Vitamins in Fruits & Vegetables

The benefits of consuming fresh produce are an increased vitamin intake, no negative effects of additives and weight control. The purpose of a balanced and healthy diet is to include a variety of vitamins and minerals. Most people know that macro-nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein and fat are necessary components of a diet. While that is true, vitamins are essential micro-nutrients, which are also important parts of a healthy diet and can have a large effect on health and well-being. Vitamins are involved in protecting the body from oxidative damage and gene expression, according to Carol N. Angstadt, Ph.D., of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Allegheny University of Health Sciences. Fresh vegetables and fruits include vitamins that are good for your health. They are important because they are contributors to the body’s daily function and are essential to its growth and repair. They are essential because the body does not produce vitamins naturally, and they must be obtained from foods. Most discoveries about the human need for essential vitamins were made as a direct result of their deficiency. As illustrated in the nutrition manual "Modern Nutrition in Health and Disease," the importance of vitamin C was discovered because 18th century sailors who suffered from scurvy at sea were cured when they received citrus juice as a remedy. Advantages of good vitamins intake is that vitamins helps the body function daily. D vitamins helps your bones remain strong, vitamin A helps you see at night, vitamin C helps your body heal if you get a cut and B vitamins helps your body make protein and energy.
