Virtualization and Cloud Computing
As CTA of our growing manufacturing company, I believe there are considerable opportunities for savings by utilizing virtualization to consolidate server workloads. If we utilize virtualization, we could save up to 11,500,000 dollars in server costs after three years. The costs of our current servers are too high but, using virtualization, our company would benefit by reducing costs and the number of servers.
Virtualization is the abstraction of IT resources, such as servers, that masks the physical nature and boundaries of those resources from resource user. Abstraction enables better flexibility, which enables better efficiency. An example of this would be through consolidation. If our company were to consolidate server workloads, instead of having 1000 servers in our datacenter, we would have 10 physical servers in one virtual machine server. This would come to a total of 100 virtual machine servers, instead of the 1000 that we currently run on. Even though the costs of these higher end servers are greater, we would still greatly benefit. To a provider, virtualization creates the flexibility to deliver resources to meet service needs in very flexible, elastic, rapidly changing manner. Virtualization makes it easier for IT to deliver IT capabilities faster, to have a lower barrier to access IT capabilities, and to deliver exactly the right amount of resources needed. Virtual machines can be deployed roughly 30 times faster than physical servers, which have a tendency to double demand for servers. By utilizing virtualization, our company will save money and be overall more efficient.
Utilizing virtualization to consolidate server workloads will save our company 11,500,000 dollars after the next three years. If you were to figure out the current costs of our servers, there are 1000 servers at 8,000 dollars each. Plus, each severs costs about 2,000 dollars a year, so over a three year period the total costs would be about 14 million dollars. If we were to utilize virtualization, each virtual machine server can consolidate 10 physical servers. There would be 100 of these virtual machine servers that cost 16,000 dollars each. Plus, each would cost 3,000 dollars per year to run, which, after three years, would total costs at about 2.5 million dollars. This would be beneficial to our company because after the three-year period of switching, we would save 11.5 million dollars.

Information Systems

...Components and Infrastructures of Infornation Systems Ronald Minnieweather Walden University Components and Infrastructures of Information Systems Information systems are a collection of hardware and software that control the flow of data. Information systems are useful because they enable organizations to collect and process data faster, create reports in real time, and help improve decision making. Major components of information systems There are five major components that needs to be in place in order for information systems to operate properly. The first component is hardware which is basically the physical aspects of computer parts such as monitors, motherboards, keyboards, mouse, and speakers. Software is the second component, which is the instructions for computers (5 key components of an information system?, 2014). Another major component is data, which is a collection of facts and values. The fourth component is procedures which are strictly the guidelines that must be followed. The last major components of information systems are the people needed to monitor the systems (5 key components of an information system?, 2014). Relation between business architecture, IT architecture, and information system Business architecture is “graphical representation of a business model, showing the networks, through which authority, information, and work flows is a firm” (Business Architecture, 2014). IT architecture is the process of developing organized...

...ITDM IT WATCH ON VIRTUALIZATION SUBMITTED BY GROUP 9 CONTENTS 1. INTRODUCTION TO VIRTUALIZATION 2. TYPES OF VIRTUALIZATION 3. ADVANTAGES OF VIRTUALIZATION 4. VIRTUALIZATION IN INDIA 5. REFERENCES INTRODUCTION Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as an operating system, a server, a storage device or network resources. In layman's term, virtualization allows you to run an independent operating system within an existing operating system using the existing hardware resources. So if you want to learn another operating system like Linux, you can use virtualization to run Linux on top of the existing operating system. Virtualization is the abstraction of IT resources, separating their physical instance and boundaries from their function. Virtualization has brought important innovation to IT Virtualization concept was first developed by IBM in the 1960s to fully utilize mainframe hardware by logically partitioning them into virtual machines. These partitions will allow mainframe computers to perform multiple tasks and applications at the same time.. During the 1980s and 1990s, desktop computing and x86 servers become available and so the virtualization technology was discarded eventually. Client-server applications and the emergence of Windows and Linux made server computing significantly inexpensive...

Techniques of Load Balancing in Green Clouds

...Green Clouds Gaganjot Kaur* *M.Tech,IITT College of Engineering & Technology, Pojewal, Punjab Abstract — Cloud Computing can be defined as dynamically scalable shared resources that are completely accessed over a network and the users have to only pay for what they use and can share internally or with other customers as well. The majority of cloud computing infrastructure currently consists of reliable services delivered through data centers that are built on computer and storage virtualization technologies. The goal of a cloud-based architecture is to provide some form of elasticity, the ability to expand and contract capacity on-demand. The implication is that at some point additional instances of an application will be needed in order for the architecture to scale and meet demand. That means there needs to be some mechanism in place to balance requests between two or more instances of that application. The mechanism most likely to be successful in performing such a task is a load balancer. The aim of this paper is to discuss the existing techniques of load balancing and elaborate the main points of the techniques that are helpful in reduction of power consumption leading a step towards green clouds. Green Cloud is an Internet Data Center architecture which aims to reduce data center power consumption, and at the same time guarantee the performance from users’ perspective, leveraging live virtual machine migration technology. Present Value

...and Cloud Computing Level 3 Shapes the Cloud Any Cloud Computing application or service exhibits two characteristics. First it uses virtualization to decouple the end user from the actual service and second it employs a pay-as-you-go business model. Virtualization is the key technology, while pay-as-you-go provides the business flexibility. Virtualization let’s users take advantage of a service without the concern of owning or managing the actual physical resources used to provide the service. From a business perspective this allows IT departments to take advantage of a multitude of technologies to cost optimize the way they deliver services. Regardless of the type of virtualization employed, one simple fact remains, the user must still be connected to the service via a very ‘un-virtual’, real, physical connection. The connection is the ‘cloud’ of cloud computing. Level 3 builds these clouds. Application Performance Enables Network Performance The network is often taken for granted, but in the realm of Cloud Computing, the network has become part of the application. IT managers want to gain the benefits of moving to the cloud, but they must be assured that their customers, the users of the cloud, will have a consistent application experience. By working with Level 3 those IT managers can be assured that we will match their applications to the right type of cloud. We have no vested interest in driving one type of connection over any other. We have no cloud applications...

Green Cloud Computing

...GREEN CLOUD COMPUTING ABSTRACT: Cloud computing is a highly scalable and cost-effective infrastructure for running HPC, enterprise and Web applications. However, the growing demand of Cloud infrastructure has drastically increased the energy consumption of data centers, which has become a critical issue. High energy consumption not only translates to high operational cost, which reduces the profit margin of Cloud providers, but also leads to high carbon emissions which is not environmentally friendly. Hence, energy-efficient solutions are required to minimize the impact of Cloud computing on the environment. In order to design such solutions, deep analysis of Cloud is required with respect to their power efficiency. Thus, in this chapter, I discuss various elements of Clouds which contribute to the total energy consumption and how it is addressed in the literature. I also discuss the implication of these solutions for future research directions to enable green Cloud computing. The paper also explains the role of Cloud users in achieving this goal. Business Plan for Imaginary Business

...future of virtualization and cloud age session. Virtualization is a technology that can use single physical equipment as if lots of equipment. So virtualization is a core of cloud computing. Cloud computing stemmed from the meaning that connect to computer like a large cloud and use the part of that cloud as long as I (or you) want. And cloud means environment that can use freely. That is, cloud computing means the technology that provide virtualized IT resources like software, storage, sever, network and get a cost from the people who use those IT resources. In short, it is method that users connect to internet (cloud) and use a variety of service and pay for those services. For example, using a word processor through not install in own computer but just bring it from an internet when I (or you) need is a one of the examples of cloud computing. Also, Nate appstore games are similar to mentioned thing in terms of can use them through an internet without installation. So, we can think that cloud computing is an expanded and comprehensive concept of mentioned two examples. However, fundamentally, this concept has already been existing since approximately ten years ago as the notion of Net PC (Network PC). Nevertheless, we can think that cloud computing have an innovation in terms of can turn a cost of capital (of infra) into a cost of management (of infra) and can reduce a cost of use greatly. In other words, we can find the innovation of IT infra in the cloud computing. And that...
