. Give an account of the break itself through relevant examples, and discuss some of the compositional problems Schoenberg encountered and his solutions to them.” Jordan Roche Perhaps the single most influential composer of the 20th century, Arnold Schoenberg was born into a modest, lower middle-class Jewish family in Vienna on September 13, 1874. Though his mother was a piano teacher, for the most part he taught himself music and only took counterpoint lessons with the composer Alexander von Zemlinsky. As a young adult, he made a living primarily by orchestrating operettas while composing his own works. During this early part of his career, his works were a fusion of the divergent styles of Brahms and Wagner, and he gained the support of both Richard Strauss and Gustav Mahler. Though Strauss would later denounce Schoenberg's music, Mahler took him under his wing and continued to support him. This essay will cover Schoenberg’s break from tonality from a musical perspective, the problems he faced with this new harmonic language, and his solutions to them. Schoenberg was in his mid-thirty’s when he made the break from tonality. This means there is a time period of about 15 years where he explored, thought about and expanded his relationship with tonality. As previously mentioned, Schoenberg was influenced by Gustav Mahler...

Project 1

...Marshall Law 11 March 2016 Project #1: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) Music in films before 1970 had a distinct purpose. In the film “To Kill a Mockingbird” the music highlights important material in the film. This music was utilized to enhance the emotion of the film. The musical score was under the direction of Elmer Bernstein, an outstanding musician responsible for many major film scores. This film was produced in 1962, just about the time where avant-garde music was well in effect. Elmer Bernstein implements these new techniques of dissonant harmonious, wide intervals and complex rhythms in his themes throughout the film. There are three points where he utilizes music in this film. He highlights characters, highlights transitions and highlights emotional scenes. Music is not played from beginning to end, as the music is accents key moments. There is no use of source music in this film, allowing all the music to be underscore. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) is based off of the popular novel with the same name. The film follows the endeavors of two children, Scout and Jem, as well as their father, Atticus. Circulating the time of the Great Depression, this film emphasizes racial inequality. As the film develops, the plot reveals an important case dealing with the allegations of an African American man raping a white women. Tom Robinson, the man accused, is found guilty by the jury, only to suicide by cop. The man responsible for the allegations attacks Scout and Jem...

Gold Standard

...According to the book, a gold standard is a diagnostic test that is assumed to be able to determine the true disease of the patient. The gold standard is said to have known validity and reliability, and is used as a benchmark in which other diagnostic tests (screening test) are compared to. In the study, hearing loss is observed in one hundred and seventeen patients with a history of hearing loss, undergoing pure tone audiometry (PTA) for the first time. The patients in the study were divided into two groups, one of which reported increased TV volume and the other reported no increase in volume. The screening test in the article is the diagnostic utility of using television volume as a marker for hearing loss. This screening test is compared to the gold standard for hearing loss which is known as a pure tone audiogram (PTA). Each patient’s PTA was used as a reference standard. The results of the experiment indicated that if the patient reported viewing television with an increased volume, then there was a 68 per cent chance of the patient have a hearing loss of 25 dB or more. Although the study concluded that self-reported television volume can be a useful screening tool in patients presenting with hearing impairment, it is not very specific and should not be used to replace the current gold standard to measure hearing loss. Increased television volume had a sensitivity of 81 per cent and a specificity of 52 per cent as a predictor of hearing loss. A hypothetical ideal gold standard...

Essay On Hop Frog

...Characterization of Hop Frog "Hop Frog," a short story by Edgar Allan Poe, takes place in the castle of a corpulent king who is very fond of practical jokes. Hop Frog, a jester, and his friend Trippetta are kidnapped and forced to be slaves for the king. The tyrant king oppresses Hop Frog, who is a crippled dwarf. When the king strikes Hop Frog's friend Trippetta with a goblet of wine, Hop Frog vows revenge on the king and his ministers (Poe 17), revealing his heroism and bravery. Thus, vengeance is justifiable when the victim, who in this case is the king, oppresses others for their disabilities, as shown through Hop Frog’s characterization. In the story, the king and the seven ministers treat Hop Frog far worse than Trippetta, fueling Hop-Frog’s contempt. Although both are dwarves, Trippetta is seen by the king and his ministers as graceful and exquisite. They do not feel this way towards Hop Frog, as they mentally and physically abuse him constantly. The ministers and the king force Hop Frog to drink alcohol because they find it amusing and know how it affects him (Poe 19). Hop Frog becomes ill and has a grievous reaction to alcohol. The king remarks, “‘You are Sulky, and want more wine. Here, drink this!’ and he poured out another goblet full and offered it to the cripple, who merely gazed at it, gasping for breath” (Poe 20). Trippetta sympathizes with Hop Frog and begs the king and his ministers to stop in order to save Hop Frog. In response to this, the king throws a goblet...

Charlie Chaplin

...In 1914, Making a Living was released, and with it, the world was introduced to Sir Spencer “Charlie” Chaplin. Born in 1889, Chaplin spent his early years preparing himself for the camera in dance troupes and stage comedy routines (Charlie Chaplin, 2005). Having been born into poverty, Chaplin’s rise to fame and riches was tremendously difficult, and in no small part due to Chaplin’s revolutionary approach to cinema and comedy specifically. Chaplin redefined the comedy genre by bringing intelligence and sophistication to what was otherwise a slap-stick dominated field (Charlie Chaplin, 2005). Chaplin achieved this through refining the conventions of filming, extensive character development, portraying gender roles realistically, bringing attention to real world modern issues, and extensive levels of trickery, both in sound and filming. Chaplin’s success is also due, in no small part, to his iconic character: The Tramp. Chaplin was an early adopter and he made his movies in a time when the idea of movies was still relatively new. Though there were other directors, the conventions of movies had yet to be defined and each director would bring what they thought was proper movie techniques to the screen. Chaplin understood the effects of certain camera techniques, and he used this knowledge to his advantage (Mast, G., & Kawin, B., 2011, 107-110). He would use the camera to trick the audience; they would be expecting one thing to happen, but another, more hilarious event would...
