What I have learned this semester This semester I have learned that there is so much more to walking than just simply walking. Mentally while walking around now, whether I am walking around UTC’s campus or walking around the mall, I think more about the way I am walking. I always think of the way I hold my hands and the way I pick up my legs and roll my feet. I have also learned from walking for fitness class how to walk distances in a shorter time and I also feel as if I can walk longer distances with less energy.
When this class first started I felt so silly walking the way we were told to but now after I have walked that way so much I feel silly walking the way I did before. From this walking class I have learned that when I am walking I have learned that I always need to walk in a relaxed manner and try to walk tall and hold my head high. I am all the time constantly checking to make sure that my posture while walking is very good.
I also have learned this semester from walking for fitness class that walking is the easiest way to start getting more active. It is also such an easy solution that can help with weight management. I find it to be really helpful considering I am always dealing with such a busy schedule.
Another thing I have learned from this class is how walking helps reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. I find this knowledge so helpful because with such a busy schedule just finding the time this semester to take study breaks and to go walk for an hour or so really does help me. Walking also helps with reducing stress. I plan on continuing walking for at least an hour weekly just to help me to take a break from all of the stressfulness that comes along with being in college and studying engineering, juggling a job, and trying to find enough time to eat and sleep as well as seeing my family and friends.

What I have changed/improved this semester This semester I feel as if my posture while walking has improved, although sometimes I can get lazy or not have as good of a posture while carrying around my really heavy back pack but as an overall improvement I can honestly say that I see a positive difference. I have also noticed an improvement in how fast I can walk when it is really cold outside.

This semester I have improved by making myself actually take the time to walk which helps me to spend time taking care of myself which normally, as mentioned before, it is very difficult being so busy and finding the time to get enough exercise and to eat healthy. That being said, that was actually one of my favorite things I enjoyed about walking class was how I knew that I was going to exercise just because my grades are so important to me so of course I had to show up to class and walk every week and also walk outside of class.

What I will do in the future In the future I plan on not forgetting what all I have learned this semester. I am hoping that I will remember everything I have learned this semester and I want to be able to further my knowledge by reading more walking articles and trying out the new techniques and ideas that I learn from the articles whenever I continue to do my weekly walks. I want to hopefully keep walking in my new and improved ways. I really hope that I will not get lazy with my new walking techniques. I have already told my family and close friends how they should be walking whenever we go walking together and I plan in the future to continue letting my friends know. In the future I am going to start trying to find more friends to start walking with me, mostly because I absolutely hate walking by myself and I find it to be good quality time spent with the people I love whenever they go walking with me. I have already made so many good memories with my friends this semester just spending time with them walking. I am so excited to continue making memories with my family and friends by making them go walk with me.
I am excited to push myself a little harder in the future when it comes to walking. I would like to see myself improve by walking longer distances in shorter times. I would also like to see an improvement in my future by even trying to start walking a few more days in the week instead of just two days a week.
In my future I plan on incorporating walking into my daily life even into not just the near future but in the long run of things. I plan on continuing my walks, also when I am married and with kids. I want to be able to be the mother who can handle being active with my children. I want to be able to go on walks at the park or at the greenway in town. I am so excited to see how much I can incorporate walking into my life in the future.

The plot focuses primarily on the dilemmas the group faces as they struggle to maintain their humanity during the day-to-day challenges of surviving in a hostile world. This includes battling the zombie hordes, coping with casualties, and dealing with predatory human survivors. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a sheriff's deputy[3] before the zombie outbreak. At every turn they are faced with the horror of the walking zombies, the changing dynamic of their group, and hostility from the scattered remains of a struggling human populace who are focused on their own survival now that society's structures have collapsed. Tightrope Walking Art

...skill, bewitched everybody who saw his walk. His imagination and passion is almost impossible for other people. Is it art? Yes, tightrope walk between the Twin Tower is very creative and significant art. To create art, of course, people need to take time to build their skill. It didn’t happen over a night. What do you think of Mr.Petit’s tightrope walking? His creative skill and imagination are amazing. Mr. Petit spent most of the time to build his skill. He failed several times, but he never gave up. He went back and forth from his country to New York to create his art. He devoted all his efforts into it for his whole life. He has a great passion, perseverance. We could see it. It is a lot more difficult to create his art than any other arts. His imagination is different from any others. He did something that might be a dream for others. His creation isn’t normal. He bet his life to create his art. It is a signification art. As an artist, his job is to immerse his viewers into a world that he has built. In the book, ‘let the great world spin’, by Colum McCann, he described that how people were gripped by the tightrope walking. “They found themselves in small groups together beside the traffic lights on the corner of Church and Dey; gather the awning of Sam’s barbershop. Doctors, Cleaners, Diamond merchants, Fish seller…” Those people have their own livelihoods, and usually cannot be the same group. Now, his art made people from different...

Mosuo Walking Marriages

...The Mosuo are a small ethnic group living in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces in China. Probably the most famous and most misunderstood aspect of Mosuo culture is their practice of walking marriages, also known as zouhun in Chinese. The coming of age ceremony, also known as the bonfire party, it’s the occasion when boys and girls at around 12-14 years of age get to know about each other. It is one of the most important events in a Mosuo child's life. Before this ceremony, Mosuo children will dress the same, and are restricted from certain aspects of Mosuo life. But once they come of age, girls are given their skirts, and men are given their pants (thus, it is called the “skirt ceremony” for girls, and the “pants ceremony” for boys). During the ceremony, boys and girls dance together, and decide whom you are interested in. For women to express love to men, double clicks in the men’s hand is okay. For men to show the good will for the particular woman, however, they are supposed to click three times and send out their knife, the symbol of their coming of age to the woman at the same time. After coming of age, Mosuo females can get their own private bedroom; and, once past puberty青春期, can begin to invite partners for walking marriages.  Traditionally, a Mosuo woman who is interested in a particular man will invite him to come and spend the night with her in the room. Such pairings are generally conducted secretly, so the man will walk to her house after dark, spend the night with...

Walking Dead Ideology

...ideological perspective The television has been around us for centuries and it has become a major source of information to society. Spreading information amongst the people means spreading a particular kind of ideas. These ideas or beliefs provide people with a way of understanding the world and they are referred to as ‘ideology’. It is believed that the media is used to set certain ideology in society. Consequently, television, as a part of the media, has its own role in putting through these ideas. In this essay I am going to explain what ideology is and how it affects society through television. I am also going to give an example of creating particular ideological perspective using the American horror drama television series The Walking Dead (AMC, 2010) developed by Frank Darabont. Ideology, as I already mentioned, is a particular set of ideas. However, we call ‘ideological’ only the ideas that relate to the distribution of social power. (Branston, G. and Stafford, R., 2010, p. 172) There are different ideologies, such as religious, political, etc. and each of them imposes its own way of seeing the world. Yet, ‘ideology’ was first defined by classical Marxism. Karl Marx claimed that our society is capitalist, i.e. it is divided into two major groups: the dominant class (the richer/ bourgeoisie) and the working class (the poorer/proletariat). The higher class are the people with power, the people who own enterprises, the employers. On the contrary, the lower class, are...

...Safety features that influence walking to specific places Features measured under the safety category that significantly influenced walking to specific places included speed limits and drivers exceeding them, streets parking, availability of crosswalks and pedestrian signs, TABLE 7- 13. Of frequent walkers, fewer observed than expected perceived posted speed limits being high. Conversely, of respondents who didn't walk to specific places, more observed than expected reported dissatisfaction with posted speed limits, which could explain why they didn't walk to specific places. The negative, almost moderately strong association implies high posted speed limits have a negative impact on likelihood of walking to specific places TABLE 7- 13....

Walking

...Walking keeps many important muscle groups working and they are the key muscles that we need to use every day. It can actually be considered a full body exercise. Although the locomotion comes from the work the legs are doing, the arms still have to swing, and the core still has to work to stabilize us while we are moving. It is a sport that requires cardiovascular and muscular endurance. As we walk forward, we move our thighs and hips backward. This movement engages the gluteus muscles in the butt and a number of key muscles in our hamstrings. The hamstrings are a group of 3 posterior muscles working to flex the knee and extend the thigh. They all rise from the ishium, posterior to the hipbone and insert on the bone of the lower legs. These muscles include the semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and biceps femoris. The walking forward motion also engages one other small muscle located at the top of our inner thigh, which is the adductor magnus. It is the largest and strongest of the adductor group. The second motion involved in walking is the action of moving our legs forward. This action engages all the major muscles in our thigh, including our quadriceps. These muscles are located in the front of our thighs, and this is also where another major muscle is engaged, our sartorius. This is the longest muscle in our body, and it stretches down from the top of our thigh, curving inside our thigh, ending at the inside part of the knee. The point where our hips and thighs meet will...

If we all know that education is one of the main factors to help better our society, why is it when we need to make cuts to help keep Texas running. This decision doesn’t make sense to the common person so why is it congress to agree so easily on these cuts. Texas is currently looking at a 27 billion short fall for the next two years, which means a 9.6 billion cut to public schools and 375,000 loosed jobs. Dead Man Walking (Senior Year Essay-Catholic School Report)

...December 17, 2010 What scene or image from the film stood out to you? Why? The film Dead Man Walking is a very powerful motion picture, one that captures the most natural and deep aspects of the human spirit. Throughout this film there are many powerful scenes. What is most powerful about this film is its ability to evoke thoughts of love and sympathy, for both innocent people and savage killers. Sister Helen exemplifies what it means to be a caring individual throughout this film, and Matthew Poncelet shows why even humans who have done the gravest wrongs are still capable of change, and deserve their dignity. Of all the scenes in Dead Man Walking, the most powerful is the resolution to the film’s conflict, the execution. When preparing for his death in his jail cell, Matthew Poncelet confesses to Sister Helen that he in fact was guilty of rape and murder. The closing scene begins when he is being led by guards into the execution room. Matthew asks for permission for Sister Helen to touch him, and it is granted so. Sister walks with him, reading to him from the Bible. He tells Sister that he is not afraid, and that he knows he is going to be in a better place. Sister tells him that the truth has set him free. At this point, the emotional power this scene carries begin. A man, though about to die, has found comfort in what a nun has preached to him. He has taken faith on the way to his death. Tightrope Walking

...It is not a strange realization to see that walking foot over foot on a tightrope takes balance in any scenario. The ability to walk on a tightrope however does revolve physics and its properties. Angular rotation, (w=L/I), angular momentum, (L=IW), and moment of inertia,(I=mr^2), are three major physical categories and characteristics that play a part in a tightrope walker’s ability to stay on the rope and not fall to his potential demise. But how does a tightrope walker increase his chances of staying on the rope? Often times one can see a tightrope walker carrying a large pole, a pole with heavy weights on the end, bending his knees, or extending their hands outward. All of these actions help to increase the ropewalker’s chances of success. Picture the rope as the axis. When a tightrope walker embarks on his journey, he must stay constantly positioned over that axis to maintain balance. Carrying a pole horizontally helps to distribute the ropewalker’s mass laterally in a direction away from the axis, or rope. Having a pole in hand helps to increase stability because the ends of the pole are constantly being acted upon by a variety of forces that are trying to change their position in the air with every step. The heavier the pole the more force will be needed to alter the poles position and begin rotation around the rope. Heavy weights can sometimes be placed on the end of the pole increasing stability. More force will be needed to move the heavier pole. The weights essentially...

Walking the Dog

...Analysis of “Walking the dog” by Bernard Mac Laverty Often society can be a weird entity. It can abuse its power, and make its citizens scapegoats. Often people tend to be naïve and believe in what society tells them, but what happens when society is no longer governed by people with justice and sympathy? In Bernard Mac Laverty’s “Walking the dog” (1994), Mac Laverty is capable of lighten this problem. In the story, Mac Laverty is trying to show that when citizens do not respond to society’s challenges, they become dogs on a leash for a minor group of people who abuse their power to stand their ground. The story lightens the way people should stand their ground and become independent of society’s leash. The short story starts in medias res, as the main character, John Shields, leaves his house to walk his dog, on a normal evening just at the beginning of the nine O’clock news. To add is the environment described very naturally with no subjective opinions or inputs. The language is very informal, and there is used slang, such as “C’mere” and “Aye, mebby” which indicates that they are living in Northern Ireland. In addition, the language is neutral and does not have any indirect opinion to the story, consequently no positive or negative loaded words, which makes the language simple. The story is told by a third person narrator, which has a limited point of view. The narrator is neutral in the way that it has no opinion towards the...
