Vinegar as Alternative Battery

...CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION a. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Vinegars had been used at home solely for cooking. Most people are not aware that it actually has other uses at home like lighting small LED bulbs. Thus, when the researchers came across this project on the internet, we grabbed the opportunity of proving whether or not this is a possibility. With the cheap and readily-available materials, this project can provide households with an alternative source of light that can easily be done and replicated. Although this may seem as a step back for advancements in technology because it makes use of household materials instead of more complicated ones, this is one step ahead towards innovation. b. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Can Vinegar be used as a battery for lighting small LED bulbs? c. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The researchers chose this investigatory project of vinegar being used as a battery for lighting LED lights for two of its possible contributions to the community: first, it can be used as a safe, better and cheaper alternative to sources of lights in case of blackouts, and second, people can use it as an alternative source of light at home to lower their power consumption. The Philippines is an archipelago surrounded by large bodies of water making it susceptible to typhoons. The last devastating typhoon, Yolanda, had left Leyte and other parts of the country in turmoil with no food, water, and electricity for not just days but for months, and...

To Mrs. Jennifer Emberador for sharing her ideas and for Giving this wonderful project that help us to develop our mind and for letting us to know that there are so many things To our parents Mr. and Mrs. Taloyo and Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez. For giving us enough money for our project. Above all GOD for giving us good ideas that we able to answer all the process about this project. For his caring, love, guidance, and also in protecting us for all the evil persons. Introduction Vinegar is a liquid produced from the fermentation of ethanol in a process that yields its key ingredient, acetic acid. The acetic acid concentration ranges typically from 4 to 8 percent by volume for table vinegar [1] (typically 5%) and higher concentrations for pickling (up to 18%). Natural vinegars also contain smaller amounts of tartaric acid, citric acid, and other acids. Vinegar is an important preservative and condiment and it is being produced since centuries. It is produced through the action of acetic acid bacteria on dilute solutions...

Vinegar as Alternative Battery

...Introduction A simple battery can be constructed with a cup, a copper strip, and a zinc strip. Attach wires to each strip and place them in the cup. Place the strips in the cup and add either Coca Cola or vinegar to the cup. If a voltage meter is placed across the leads, it will show between 0.75 and 1.0 volts. More voltage can be created by adding several of these cells in series. Vinegar is a liquid consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3COOH) and water. The acetic acid is produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. Vinegar is now mainly used as a cooking ingredient, but historically, as the most easily available mild acid, it had a great variety of industrial, medical, and domestic uses, some of which (such as a general household cleanser) are still promoted today. Commercial vinegar is produced either by fast or slow fermentation processes. In general, slow methods are used with traditional vinegars, and fermentation proceeds slowly over the course of months or a year. The longer fermentation period allows for the accumulation of a nontoxic slime composed of acetic acid bacteria. Fast methods add mother of vinegar to the source liquid before adding air using a venturi pump system or a turbine to promote oxygenation to obtain the fastest fermentation. In fast production processes, vinegar may be produced in a period ranging from 20 hours to three days. An electric battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells that convert stored...

...Types of Word Formation Processes Compounding Compounding forms a word out of two or more root morphemes. The words are called compounds or compound words. In Linguistics, compounds can be either native or borrowed. Native English roots are typically free morphemes, so that means native compounds are made out of independent words that can occur by themselves. Examples: mailman (composed of free root mail and free root man) mail carrier dog house fireplace fireplug  (a regional word for 'fire hydrant') fire hydrant dry run pick-up truck talking-to In Greek and Latin, in contrast to English, roots do not typically stand alone. So compounds are composed of bound roots. Compounds formed in English from borrowed Latin and Greek morphemes preserve this characteristic. Examples include photograph, iatrogenic, and many thousands of other classical words. Note that compounds are written in various ways in English: with a space between the elements; with a hyphen between the elements; or simply with the two roots run together with no separation. The way the word is written does not affect its status as a compound. Over time, the convention for writing compounds can change, usually in the direction from separate words (e.g. clock work), to hyphenated words (clock-work), to one word with no break (clockwork). If you read older literature you might see some compound words that are now written as one word appearing with unfamiliar spaces or hyphens between the components Another...

And most of all, we give our deepest gratitude to our God for He is the reason behind all these success. Chapter 1: INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study * We chose this project because it is simple yet very interesting. Based on our research, many had tried to do this activity. Some of them were successful while the others are not. Based on their opinions, they said that this project is simple but very helpful for the other people who suffers from brownouts. The thing that pushed us to choose this topic is because the Philippines is now suffering rotational brownouts due to the problems of the power plant. This vinegar battery can help the affected families have an alternative energy supply. B. Statement of the problem/Objectives * This investigatory project aims to: a. Use for alternative purposes especially when there’s no electricity. b. Help other people have alternative batteries. c. Santiago, Joseph Angelo S. I. Introduction A. Background of the Study Other appliances in our house may be battery operated. Some branded batteries are expensive but it is not long lasting. So as students and researchers, we are given a chance to conduct an experimentation on how to use vinegar as an alternative battery pack. This experiment is environmental friendly, and it is cheaper than branded ones. It does not contain any toxic that is hazardous to human’s health. The main objectives of this study are the following: 1.) To give enough power to the battery operated appliances 2.) To know that vinegar may be used as an effective power battery 3.) To give vinegar another use not just only for cooking B. Statement of the Problem This study aims to know the effects of Vinegar as a battery. This will further answer the following question: 1.) Will the Vinegar battery give enough power to the appliances? 2.) Is vinegar effective to be used as a power battery? 3.) Does vinegar have another use other than we use it in the kitchen? C. Significance of the Study The following person will gain benefit from this study: 1) Students – this study will help them to...

Vinegar Battery

...Home-made Vinegar Battery A b s t r a c t An electric battery is a device consisting of two or more electrochemical cells that convert stored chemical energy into electrical energy. Each cell has a positive terminal, or cathode, and a negative terminal, or anode. The terminal marked positive is at a higher electrical potential energy than is the terminal marked negative. The terminal marked positive is the source of electrons that when connected to an external circuit will flow and deliver energy to an external device. When a battery is connected to an external circuit, Electrolytes are able to move as ions within, allowing the chemical reactions to be completed at the separate terminals and so deliver energy to the external circuit. It is the movement of those ions within the battery which allows current to flow out of the battery to perform work. Although the term battery technically means a device with multiple cells, single cells are also popularly called batteries. There are many ways to construct a battery, as well as ways to control its generated output. Almost any liquid or moist object that has enough ions to be electrically conductive can serve as the electrolyte for a cell. This homemade battery is based on two different metals suspended in an acid solution. You’ll need two different kinds of metal, like copper and zinc nails and some acid liquid. The copper is the + and the nail is the -. The electrons travel from the – through the vinegar (acid) to the + and...
